Mrs. French Bulldog, Orange County Age and Occupation: 28, Administrative Assistant & Interior Design Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Purchasing Analyst Engagement Date: November 8, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2009 Venue: Bernardo Winery About Me: I've lived in Atlanta, Dallas and Laguna Niguel; although I've lived in Orange County, CA most my life, I'm a Southerner at heart. I love his "old soul" and how he laughs with his whole body, among many other things. We are planning our summer wedding at the winery near his hometown, just 45 minutes south of Orange County.
About Mrs. French Bulldog

Let’s see… where did I leave off?

The second day in Quebec City was interesting. We started off the day trying to find Starbucks coffee and/or breakfast. Mr Frenchie wanted nothing more than to find a Starbucks and, interestingly, go to a Canadian Mall. (My husband is a little weird.) At this point I still hadn’t quite grasped how badly Mr Frenchie wanted to see a Canadian mall, so I tried to avoid it. We ended up going to breakfast/lunch at St Hubert, or as we like to call it, Shaky Finger Chicken.

It reminded me of someone I know…

You know I love you CC! (Source)

St Hubert was probably the only unpleasant experience we encountered with the French speaking Canadians… that, and we disagreed on what is considered good iced tea. All I really have to say about the iced tea I encountered in Canada is, “BLECH!”I shake my finger back at that bird and say that was NOT iced tea. There was a little mix up on the sugar content of the iced tea they served; they said it had no sugar and I (and the bottle it came from) strongly disagreed. I will say, however, my sandwich wasn’t too bad.

After brunch(?) we drove down Grande-Allée, described as the “Champs Élysées” of Québec City.

The street was super cute and we had grand plans of walking back up the street later for dinner, but I got a blister from my new Coach tennies and we decided to dine closer (and cheaper) to our hotel.

Back inside our fortified city, I changed into my tennies (that would later give me a blister) and we walked around the streets near our hotel.

I could totally live here!

Frenchiemoon: Canada, Part 2 - Quebec City/Montreal : wedding honeymoon Quebec2

And shop here!

Frenchiemoon: Canada, Part 2 - Quebec City/Montreal : wedding honeymoon Quebec3

How cute is this place?!?

We walked all the way over to Fairmont Le Château Frontenac for a fancy drink.

Frenchiemoon: Canada, Part 2 - Quebec City/Montreal : wedding honeymoon Fairmos

On our way in, we past the CUTEST wool scarf and sheep shop. I’m kicking myself because I can’t find the shop owner’s card right now (I’ll have to think of another Christmas present for Mama Frenchie), but the name of the shop was Lambert & Co.

Frenchiemoon: Canada, Part 2 - Quebec City/Montreal : wedding honeymoon Sheeps

I’m totally wearing that outfit as I’m typing this!

The sheep figures were really soft and made with really curly sheep’s wool. She also made smaller sheep with yarn made from the same wool. (Dang it! Where is that card?) After our drink we ate our cheapest Canadian dinner at L’omelette and then went on a mission for cheesecake.

The next morning we drove to Montreal…

Frenchiemoon: Canada, Part 2 - Quebec City/Montreal : wedding honeymoon Drivin

Mr Frenchie printed the directions to our hotel, Auberge Du Vieux Port, from the computer in the hotel lobby. We didn’t realize until we were packing up our rental car and on our way that the directions he printed were in French. Luckily, it was very easy to figure out, so it was more funny than anything.

On our way to Montreal we stopped to get food at a Tim Horton’s. We’d seen there signs along the side of the road and thought, “Well, it can’t be any worst that PFC (KFC) or McDonalds, right?” (P.S. I haven’t eaten at a McDonalds in 8 years.)

Frenchiemoon: Canada, Part 2 - Quebec City/Montreal : wedding honeymoon Thorts

Lemme tell you, I heart Tim Horton’s! Where else can I get a sandwich (for me), a doughnut (for Mr F) and a coffee (for Mr F) in a combo? Nowhere I’ve been to in California.

We got to our amazing hotel around mid afternoon, settled into our hotel room, and updated my Twitter status… what?

Frenchiemoon: Canada, Part 2 - Quebec City/Montreal : wedding honeymoon Montr The hotel staff was extremely nice at this hotel! We were given a free jazz CD when we checked in and they left us Maple Chocolates as a “Congratulations” gift in our room! This was BY FAR my favorite hotel we stayed at on the entire trip, but I am easily swayed by free breakfast (actual breakfast), free wine & cheese, happy hour, and nice soaps. I’m a sucker for good smelling soaps.

Frenchiemoon: Canada, Part 2 - Quebec City/Montreal : wedding honeymoon Rainspa

Once we were settled in (and the Twittersphere knew what I was up to) we went to our free wine and cheese happy hour and found dinner down the street. Mr Frenchie was very excited to find a place with a drink and lasagna deal (lasagna is his favorite).

Frenchiemoon: Canada, Part 2 - Quebec City/Montreal : wedding honeymoon Beer Up next: More Montreal!

My family is Canadian so I know Tim Hortons well - Timbits are my favorite! One of my aunts cannot start her day without coffee from Tim Hortons :) Glad you got a chance to stop by one! I second your love of hotels with good soaps, too.

I absolutely love Tim Hortons!! I discovered it last month on a trip to Niagara Falls, and it was love at first gulp. My favorites… iced coffee, iced cappuccino, and a yummy apple fritter. I crave it all the time now, and it’s almost worth the 6-7 hour drive to New York/Canada. Glad you were able to try it.

I love fluffy white bed linens, why do hotels even bother with anything else? Looks like a great time.

*lol* I’m loving reading your trip notes… too bad you weren’t warned about the differene in our iced tea (ours comes from the factory with sugar in it)! And glad to hear you enjoyed Timmie’s… I think it’s just started to move south in the past few years. Definitely a national icon of sorts and a must-have on any road trip!

I worked at a resort as a teen with a lot of American guests so we always had the option of sweetened or unsweetened iced tea. Most places don’t offer unsweetened here, it’s really not popular!

I think what we call “iced tea” up here in Canada is actually called “sweet tea” down in the U.S. I’ve run into the opposite problem with friends and family on trips down south: we ask for “iced tea” thinking it will be the sugary stuff we’re used to, and then we’re shocked when we get just plain cold brewed tea! :)

Yeah, Timmy’s is pretty much a religion up here! Sorry about our iced tea, I’m totally on the American side on this subject. Blech to Nestea, Yay to Timmy’s!

Thats soooo funny that you hate Canadian iced tea. I can’t stand American iced tea! Ours comes (I’ll admit… overly) sugared, yours tastes like cold tea bags. I could live without either, but I would choose Canadian iced tea over unsweetened.

It’s true… Tim’s is a religion here!!!

Beautiful pictures, Frenchie! And isn’t Tim Hortons like Canada’s version of Starbucks?

“On our way in, we **passed…”

Wow, that chateau is pretty amazing! It’s so weird to think that a quaint, European feel is so close to home. And people wonder why I’m desperate to vacation in Canada, despite having just lived in Michigan for five years. :)

I love it that you all love Tim Horton’s too!
@Mrs. Bruschetta: Maybe one of our Canadian readers can explain it better, but it’s not really a Starbucks b/c you can’t get all those different drinks.
@Serenity: YOU ARE MY NEW BEST FRIEND! THANK YOU!!!
