About Mrs. French Bulldog

My Favies

September 17th, 2009 @ 5:12 pm by Mrs. French Bulldog

Mr Frenchie and I are settling into our new apartments and finding a home for all our stuff - old crap and shiny new presents. In an effort to spend less money (and because we think it’s pretty darn fun) we’ve been cooking at home most nights.

Our first night cooking was pretty interesting, we tried to make tomato soup (to have with paninis) and realized we didn’t have a can opener. The next morning, we attempted to make pancakes, and realized we didn’t have a spatula. Thankfully, last Friday we were able to open up the remainder of our wedding presents at Mama and Papa Frenchie’s house. Here are a couple of my favorite wedding presents, in case you’re in need of more things to add to your registry.

1 - Utensil Set - This 10 Piece Utensil Set by OXO has been a lifesaver! Can opener? CHECK! Spatula? Would you like solid or perforated? Because we have both!

Source

This set comes with a crock (to hold everything), 2 spoons (perforated & solid), fancy nylon-headed tongs, 2 spatulas (perforated & solid), can opener, whisk, swivel peeler and a flexible spatula.

2 - Pyrex Set - Mama Frenchie has more Tupperware than you can shake a stick at (well you could actually shake a stick at it, but you would have to back up A LOT to get the whole kitchen in your shaking area) because she attended many a Tupperware party in her day. I don’t think they have Tupperware parties anymore, or if they do, I haven’t been invited to one, and there has been some debate on microwaving food in plastic containers. Our solution was this Pyrex Clear Glass 17-pc. Bake and Store Set from Target.

Source

We’ve already started storing leftovers in these containers. Plus, it came with a measuring cup, something we realized we needed while trying to measure ingredients making tomato sauce on Sunday night.

3 - Towel Hook - I don’t know what man designed the bathroom in our apartment, but they put the light switch right below our only towel bar. Thus, making it impossible to find the light switch if you, oh, I don’t know… want to hang up your towels. Before we opened this Cero Spa Over-the-Door Hook Rack from Target, I had to give our guests a lesson in where to find the switch before they used the bathroom.

Source

Now, the light switch is super easy to find (it glows) and my towel is closer to the shower. SCORE!

What was the most useful weding gift you recieved?

One of the best gifts I’ve received is a Borner Mandoline. This bad boy diced a bag of onions in less than 5 minutes. No more tears! It’s cut down on tons of prep time!

I have awhile to go for my shower but I have been obsessing over my registry the last 2 days. I can’t believe I will actually get some of this stuff!!

My most useful engagement present was plastic veggies I put the real veggies inside once they are cut. You can buy these at the grocery store for like $3 and I love them!

I read this right after I microwaved my dinner (leftovers from last nights crockpot dish) in a plastic container. :(

I love those OXO utensils. We have a set already, but need to register for another one because someone (i.e. me) accidentally set a few down on a hot stove eye! Mmm, burned plastics!

I think you mean “slotted,” not perforated :)

We loved our electric can opener - and we had been through about 5 crappy handheld ones before the wedding so it was definitely our favourite gift!

We haven’t gotten any gifts yet, but I just bought myself a brand new microwave. It has a top heating element so that I can “Grill” in the microwave. Unless someone buys us a KitchenAid mixer, that’ll be pretty tough to beat.

Hahah… our light switch is ALSO under the only towel rack. What makes its worse is the 1st switch is the fan, the 2nd is the light! We ended up putting a night lite in there to save our guests from peeing in the dark :)

We have that Pyrex set, too! I think my most useful wedding gift was my coffemaker with a timer! This way, I can have fresh coffee waiting for me when I wake up–the perfect way for me to start the day!

We have that same OXO utensil crock set! It’s lifesaver (espectially the tongs) and they work great with my Analon Bronze cookware. My favorite wedding gifts is the Fiesta dinnerware we registered for (I’m a HUGE Fiesta fan).

It definately makes a difference cooking and baking with the proper equipment :)

You two are so organized! We haven’t even gotten around to unpacking our present yet — they spent the weeks leading up to the wedding being shifted around the apartment to whatever was the most out of the way spot.

@karmina: Thank you but, OXO calls them perforated so I did too.

@Mrs. Bruschetta: Our apt was very bare and really needed the presents to fill it up. We have a lot of storage in our place, but not much area for lots of boxes :)

@Gator: It’s the WORST isn’t it! Good idea on the night light, we’d do that if they had also given us more than one outlet haha
