Paper Flowers Details

September 15th, 2009 @ 4:58 pm by Mrs. Moonbeam

A few days ago in my post about paper flower walls, I mentioned that I had adapted a tutorial to make larger sized flowers for my purposes. Here are my tips on the subject.

Paper Flowers Details : wedding tutorial Paper F

Take a letter sized sheet of cardstock, and slice off one end. Use an X-Acto to fringe the ends of the smaller sheet of paper and then roll it up and tape it to form the flower center. For the petals, fold the larger sheet of paper in half, turn a quarter turn, and fold in half again. It will be 4 layers. Cut the loose ends off in the shape of a semi-circle. Fold it in half again to make a wedge of 8 layers, cut out a bit of the center, and cut the petals into your desired shape. Open it up and cut out 1/8th of the circle, leaving a flap to attach to the other petals in a cone shape.

Paper Flowers Details : wedding tutorial Paper F01 Do a lot of taping at the back to put the center into the cone of petals. Wrap some wire around the center and curl the petals into a pleasing shape. Cut out and fold some leaves to add some texture to the wall.

Paper Flowers Details : wedding tutorial Paper F02 In the future, I’ll probably get some white tape for the back, though it doesn’t really matter, since the back of these won’t be on display.

Paper Flowers Details : wedding tutorial Paper F03 All done!

What do you think? How many of these do you think we’ll need to make to cover an entire wall?

Oh WOW… I’m really not sure how many you’ll need. Definitely a LOT… but i’d say it would be so worth-it! I can see it being so unique and elegant at the same time!

Wow… thats an incredible amount of work. A whole wall of flowers will have such an incredible impact- I can’t wait to see photos. I would think you’d need over 500 to cover a wall. Thanks for the tutorial… I want to make some of these for my mom’s b-day!

wow. that looks great! i don’t have the slightest idea of how many you’d need to cover a wall besides the very descriptive and helpful “a whole lot?”

My oh my, super cool and I love that you’ll have a texured wall. As for how many….I guess less if you have bigger flowers, not a very helpful answer but might be the direction to take with lots of DIY projects

I can’t really tell how big they actually are, but it seems like your inspiration photo shows pretty large flowers…. so you’ll need a lot, but not too many ;) I think this would make a wonderful faux-tobooth backdrop! Are you planning on making them all white or adding color?

They look really great! Do you have any idea how many you plan to make? I was thinking the same thing as Miss Beagle - Great faux photobooth backdrop material!

@Miss Beagle: Yes, it is the faux-to-booth backdrop. Great minds…
@pvaulter718: I’ve already cut out about a hundred, I’m sure there are many more to go. I’ll know better when I go down to Texas for my showers and start setting things up.
