Birds on the Table!

September 18th, 2009 @ 5:10 pm by Mrs. Apple Cider

When I was in North Carolina for my shower/brunch/bachelorette extravaganza, I had to take advantage of the craft stores. I have been on a hunt for birds to put on the tables. I got inspiration from these weddings where birds looked so adorable on the table.

(Photo by Jose Villa via Once Wed)

I got sooooo lucky when I walked into Michaels and they had their fall stuff on sale to make room for the holiday stuff (who knew…it is only September!). I found these ADORABLE birds. They had 2 sizes, and the little ones were only $1.50 and the big ones were $2. I decided to buy them all. I thought I could put 2 on each table. I am excited!

I have to decide if I want to keep them the colors that they are, or paint them another color. My mom and sister both thought I should keep them the brown tones they currently are, because they “go with the fall theme”, but I am tempted to spray paint them a flat color, like a gray, or antique white.

(this is my attempt to show what the birds would look like if they were painted)

As a reminder, here is our inspiration board for the whole wedding.

What do you think, should I leave the birds the way they are, or should I spray paint them?

I would leave them as they are because you’ll lose the detailing if you spray paint them. BUT…I don’t think they’ll look horrible if you do paint them. I would go with antique white…

I think they would match your color scheme better spray painted, but try to rub the paint off the detailing a little so it remains that lighter color? Then again, if you had to give up on the super adorable bird place cards, maybe you don’t have time to paint all the birds?! I think they will look great no matter what :)

I like the idea of painting them an antique while color. The color they are now is showing more orange than brown in the photos and it might clash with your gemstone color scheme. But congrats for finding such a great deal!

They are adorable! But I do agree with others in that it might be better with your color scheme to paint them in a more neutral color. I see them as a pewter color. What color are your linens going to be? That would play a factor in my decision.

I’ve seen those at Michael’s. I love them but they had run out when I went back for them. I’d leave them as is.

Spray ‘em. I don’t think the brown really goes with your colour scheme.

Whether you paint them or not, they’re great. But if you paint them, maybe tape over the detailing so that you still have that nice touch!

I say… paint! While you have alot of jewel, fall-like tones, you don’t really have alot of brown in your inspiration board, plus white birds are just so pretty. Either way, thought, they are so cute! i love this idea!

I like them both ways and I think you can’t make a bad choice. But one thing I thought of that might look good is painting them with white chalkboard paint, so that they look like the vintage chalk pieces people used to win at carnivals in the 1930s?

I don’t think that it will matter if you paint them or leave them as they are - they’re SO freakin’ cute!
