Oh Lighting, You Make Me Happy

September 16th, 2009 @ 3:02 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

Let me share my latest lighting obsession: lanterns.

We won’t be getting married in a church, but I think these lanterns could hang from the white chairs our guests will sit in.

But, this might also be a good option for an outdoor wedding. I’m seriously torn. I love the lanterns, but I also still love the mason jars. Hmm…

Oh, and I saw these at Anthropologie as I was getting ready to leave the store. Bridesmaid K was with me, and she glanced at my face as I saw them and immediately said, “uh oh.” She knew I was in love.

Which would you choose for decor? Lanterns or mason jars? Why?

Mason jars would have fit perfectly with our cocktail hour location — but we opted not to add any one our own decor (one of the really smart decisions we made in our planning — more details on why to come!).

Lanterns. More fire safe!!!

BOTH! It would be a cool mixture between the refined lantern and the more rustic jar, plus you’d probably save some money because you won’t have to buy a TON of lanterns.

Tough call…I think I like the lanterns better, but they’re probably going to be much more expensive. I do like the mason jars, but it totally depends on the feel you want your wedding to have. To me they’re a little more rustic and country, but not in a bad way!!

Ikea has a good selection of lanterns (and they come with a good price tag too!).

I heart lanterns too! I stalked every Pottery Barn and Z Gallerie during their sales for lanterns- but ended up using mason jars instead- cheaper :) Good luck on your hunt!

I prefer lanterns, like espresso, but went with Mason jars. IKEA has some really cute lanterns for $5 each if you can swing it! I just never got around to it.

Lighting for our reception site (indoor banquet room with windows surrounding more than half of the space) has me a little freaked out. What to do, what to do…

But for an outdoor wedding…I think the lanters are beautiful! Mason jars are great too! I vote lanterns!

Lanterns! I’ve thought about them! I saw a pack of 3 (exactly like the first picture, white) at TJ Maxx for $9.99! There are lots of treasures in those kinds of stores!

I think I’m loving the lanterns the best. I too have a recent need for lighting on some indoor steps but think we’re going the luminairy route but now you’re encouraging me to think of other options, Hmmmmmmmmm….

We did mason jars and added pail candles to the hooks later. Those laterns are adorable.

I would go with lanterns - just because they seemed more safe!
