On the same busy day that I had my second hair trial, I got it together and visited a makeup artist in the city looking for guidance on how to put on my makeup for my wedding day. A bonus was trying out the full bridal look, since I kept my hair trial style intact all day! Signing up for a makeup lesson was not done because I know nothing about makeup (the how to put on mascara lesson make me LOL inside), but I rarely wear eyeshadow and didn’t know the secrets to that bridal glow, so I thought a lesson was money well spent. I came armed with my inspirations.

I was taken aback when the makeup artist I visited looked at my inspirations with sort of a scoff and told me the looks “to her” were completely different. I focused on the eyes with a glowy look and light lips - so that’s what I asked for.
We created a dewy base with MAC strobe cream applied to the entire face.

Followed by Laura Geller spackle applied to the eyes and face (there is a trio kit which also includes primer for the lips, which I purchased).

Then she applied MAC Face and Body foundation with a brush that stayed wet all evening. It grossed me out and rubbed off every time I touched my face. Needless to say, I crossed that off my list.

For the eyes, she applied my own eyeshadow to the lids and MAC Soba eyshadow in the crease of the eye, along with a darker brown which I later nixed so I don’t have the name of it to share. At the store, I ended up going with the Wedge shadow instead of Soba, because it was less yellow on my skin.

Using an angled brush, we applied MAC charcoal brown shadow as eyeliner to the upper lash line. We lined my eyes with my ancient brown eyeliner and finished the eyes with a black waterproof mascara (which was so difficult to take off). I’m not sure if we used the DIOR blackout mascara, or another. A few were mentioned to me, and I have too much to think about to remember. I wasn’t trilled with the mascara. I think I’ll go get some cheapies at Target to try and just go with one of those. Who knows when I’ll use it again besides on our honeymoon in Hawaii.
Next we applied concealer, so any dust from the eyeshadow didn’t stick to my face. We usedthe Laura Mercier secret camouflage concealer #2, and I really liked it. In her salon it looked pink, which was perfect because I do have a lot of pink in my skin, but in Sephora it looked really yellow - strange. I still bought it, so we’ll see.

Then we applied my own blush from Chantecaille. I think it’s called Mood.

And for the lips, a heavy layer of NARS Turkish delight lip gloss and a liner which I was not a fan of, so she didn’t add it on my list of makeup to buy.

*I despise lip gloss.* It’s so sticky and I hate when I close my lips that the gloss smushes up and makes an ugly line on my upper lip. Bleh. I really wanted a light colored matte lipstick - and maybe I’d put some of my fresh lip balm over it for some shine, but she didn’t have one to recommend. So any ladies with a nice light lip color like those in my inspiration pics, please let me know about it! Yes, I know they have gloss on in the inspiration pics, but I’m hoping there is an alternative out there.
So here I am fresh faced into the world.
And here I am, all done up after my first trial with full makeup.

And from the side.
Okay, I know I look better in the latter photos than in the first photo, but I go “ack” when I see these after photos, too. Besides issues already mentioned, I thought the eyes were really heavy looking in natural light, so I went back (I had only used half the time I paid for during round one) and we re-did the eyes. This time we used some shadow as eyeliner and didn’t do the very dark eye crease. I could show you a pic, but it’s basically a no makeup face with glamour eyes so it will still look weird, but trust me, it was much better.
It’s getting there. Since I didn’t like the foundation, she suggested just spot concealing during round two and forgoing foundation all together, but I did want more coverage than that. I took it upon myself to ask some friends for a foundation suggestion, and found myself at Bare Escentuals. That stuff is lightweight for sure! I bought the light foundation and the mineral veil and called it a day.

I’ll have to practice before the big day, but I think I’ll be able to pull something similar off with my arsenal of new makeup!
What type of look are you going for on your wedding day? Do you want to be dewy? Seductive? Something bold? And what’s your makeup must have? For me, it’s a good concealer for under the eyes and so far, the one recommended here is working out great along with the Bare Minerals foundation.
