Mrs. Ramen's Picture
Mrs. Ramen, Phoenix Age and Occupation: 26, Optometry Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Industrial Designer Engagement Date: January 3, 2009 Wedding Date: December 19, 2009 Venue: Phoenix Art Museum About Me: I'm an SF-born, Seattle-raised girl, transplanted to Phoenix where I'll be getting married, and planning all the way from Orange County where I go to school (yes, it feels as crazy as it sounds). I loooooove Yogurtland, am slightly very obsessed with all things paper, am heavily addicted to wedding blogs, deeply desire a puppy, thoroughly enjoy cooking, cry when I watch (almost all) movies, thrive on solo car-karaoke, can't stop being sarcastic, am neurotic about taking pictures of almost everything I eat before I eat it, and aspire to travel the world. My super-talented fiance and I are attempting to DIY a majority of our massive (~350 guests) "clean & modern, yet romantic, but completely unexpected, with a teeny dash of vintage" wedding, stay within our not-so-massive budget, and somehow get a really luxe (but still fun!) look/feel at the same time. In music terms (since we're both really into music) think Coldplay meets Motown meets Kanye meets Sinatra.
About Mrs. Ramen

I Wanna Hold Your Hand

September 22nd, 2009 @ 1:02 pm by Mrs. Ramen

I could totally make this into a long drawn-out story, but I’ll just cut to the chase.

My family moved to Phoenix in ‘04. I had briefly been introduced to Mr. Ramen, whose family goes to the church that my dad currently pastors in Phoenix a few months prior to then. We were NOT into each other when we first met, but we somehow became friends anyway. After I graduated from UCI (goooo anteaters!), I moved to Phoenix since I had no plans for the future. Mr. Ramen and I started hanging out on a regular basis, and were both involved with a Christian campus ministry at ASU. I was never really interested in him, since he IS younger than me, but we just clicked! And at some point, we both started getting mixed signals from each other. We both confided in a mutual friend (one of Mr. Ramen’s groomsmen, D) who decided to try to mastermind us together.

—> Funny tangent: Mr. Ramen and I had played a practical joke on this same friend, D, about a year before we started dating. We were both on AIM, chatting with him at the same time (I think we were actually sitting next to each other, giggling) and telling him that we liked each other and didn’t know what to do. He was freaking out completely! Funny how the tables turned, and this scenario actually became reality! <—

After a month of agonizing and wondering, one thing led to another, and I found myself having dinner at a random Middle Eastern restaurant with Mr. Ramen, who was acting funny. We DTRed that night… and the rest is history! We’ve been inseparable ever since.

I Wanna Hold Your Hand : wedding relationships 180

Around the time when Mr. Ramen finally said those magical 3 words to me!

Early on in our relationship, we decided that that particular 4-letter word was used too easily and frequently to really mean anything if there wasn’t any real commitment to back it up. We didn’t want to just throw “iloveyous” around and have them eventually mean nothing. I had seen so many girlfriends hurt by guys who told them that they loved them but then left them, and I didn’t want to allow myself to get too attached to Mr. Ramen if he wasn’t going to be there for me in the long run. And thankfully, he felt the same way - although he really wanted to say it to me waaaay before the proposal! We actually had originally planned on saving our first kiss for that moment too… but, uhhhhhhhh… we were really close, but we like each other too much (and I was moving out of state for optometry school). Ha ha. Let’s just say we are REALLY looking forward to the wedding night!

When did you and your Mr. first say “I love you”? How do you keep those words meaningful?

That is such a great story! We said I love you pretty quickly, but also had a conversation before that about how we didn’t want to feel pressure to say it or anything like that. I guess when you know, you know!!

Awww, such a sweet post! Mr. Bru and I find different ways to say “I love you” — sometimes it’s another language, but it’s often a simple act like cooking dinner or cleaning up the apartment for the other person. :-)

That is adorable. I love that we have a Christian bride here to share her story on weddingbee! Can’t wait to hear more about your journey. :-)

Such a great story! We said it pretty quickly, and we keep it special the same way Mrs. Bruschetta said - simple acts for each other. We’re always very quick to remind each other WHY we love one another as well. :)

What a sweet story! We waited awhile to say “I love you” and it was so special when we actually did.

That’s a sweet story. My husband pretty much told me a week after we started dating - we moved REALLY fast. He had a ring picked about 6 weeks after dating. Again - during the dating time we moved REALLY fast.

We were together for about a year and a half before we said, “I love you” and a lot of that was due to our LDR and an upcoming deployment. “Let’s just say we are REALLY looking forward to the wedding night!” - I’m with you Ramen!

You guys are two cute! I really respect you for waiting to say “I love you.” So sweet of you to wait! While we couldn’t resist saying “I love you” (although, we were pretty deep into our relationship when I couldn’t stand it any more and had to tell him!), we were in the “looking forward to the wedding night” club. So. Worth. It. :-)

I’m so looking forward to your posts! My fiance and I really want to serve the Lord in our relationship as well and, like you two, have really tried to guard our hearts. We also chose to wait until the proposal for “I love you” and the kiss (we were long distance for 1.5 years, so it made not kissing a little easier). And we’re DEFINITELY looking forward to the wedding night as well!

Good luck with planning!!!

I’m soo in the ‘can’t wait for the wedding night club’ - it’s so exciting!
We also waited until the proposal to say ‘ I love you’ for pretty much the same reason you did. It took us 3.5 yrs to say the L word, but I knew wayyy before that ;-).

Good story, Ramen!

And hey- I was showing one of my friends at work Weddingbee and I think she knows you… ok this was a really long comment haha

MR and I danced around “I love you” for so long … saying everything but that … and we weren’t actually even saying it when we did … though both of us had a similar talk about not wanting to say it without knowing the commitment, plus both of us had been burned REALLY TERRIBLY by exes who said they loved us and took it back…. and when he finally turned to me and said “I love you” I felt my heart melt for him … we became a couple 2 days later!
Thanks for your story~ it was so sweet!
