I Love You Iweddingband.com

September 15th, 2009 @ 12:21 pm by Mrs. D'orsay

So… I know. I said I was back… and then I was gone again. The truth is, while you’re waiting for your pro pics, it’s hard to feel like you have anything to say! I just started a new job, and I admit that I’ve lost some serious blog time. Miss Cowboy Boot’s recent post about Mr. CB’s ring reminded me that I needed to fill you all in on Mr. D’s ring saga. Yes. Saga.

So, here is a tip: purchase your wedding bands in advance. That means ALL of them. We kept holding off on Mr. D’s wedding band in the hopes I’d be hired with a paycheck in hand to purchase his ring. I really just did not want to put the charge on my credit card, but in holding off, the window of time for a ring to arrive on time was getting smaller and smaller.

I tweeted to see if anyone had any advice on where to buy Mr. D’s ring, since he was only searching for a simple white gold, 4mm band. Mrs. Tiramisu recommended I check out IWeddingband.com, which oddly enough, has very similar font to Weddingbee! It was a sign!

Mr. D was skeptical, but I swore that it was fine. MRS. TIRAMISU SAID IT WAS, and clearly, he needed to trust my (now real life) internet friend. The ring sizes made a difference in price, and since I couldn’t remember if he was a 7 or an 8, and he couldn’t remember if he was an 8 or a 9, we assumed he was an 8. Another tip: write your ring sizes down. Then, because we’re cheap and we were both pretty much unemployed and the price break happened right at 7.75 and 8…

(Do you see where this is going?)

We ordered the 7.75. It quickly arrived and we quickly realized that it was way too small.

That’s what we get for trying to cut corners. So, we returned it and ordered the 8. Timeline update? We were less than 2.5 weeks away from the wedding. The size 8 ring arrived, and oh gosh, wouldn’t you know it? It was too small. We’re now at less than two weeks away from the wedding. So, Mr. D and I scurried over to the mall to pretend we were interested in purchasing a wedding band for him because we were too embarrassed to tell a salesperson that we just need his finger measured. HIS FINGER IS A 9. No wonder that 7.75 didn’t fit.

So, I headed off to a job interview (for my shiny new job) and Mr. D said he’d send it off with rush delivery (because they warn you that exchanges can take while). And I rest easy on the Metro knowing all is hopefully well. Because at that point we were really close to the wedding—less than a full week before the wedding—and I was losing it. I got back home to find out that Mr. D did not send it off with rush delivery, because the last one came pretty quickly and he was sure “everything would be fine”. He said for the cost of the rush shipping, he could get a wedding ring stand-in at Target. Sigh.

We sent the ring off on a Thursday. Monday, no ring, Tuesday, no ring, Wednesday, no ring, Thursday OMIGOSH COULD IT REALLY BE?!?! A ring that fits. I can only assume that iweddingband.com took pity on us due to a combination of desperation in my voice and the wedding date (that Friday) that we engraved on the ring. Their customer service was some of the best I’ve ever experienced, and Mr. D loves his new ring. And I love iweddingband.com for sending us the (THIRD) ring so quickly and saving us a huge fight about the virtues of express shipping.

Unfortunately, this also means that “Mr. D was right”, and he’s not letting me live it down. ;)

Did you experience any “life saving” vendors in your planning experience? And please tell me you didn’t wait ’til the month of to order your rings.

Speaking of wedding rings…
My husband and I got married in a civil ceremony in 2008, and on our first anniversary this year we had a huge wedding. So, we had been wearing our wedding bands before the wedding. The Sunday before the wedding, my husband shattered his TUNGSTEN wedding band. Into three pieces. So our jeweler said they could rush us a replacement one, but it did not get here in time because the wedding was in my hometown, not where we currently live and we had to leave town on Thursday for the Saturday wedding. Our jewelers gave us a loaner to act as a stand in during the ceremony. And I LOST it the day before the wedding. Needless to say, we didn’t figure it out until 2 hours before the ceremony and were running around like freaks trying to find the loaner ring. In the end, we borrowed a ring from a family friend, but it was too small and I tried to jam it on my husband’s finger during the church ceremony which caused him to make a funny noise. And then I cracked up laughing. The following Monday we finally figured out what happened to the loaner ring; I had left it at Michael’s during a last minute craft stop.

I’m very glad that your wedding band saga worked out in the end (and before the wedding). And now you know how much worse it could have been!

Oh my goodness! Thankfully it arrived ontime! :-)
A good rule of thumb (no pun intended) is that your shoe size is, more times than not, your ring size. :-)

PHEW! So glad you got his ring in time! That totally sounds like something Mr Frenchie would do too, by the way - not sending the ring rush!

Glad it all worked out. Although we ordered our rings WAY in advance, the jewelrs BROKE my engagement ring a week before the wedding. They gave me a more expensive “stand in” and had to overnight ship it to our hotel. It was nerve-racking.

First off, maybe you’ve already said somewhere - but great news on the job!!! Woo Hoo!
Also, Mr. might have been right on the ringsize, but at least you were right on the awesome vendor with great customer service. Glad it all worked out!

Wow, I’m glad you got it sorted, that would have been really stressful! We also waited until a few weeks before our wedding to order my husband’s ring. Luckily, we were able to get it very quickly and it was the right size.

YAY! So glad you had a good experience too. We took ours back to our jeweler who checked it out and gave us the thumbs up… saved about $700 on Mr. T’s platinum band that way!
