About Mrs. Chick

Lisa Ling!

September 16th, 2009 @ 12:48 pm by Mrs. Chick

I’ve always admired Lisa Ling’s looks, personality, and career. With the recent affairs of her sister’s involvement with the North Korean government, I am even more in awe of her entire family. When my friend and fellow soon-to-be-bride friend Synthia sent me these pictures, I just had to share them! Talk about Asian chic!

I love that the shape of the dress is more of a Western traditional wedding gown, yet the material is unmistakably Asian influenced! I had wanted to wear a chipao during our wedding, but I haven’t pursued it because I haven’t been very inspired. Now these pictures are giving me ideas about how to modernize a chipao.

I still think I might go with a more traditional chipao, because I will already be wearing a western wedding gown, but perhaps I can hunt down a fabric similar to this! I think the metallic elements have a certain Gossip Girl effect, and y’all know how much I <3 Gossip Girl!

What are your thoughts on having a non-white wedding dress? Will you be wearing traditional garb from your culture during your wedding? If so, during which portion will you be wearing it?

Oh my gosh that is beautiful! I didn’t know she got married. I’ve always loved Lisa Ling and I’m so glad that her sister is safely home. I remember watching Lisa Ling in her early years one Channel One that was broadcast to my middle school and high school during home room class.

Lovely! I thought about doing a more traditional (Pakistani) outfit, but I ended up with an ivory, western style dress. Seeing these pictures makes me wish I’d gone for the color again. :)

Her dress is lovely! What a wonderful idea to have the western silhouette w/ the Asian influenced fabric :)

I love the non-white approach to wedding garb. I personally am wearing a coffee colored dress.

Wow! I love how she combined the western influenced shape of the dress with the “asian” fabric! We did a day-after shoot in my Quaker gown with my husband in a more quaker-inspred dress with modern architecture as our backdrop, and they are some of my favorite photos…

Saw her wedding on InStyle when I browsing a couple days ago and I LOVe that she included so many very traditional elements yet her wedding was super chic and modern. Sigh. I wish I had the money to bring in a dim sum chef!
But yes I will be wearing a QiPao (or chipao in Taiwanese!) for the tea ceremony. =)

Lisa Ling is a stunning woman! I think colored wedding dresses are beautiful. Mine is “ivory” (If you ask me its somewhere between white and ivory, but whatevs) with a rum colored sash. I’m too clumsy and accident prone to wear pure white, but this is the closest I’ll ever be to wearing a white dress so I did.
