I Was So Excited, I Almost Died

September 19th, 2009 @ 4:05 pm by Mrs. Lamb

I say the title of this post a lot. I don’t think it’s ever been literally true. For the woman below, it almost was:

My hometown news brought me this story of a woman who excitedly accepted a proposal and then promptly fell into a gorge. You can’t make this stuff up.

I sent it to my mom to see if we knew the couple, and she emailed me back:

I saw footage of this on Fox News. I’m very glad that Jason proposed on the ski slopes and not beside the rapids. :)

Mom

I love her response for two reasons. 1. She saw it on Fox News, not our local station. She probably caught it right before the Sean Hannity show. 2. I think she might have thought the ski slopes were safer than the rapids, but I had the exact opposite thought: ‘Holy Moly! I could have fallen down the mountain and lived this woman’s story!’ Well, maybe not on the bunny slope. But still.

Anybody else have a dangerous or potentially dangerous proposal? Were you so excited you almost died???

Ohmigod. This is like that Sex and the City episode when they go to the party and the girl says “I”m so bored I could die!” and then falls out of the window. At least this girl survived!!

Oh wow, I’m so glad she was okay. There has been a lot of wedding-related tragedy in the news lately. :-/

That’s amazing. I’m glad she wasn’t hurt! hehe My fiance proposed to me at Shoshone Point at the Grand Canyon so our feet were dangling off the edge of a very large drop. And it was December so there was quite a bit of snow involved. Luckily, neither of us fell into the canyon.

@Meg: Or rather, I’m glad she wasn’t killed. At least…I don’t think she was… I didn’t watch the whole thing.

my mom lost her wedding ring while swimming in a gorge, they searched for it all day, and got 20 other people involved in the search but it was never found. My dad bought her a new ring last christmas (15 years later ha)

gorges are dangerous for brides!

I didn’t almost die, but I did punch my fiance in the face when I went to hug him after accepting his proposal.

While that sucks, what a great story to tell the grandkids. lol I guess all you can do after something like that is be thankful you survived and laugh at yourself!

Nothing this dangerous, but my husband proposed on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. After the proposal, he handed me the ring box and I took it out of the box. I had it in my hand, but not yet on my finger when he hugged me. All I could think was that I was going to drop the ring down the bluff into the Lake and we’d never get it back!

Holy…. what a bittersweet memory they’ll both have. She’s so lucky she survived.

Wow. I’m so glad she survived. This could’ve been a worse story… at least she has something to tell her grandchildren!

I was hoping someone would have a bungee jumping proposal story! Could you imagine? It’s definitely an important lesson on insuring the ring! :)
