Where Does Your Wedding Dress Hang Out?

September 18th, 2009 @ 3:05 pm by Mrs. Star

This morning, Mr. Star and I were awakened by the doorman buzzing up to tell us that the post office was delivering a package we needed to sign for.

The package was pretty unassuming, except for the cute little note written in red that said, “do not bend”. :)

But when I opened it up, I was thrilled to find my latest completely-unneccessary-but-totally-adorable-anyways wedding purchase: the wedding dress hanger.

IMG_459

I have thought for a long time that I would not be participating in the special hangers for wedding dresses trend, but when reader ejs4y8 posted a thread on the board with these adorable little works of dress hanger art, I knew I had to have one.

Etsy seller lilafrances makes these hangers with a variety of sayings (or pretty much anything short enough to fit in there!) and I just think they’re so precious.

il_155x

This was the style of hanger that I originally fell in love with, but because of last name changing complications (which I will blog about at some point!), I decided to stick with our first names.

Are you doing anything special for the hanger for your wedding dress? Have you ever originally decided not to follow a wedding trend and then changed your mind?

Oh my gosh, I love this! And I’m SOOOO happy I didn’t see this before our wedding, since my poor credit card was already getting quite the workout. ;-)

OoOOoOoO please let me know how it holds up with your dress! My dress is so heavy that I wonder if the hanger is sturdy enough. But no matter, GREAT find!!

I bought one of these too, and while it is amazingly, incredibly cute there is no way in heck it is going to hold up my wedding gown for even a couple of hours, I think it would snap. Mine is a satin ball-gown-ish with built in lining, pretty heavy. If you have a lighter, smaller gown, it will work.

I also bought one of these! It is really cute. I am a little nervous it won’t hold my dress though.

I had one of those exact packages arrive in my mailbox a few weeks ago! I got three with the heart shape on them; one for me and one for each of my bridesmaids. They’re so cute! Love yours, too!

I bought one for the sole purpose of looking cute in pictures. Even though I have a lighter dress, I still don’t expect to hang it all morning with it - that’s what the store hanger’s built for! I intend to replace the ugly one w/ the cute one for the photographer, and then take it off the hanger and put my dress on. :)

I have one! And I love it and hubby loves it! It’s now hanging in our walk in closet (read teeny tiny spare bedroom turned into a closet) with my bracelets hanging off of it.

Miss Star! It looks really cute. I knew what it was going to be as soon as I saw your pic of the envelope, because I ordered one for myself, too. Love it.

So awesome! You could also get your new last name on there. Love it.

Unrelated, Star: you might want to blur out your personal info on the packing label. Better to be safe, etc.

Those of you who keep saying you don’t “expect it to last all morning” and will just use it for pictures (I was obviously going to do the same thing), please try it out first because I don’t think mine will hold my dress at ALL- not all morning, not for pictures, I mean not hold the dress on its own for even a minute. I’m afraid to try it! Does anyone else want to give it a go and let us know how it holds up??

It’s really cute, one of my favorite wedding purchases so far, but I think I’ll use it for my rehearsal dress instead.

@arobb81: I don’t have my dress yet (two more fittings to go!), but I’m relatively sure the hanger will hold my dress long enough to get a picture. I’ll keep you posted!

I am trying to decide what I want it to say, but I am definitely ordering one!
Oh, and she told me she recommends not doing any more than 14 characters (including spaces) on the hanger. Just a FYI to anyone considering it!

What a great idea - so cute! Hmm but I think my surname would’ve been a tad too long to fit onto the hanger if I had ordered one. But yours is super cute!

So i put on my dress on the same hanger and it won’t hold it up! The dress is too heavy! what to do! the wiring is bending out of shape already within a couple minutes of hanging the darn thing! of course i’m not going to hang it on there until the wedding but how will they even take pictures of the dress if it won’t even stay on for a few minutes!
