Mrs. Lamb, Norfolk Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student Engagement Date: January 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
About Mrs. Lamb

Bring on the Color! Or Not.

September 17th, 2009 @ 11:33 am by Mrs. Lamb

When I first started reading Weddingbee, I saw a post about palettes. I had been trying to convince myself that a certain palette was the way to go and was about to take an outing to Home Depot to bring some paint chips together. But COLOURlovers saved me the trip. COLOURlovers’ website allows you to customize palettes and patterns. Even if you’re done planning a wedding, it’s great for decorating and for fashion.

I found it a bit difficult to navigate at first. You have to have the most recent version of Internet Explorer (available here) and you have to register in order to save your palette. After the initial set up, the fun began. The palettes and patterns that other users have created are all visible - which is great for inspiration. Check out these lovelies!

See what I mean? Nice for your wedding, nice for a pillow on your couch. It’s a good tool for life.

This is the palette I created for our wedding. I know! It’s super boring, but very vintage chic and neutral.

I think that this palette will work in almost any space, but will work especially well with my vintage idea. Narrowing the color palette is so important, otherwise I would just run myself silly with different color combos. As if I’m not silly enough!

I still wasn’t 100% convinced that neutrals were my calling. However, in the same Weddingbee post that introduced me to COLOURlovers, I found Polyvore. I found the same little annoyances about setting up the account, but once I was registered, I was hooked! The site basically functions like PowerPoint or Photoshop where you can layer images, change the sizes, add text, add backgrounds, etc.

I found a few cons with the program:

  • You are kind of limited to the products they had in the system (maybe if I played around with it more, I could figure out how to load other photos?).
  • Some of the images are not very good, so they looked fuzzy or messy
  • The search options are limited
  • The color search doesn’t really produce items of that color, but more items with that color somewhere on them…

Overall, it was a lot of fun and mixed up my usual routine of throwing pictures into PowerPoint. Also, it really made my palette come alive to me! I’m definitely convinced neutral chic is the way to go!

Love how your palette looks on the Polyvore board! COLOURlovers and Polyvore were two of the tools I was using right when I was a newbee, too!

Lol after changing our minds about a dozen times!!!

We ultimately knew we had to have green since we had already purchased Moh’s dress…and we really adored a pink tie we bought the Mr. I know EVERYONE has done pink and green but no one at our wedding will know that!

Plus we have an awesome reception site where we are actually picking totally different colors :) I’m not a stickler for having to keep the same theme or colors through the whole event.

Originally I wanted pastel pink, with an antique gold, but my FI refused to have anything to do with pink, so I changed it to red. Then I was online and found a gorgeous burgundy and gold dress that had BM dress potential. So that’s the final color choice-burgundy and gold. = )

I actually picked ours our by the colors of towels we have to wipe the dog’s feet when it’s raining-one’s fuschia-ish, one’s light yellow :) haha

I love your board AND your color scheme! FI and I are very neutral people - our house is so boring color-wise. We’re doing black & white with a pop of green-apple green to liven things up. I’m definitely going to check out these two sites later!

the boy guided the color decision with green [he assumed i would use my favorite color. uh, why didn't i think of that?!] and then i had some ideas but got confirmation when i saw a table setting with green and blue at ikea of all places.

That’s a cool site, I will definitely have to check it out! Our colors were inspired by the sky and sun, so therefore blue and yellow, which I’m hoping we’ll have an abundance of at our outdoor, June wedding!

Aww thanks guys! Some people tried to convince that I should do an accent color, or definitely choose between white and ivory, but I stuck my ground :)

I did a lot of the same things you did! I found Polyvore when I started blogging and wow, I was so excited for my vision to come to life. There is an option to put a clipping option on your internet browser - mine says “Clip to Polyvore”
So if you see something online that you’d like to add, use that tool on your browser and clip your photo. Sometimes the clipping doesn’t work, but it’s great for sites with small photos and white backgrounds.
My polyvore creation is here: http://nolanandcamille.blogspot.com/2009/05/semi-complete-wedding-look.html

I created it in May and my wedding is in a week. I really think this helped confirm my questions about if I made the right decisions about color and if all of the items I love will blend nicely.

Miss Lamb - I think gray can be considered your accent color! I have been loving all gray in recent weddings! It will be so fun to see the end result!
