DIY Programs - Another Labor of Love

September 21st, 2009 @ 6:40 pm by Mrs. Apple Cider

I designed our programs a few weeks ago. I knew I wanted to use the wood grain paper and incorporate many different images from the wedding theme (birds, branches, etc). I started designing and came up with a plan.

I would use the wood grain paper for the covers and cream paper for the pages (I still used a thick cardstock because I wanted it to have a hefty feel). I decided to make them 5X7 with 5 pages.

  1. Ceremony
  2. Wedding Party
  3. Music & Lyrics - Adele “Make You Feel My Love”
  4. Music & Lyrics - Ingrid Michaelson “Way I am”
  5. Thank You

It was really important to me to have the lyrics in the program. My amazing cousin is singing and I chose these songs for their lyrics. I thought it would be cool for the guests to really see what the words are.

Once the pages were printed, I cut them all out. Sadly, the corners had to be rounded by hand. Once they were all cut, I put them in order and punched holes in the top left corner. I wanted them to be able to fold open.

The pictures show an example with a twin knot holding them together. This was really easy to do. I also purchased brads to try out, but am definitely leaning towards the knot (get it? Tying the knot!).

This was a definite labor of love and took a really long time but I know it is worth it. I am already preparing myself to see these in the garbage (because lets be honest, who keeps programs forever?!?). Did you spend a lot of time on your programs? Was it worth the work?

Love these! I’m jealous of that woodgrain paper and how you’re incorporating it into so many elements :D

I’m not sure what we’re going to do for our programs yet. While it’ll be worth it to me, I’m sure only a few of my family members will really notice them. Everyone else will just use them to fan themselves, I’d bet : ) But… that’s going to be true for most of my wedding details, I think. Minus the fanning part.

Wow! I’m so impressed! Everything ties together so well. Were you able to print them on your home printer, or were they professionally done?

not spending a lot of time on mine! I’m debating whether or not I should print them on just normal white printer paper or go out and buy the ivory paper (everything in my wedding has been ivory).
To go with white paper would be way against my ideals, but at this point I just don’t care about these things anymore!

They are really wonderful! I’ve been thinking the same thing about our Save the Dates. I love them, and I hope people keep them on their fridge forever (and some people will, mainly my mom, LOL). :) Good work!

Love them! :)

We are having a small wedding, without a wedding party, so I am doing cootie catchers! Check out the site on Etsy!

I always like looking through programs while I am waiting for the ceremony, so I figured this would entertain the guests for a bit! :)

These are gorgeous! I love all your rustic and coordinating elements. I plan to DIY intricate programs as well… labors of love that will be worth it for me, but probably just another program to our guests :) Where did you get your paper? and can you just send it through an ink jet printer?

I made programs VERY similar to this with rounded edges and a brad closure. I received a TON of compliments on them and people were incredibly impressed that they were hand made. I think they were totally worth it. Yours are Gorgeous!

I LOVE your programs! The lovebirds and branches are my theme as well. You sure don’t have to, but it would be so much help if you had a template I could steal from you. These are just so beautiful and would work so well in my theme.

Thanks and GREAT WORK!

Really simple yet oh so gorgeous! I am at the point of putting our programs together and am stuck on how to design the content.

Would you be willing to share the detail of what you put on each page to help inspire me?

Did you design in MSWord or … ?

Please PM me with any more detail you’re willing to share. Thanks!

GET READY FOR LOTS OF ANSWERS!

@million: @Mrs. Emerald: @rhododendron: Everything was designed on Microsoft Word and printed on my home printer (but the thick cardstock did give me some trouble). The font for “the wedding” is Albemarle Swash. I found it free online.

Thanks for the LOVELY comments! So glad to share it with you all.

Those look really great - now, a program like that, I’d be keeping. For quite some time. And the knot looks too great and really “ties” it all together.
