Invites, Take 2

September 15th, 2009 @ 8:29 am by Mrs. Bunny

I really liked the way our invitations turned out, but if I could do it over again (and had a load of cash to spend on postage, or only 30 guests), I would swipe this idea.

Photographer Jessica Claire (known in the photography world for the invention of the Shootsac) DIYed these beauties for her own wedding.

I almost drooled on my keyboard when I saw them. No lie.

OK, she didn’t letterpress them herself, but hand picking and hollowing out each book? Gawd, I wish I would have had the emotional strength to tackle such a project during my wedding planning!

And imagine receiving one of those invites after being primed for excellence by one of these sexay-as-hell Save the Dates.

I want to rub them on my face! MMMM … paper paper paper. Nom nom nom!

If you had unlimited time, patience or money, how would your invitations be different?

Those are very pretty - but I agree, it would have to be a small guest list, and I could just imagine someone like my grandma getting it in the mail and wondering why in the world I sent her an old book? =)

Oh my goodness — that’s an intense invite. But oh so beautiful, especially since I’m a sucker for books!

I agree! As soon as I saw these, I wished that I had thought of it, had the resources, and had the ambition. Beautifully executed! The thing I think that would be the hardest is collecting the right books and then being able to carve into them. It’s almost sacrilegious!

Wow…definately cool! A lot of work, but well worth it, I’m sure!

oh my lord. yup, forget the almost part. I seriously just drooled on my laptop! She is one amazing woman. There is no way I had the emotional resolve to tackle these during wedding planning. Maybe if I had 5 years to plan?

I would never have the guts to destroy such gorgeous books, but my-oh-my! My heart BLEEDS for those! Yummy! I am planning something similar but way less luxe for my save the dates. I love the gift tag look, and to save a bit of money (since our std’s need to go out in December anyway) we’ll be slipping them in with the holiday greeting cards. Not the gorgeous paper confections I had in my dreams but the budget needs to get cut (and my to-do list as well!) so they got a major makeover!

I think they’re alright. I think some of the invites I’ve seen posted here are better. I DO like that the wax seal has a lock on it, since Jessica Claire’s “thing” is photographing locks. That also ties in with the key on the STD. But yeah….these aren’t for me.

These are gorgeous. I don’t think she DIYed them, though - she said in a subsequent blog post that designer Kari Dyas made them for her. :)

@Sophia: From what I understand, Kari did the letterpress, but Jessica and her friends and family hollowed out the books, added the ribbon and seal and pasted in the pocket. I might be wrong, though.

i don’t think I could ever take scissors or a knife to a book…even if it was thrift store or something. And as a guest I’d feel bad about what to do later with a hollowed out book. But the actual invites are very pretty. I bet she’ll have an awesome wedding after all the ones she has seen. Wonder who’s photographer hers…

Her photographer will be Jose Villa.

I like these invites for the fact that they are very unique, but to cut out that many vintage books is definitely not my thing…
