Mrs. Ramen's Picture
Mrs. Ramen, Phoenix Age and Occupation: 26, Optometry Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Industrial Designer Engagement Date: January 3, 2009 Wedding Date: December 19, 2009 Venue: Phoenix Art Museum About Me: I'm an SF-born, Seattle-raised girl, transplanted to Phoenix where I'll be getting married, and planning all the way from Orange County where I go to school (yes, it feels as crazy as it sounds). I loooooove Yogurtland, am slightly very obsessed with all things paper, am heavily addicted to wedding blogs, deeply desire a puppy, thoroughly enjoy cooking, cry when I watch (almost all) movies, thrive on solo car-karaoke, can't stop being sarcastic, am neurotic about taking pictures of almost everything I eat before I eat it, and aspire to travel the world. My super-talented fiance and I are attempting to DIY a majority of our massive (~350 guests) "clean & modern, yet romantic, but completely unexpected, with a teeny dash of vintage" wedding, stay within our not-so-massive budget, and somehow get a really luxe (but still fun!) look/feel at the same time. In music terms (since we're both really into music) think Coldplay meets Motown meets Kanye meets Sinatra.
About Mrs. Ramen

And the Bride Wore White

September 21st, 2009 @ 4:29 pm by Mrs. Ramen

Actually, in my case, I’ll be wearing ivory (which highlights my lovely golden-yellow skin tone, as one bridal assistant informed me). I received permission from Mr. Ramen to post pictures of my dress under one condition: that I am not in them. So, here is my dress! I love her so so so so verrrrrrrrry much. At this point, the alterations I need are very minimal - I ordered the length custom-cut, since it was cheaper to do that then pay for alterations, since my dress is LACE. This is another reason why I chose ivory - I think that lace just looks richer and antiqued in that more yellow shade. And let’s be honest: I looked really bad in the white dresses.

Here’s a close-up of the lace detail.

I like how the Alencon is on a mesh background. I’m a leeeeeeeetle bit paranoid about snagging it on something like… my hands, or my ring, but it’s terribly beautiful. And there are the teeniest little dots in some spots. Sighhhhhh. Love.

A little bit further out - this is part of the bodice of my gown. Mmm, so luxurious!

The train! One of my favorite parts of this gown is the lace edging at the neckline (she’s strapless) and around the hem. I’m drooling. That lace is so scrum-diddly-umptious!

I’m not gonna lie, though. I had some serious moments of doubt after I ordered it. I wondered if it was wise of me to spend so much money, and if I really liked the style. I regretted not getting a huge ol’ ball gown, I regretted going for lace, and I was worried I would look too fat, or my butt would look too small (what can I say, I have the cursed Asian barely-there-almost-flat-booty), or if it was too sexy and inappropriate. Would my FMIL think I was being inappropriate?!?!?

But all of my fears were laid to rest when I went to pick up my gown just a couple of weeks ago. Once the girl unzipped the bag and hung her up for me to inspect, I was a giddy goner (what is up with me getting all giddy these days?!? I’m going to have to turn in my tough-girl card soon). I had no doubt left. I was sold. She is perfect. And when I put her on, and she zipped right up, and the manager gasped, “This almost never happens! It fits you perfectly!” (Yes, this includes the butt area!!! All of that running and those million lunges were paying off). I took it as a sign that I made the right decision.

And when I bent over and felt how TIGHT the dress was, I took that as a sign that I had better stay in shape or I would not be eating OR sitting on our wedding day. I’m pretty sure that Mr. Ramen will be QUITE impressed when he sees me. I’m really not-so-secretly hoping he cries when I walk down the aisle, hehehe.

When did you know that you had picked the right dress? For you married gals (I know you’re still lurking!), did your dress have the desired effect on your mister?

I wore an Alencon lace dress too, and I have to say, they are surprisingly robust. I was worried about tearing the netting as I am a huge klutz, but it survived the whole night, and lots of dancing, totally unscathed. Yours looks gorgeous!

“Golden yellow”? You can’t be serious. I thought YOU were saying this at first and couldn’t believe it. So yeah, Asian skin isn’t really yellow. (I was shocked to see that my favorite book as a child, The Five Chinese Brothers, had actually colored the faces of the brothers yellow. Granted the book is from the 30’s, but still.) Gorgeous gown. My runner-up was Monique Lhuillier’s Scarlet, but my best friend’s mother said it looked like old curtains. My favorite part of my dress was the Alencon lace overlay on the bodice–so beautiful & delicate. I still love the way a lace gown looks, but you really have to have the figure to pull it off-sounds like you do! Plus, I love ivory for wedding gowns. Can’t wait to see your wedding pics with you IN the dress!

Simply elegant and beautiful!! I just ordered my dress a few weeks ago and had a few doubts right after (mostly b/c I ordered a dress at the top of my budget). I can’t wait to see it..hoping for the moment you had when you first tried on your dress!!!
