Then I followed my beau out here to LA and we're getting settled in. I've been making things since I can remember. I was raised by crafters. I love to sew, draw, paint, build, cook, bake (anything with a tangible end result is fair game). In that same spirit, I've been hosting since I was old enough to cook and set a fancy table. Paper Dot Garland

September 15th, 2009 @ 11:55 am by Mrs. Moonbeam

I’ve seen this on some blogs somewhere (I can’t remember where), but I loved the simplicity of this idea.

So… clearly I go to PaperSource too often. But those bags are certainly pretty enough to reuse.

Paper Dot Garland : wedding crafts Img 42401 I know everyone’s got great little paper punches, but all I had was an X-Acto. I cut out a bunch of different sized circles.

Paper Dot Garland : wedding crafts Img 42402 I sewed them together using a zig-zag stitch, pulling some thread between each one to make a longer garland. Paper ruins your needles, so keep paper needles and fabric needles separate.

Paper Dot Garland : wedding crafts Img 42403 String them up for a little festive addition to your decor. I think I’ll hang them around the favor table or something at our wedding.

What are some other creative uses for paper garlands?

I had NO idea that paper ruins needles…I’ve been sewing all kinds of wedding projects with paper and no problems yet…

Thanks for the tip!

@abrideagain…sewing paper will dull your needles which can cause problems especially if you are sewing finer fabrics (you risk causing damage to the fabric)

This is such a great idea though…never would have thought of it…did you use an industrial strength thread?

Those are adorable! Maybe I need to actually go into a Paper Source someday, instead of ordering all my paper online. I love cute shopping bags, and have a huge collection of them. But I never thought to reuse them like this!

@bluebutterfly: I just used regular thread.

And since so many didn’t know that paper ruins needles, it also ruins scissors. Fabric scissors are for fabric only. Paper just dulls everything faster.

This is really cute. I actually just emailed this idea to a friend to help decorate her baby daughter’s room. :)

I have a paper dot garland for our Christmas tree… I made it last year after seeing it in on Martha Stewart! Love it :)
