Mrs. Ramen's Picture
Mrs. Ramen, Phoenix Age and Occupation: 26, Optometry Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Industrial Designer Engagement Date: January 3, 2009 Wedding Date: December 19, 2009 Venue: Phoenix Art Museum About Me: I'm an SF-born, Seattle-raised girl, transplanted to Phoenix where I'll be getting married, and planning all the way from Orange County where I go to school (yes, it feels as crazy as it sounds). I loooooove Yogurtland, am slightly very obsessed with all things paper, am heavily addicted to wedding blogs, deeply desire a puppy, thoroughly enjoy cooking, cry when I watch (almost all) movies, thrive on solo car-karaoke, can't stop being sarcastic, am neurotic about taking pictures of almost everything I eat before I eat it, and aspire to travel the world. My super-talented fiance and I are attempting to DIY a majority of our massive (~350 guests) "clean & modern, yet romantic, but completely unexpected, with a teeny dash of vintage" wedding, stay within our not-so-massive budget, and somehow get a really luxe (but still fun!) look/feel at the same time. In music terms (since we're both really into music) think Coldplay meets Motown meets Kanye meets Sinatra.

Work It!

Work It! : wedding fitness P90x Po

Lately I’ve been finding myself SO caught up with wedding stuff, work (I work for a department office at my school), and school, that I never get around to working out. :(

Now, I’m not the kind of girl that will starve herself. For anything. Especially not a dress. My dress already fits me, but I’m also not the most naturally slim chick, either. I’ve always been athletic, and need to regularly exercise to stay toned (and sane).

So, instead of depriving myself of food, I’ve made a few lifestyle changes…

I’ve been trying to eat more fruits and veggies, learning to just say, “no!” to desserts and unnecessary sugar/fat (the exception would have to be Yogurtland. Ahhhh, tart yogurt, my love!), eating smaller portions, no snacking (except for fruit and yogurt), and walking-walking-walking whenever I can. I also try to hit up the gym whenever possible and bust through my standard ~ 3-4 miles on the elliptical in 30-35 minutes, and do a little bit of abs and arms/back. I NEVER work out my legs because I have the world’s largest calf muscles and I do NOT want them any bigger than they are. I kid you not, they are SOOO muscular that people always ask me if I played soccer or other such running-sports. And no, I didn’t. So I try to lengthen them with pilates.

A fun tangent (I swear this pertains to this subject): I used to run outside, until I was hit by a car last year. True story. Really. I was running ON THE SIDEWALK, and a woman making a left from the opposite direction hit me. I flew through the air and landed on my back. I smacked my head (I like to think this was why I bombed that one final that quarter…), scraped up my arm, and got a pathetic bruise on my leg. I’ve started to think that I’m indestructible, since I didn’t even break anything, and I’ve gotten worse bruises from walking into my bed. The good thing about this accident is aside from having a cool story to tell, it paid for my wedding dress. Anyways, for this reason, I am no longer allowed to run outside. Hmm… I guess my life is more exciting than I thought.

But, back to our usual programming:

I recently did a few P90X videos with my friend and her fiance. I’ve only done the yoga and cardio/kickboxing videos, and I loooooove them! I’m fiercely competitive, so working out with other people always motivates me to push myself harder (as long as we’re doing the same thing, like a video). Yeah, I’m not sure why I’m so crazy about beating other people at stuff like that… but at any rate, I can TOTALLY see a difference in my body just by doing that, and they do lots of warm up and stretching, so I was really barely sore after those videos. I just felt so good and healthier afterwards! So I might try to throw those in the mix to keep my muscles “confused”, and also, just for fun.

I’ve noticed lots of brides drop a TON of weight for the wedding, only to gain it all back on the honeymoon, and I didn’t want to do that. I decided that steady weight loss would be my goal, and I’d be shooting more for health/toning up than anything - something that would last beyond just the wedding day. I’m hoping that more brides will focus on their long-term health, rather than just the short-term benefits of crazy deprivation diets and workout regimes!

What lifestyle changes are you making to get fit? Have you tried P90x?? Have you ever been hit by a car running outside???

Wow, you’re like the 4th person I’ve known who’s gotten hit by a car! You’re so lucky that nothing was broken! Oh, and I love yogurt too. So yummy in my tummy.

Oh my gosh, I’m glad you’re okay! I watched what I was eating and worked out regularly pre-wedding, but the crazy schedule and stress sorta helped along my pre-wedding diet to ensure I was more slim and trim than I’ve ever been — now, I just want to try to maintain my new physique!

I’ve been doing the ab ripper P90X thing. Holy cow. I thought I was going to die the first time. Actually, I still think it everytime. And of course I like yogurt too. :)

I have been working with a new trainer for about a month. Unlike most brides to be - I’m trying to gain. Not so much to gain just to gain, but to be healthier. I’ve been underweight my whole life and I vow (no pun intended) that I am not getting married and having spaghetti arms.

I’ve added a lot of protein to my diet (not a big meat eater here) and I’ve packed snacks to munch on through out the day that are healthy.

Being skinny is not all it’s cracked up to be. :o)

I did p90x with my fiance!! it seriously kicks your ass…in a good way. I loved that there was something different every day; it’s hard to get bored with that program! And if anyone out there has tried p90’s ab ripper x….it’s only 16 minutes but AH-ma-zing!!
good luck with the workouts, miss ramen!

This is just what I needed today - because I was SERIOUSLY thinking of not going to the gym - I just don’t feel like it … and I splurged on the eating well today and did a candy bar … oops. I think I might have to try the p90x … I’ve heard tons of good things about them!

I was hit by a car once too! I should tell people I was working out but really I was walking to class and the car instead of stopping at a red light hit some black ice and pretty much slid into me. I walked away with a bruise from their bumper and that’s it. I thought these strange things only happen to me!!

i agree about the dropping a ton of weight just to gain it back. i’ve been trying to be vigilant about my caloric intake and doing yoga to prep for my big day. still 8 months away, though… a LOT can happen in 8 months!

What a crazy story!! I’m glad you’re okay. I haven’t tried p90x but a lot of my friends have and loved the results!!
But I’m like you, I’m going for slow, stead, permanent weight gain.

I’m training for a half marathon to get in shape for the wedding! And then I might do the bootcamp in the park with one of my bridesmaids in the spring :o)

I’ve never been hit by a car, but I have been hit by a bicycle. true story.

Before the wedding i did Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. It was perfect because I didnt need to drop a bunch of weight, but I did want to tone up. Then I got lazy and pudged back, so now my husband adn I are doing P90X. OUCH! In a fantastic way - ouch! :)

My fiance is ex-military, so he immediately loved the P90X…me, not so much. I liked some of the videos, but not all.

I’ve been the same way that you are. I want lifestyle changes, weight loss that stays gone (not just to fit into a wedding gown) and making better choices all around.

Love the story about being hit by a car - I was hit by a car while riding my bike…but I was crossing the road and didn’t see her. Oh well.

Mr. Sushi is a very active guy and has always been one to religiously work out. He just started P90X and LOVES it. It’s the first time I’ve ever really heard him huff and grunt during a work out. He’d probably marry it…but then he’d be a polygamist.
