About Mrs. Sunbeam

A Little Extra Fun With No Extra Time! : wedding diy favors Img 163 Even though it felt like time was going by in light speed, I threw in a last minute project to do something fun for the gals who are working hard to plan my bachelorette and for those coming into town early to be a part of it! You’ll notice all the photos are yellow from taking the pictures at night - it was the only spare time I could find.

*Bridesmaids and all attending the Sunbeam bachelorette, don’t read any further!*

I was inspired by this post on 100 Layer Cake, where a woman had made bachelorette survival kits in Chinese take-out boxes.

The kit included a candy necklace, lip balm, a prophylactic, Tic Tacs and Advil.

I borrowed a sewing machine from a friend, made a stop at a discount fabric store, returned with three yards of various red and white fabrics, and went to town. I made the bags really simply.

  1. Cut large rectangle
  2. Fold over top edge to form string hole
  3. Repeat #2 on bottom edge
  4. Wrong-side out, sew sides of fabric together
  5. Add string to the top and pull

I then decided to make cute pouches like the inspiration image had. I cut little triangles from each fabric, folded the fabric so the top and bottom edges slightly overlapped, and pinned the center to hold everything in place. I then sewed the sides together while the fabric was wrong-side out. I turned them right-side out, and there you have it! A tiny pouch for goodies!

Each bag was filled with chocolate covered coffee beans, candy peach rings, nuts (hehe), lip balm, a candy necklace, a prophylactic, and mints!

A few days later and the baggies were all done! I could not find the individually wrapped aspirin, but if I do spot some, I’ll add it to my nearly bursting bags. I know in usual circumstances someone probably makes these for the bride, but it was one of those things where I really wanted these gift bags, and it would not have been fair for me to either drop a massive hint, or just hope someone would make these and then maybe be sad if they didn’t! So to avoid all that silliness, I made them myself! I hope everyone enjoys them and sees the humor in the contents.

Are you making bachelorette bags for yourself or for a bride? What would your survival bags include?

Cute idea! I love how the bags turned out. I’d check out gas stations and convenience stores for the aspirin. They usually have some at the checkout.

Your girls are going to love these!

That’s a very sweet gesture, Sunbeam! Those individualy wrapped pain killers are always at gas stations. For a more cost effective option, you could make more little tiny bags and drop a couple in each. Or in a mini envelope.

They usually have the individually wrapped packs in bulk at Costco. I would guess they also have them at Sam’s, but I can’t say for sure.

One suggestion is to replace the aspirin with ibuprofen. Aspirin is not a good mix with alcohol (tylenol isn’t either).

The bags are super cute though!

I made bags for my bachelorette attendees. I put in shot glasses, parfait glasses (for mixed drinks), pixie sticks, ring pops, lip gloss, and 100 Grand bars. It turned out that one of the girls made bags as well, so we had double the ring pops. Basically, I chose my items by thinking of drinking in the hotel room and what we might want to snack on (candy of course).
