Miss Frozen Yogurt's Picture
Miss Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

Wedding Barn

September 22nd, 2009 @ 11:24 am by Miss Frozen Yogurt

I was recently telling a friend of mine that if we were to do a more casual wedding, I would want to do it in a barn. A barn? Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, but I’ve seen some amazing photos of peoples’ weddings in barns. I’m from Texas, so it’s not totally random for me to think of a barn. I really want to do a mix of vintage, rustic and some modern elements, and I think that would be pretty simple to do with a barn backdrop. I would easily be able to incorporate the mason jars, and then I would also have a reason to use a chalkboard, which I’ve been secretly loving. Just look at some of these amazing photos from Leigh Miller Photography.

And, if we did the barn thing, I could use this gorgeous typewriter as our guestbook, which I’ve also been secretly wanting to do.

What’s your secret alternative wedding locale? If you could choose any backdrop for your wedding, what would you choose?

It would be the two of us going to the place we met back in Italy. But barn weddings are pretty gorgeous.

I love playing the “wedding what-if” game! What if I decided on a short dress? What if I went with a brighter color palette? What if I had chosen a rustic theme? There’s too much inspiration out there not to say “what if!”

If I had an alternative locale, it would definitely be a backyard wedding under a huge tree.

An elopement the Heceta Head Lighthouse in Oregon - http://www.hecetalighthouse.com/ - I’ve never been there but when I was researching elopements, I fell in love with it.

Barn weddings are some of my favorites! I’ve posted so many barn wedding inspiration boards, that I think my family will be surprised if I don’t get married in one. ;)

Oooo, don’t get me started thinking about this! It’s dangerous! I might end up planning some elaborate vow renewal we’d just HAVE to do some time in the future! ;-)

I heart wedding barns! And I think I have all of those same inspiration photos that I used for my wedding… I love everything about them!

I seriously adore barn weddings…which is funny because I’m such a city person. When we started the venue searched I looked locally for a barn or something similar that would allow us to have the relaxed and rustic feel…but never found anything that worked. :( I still stalk pictures of that style of wedding on a regular basis though.

Barn weddings are beautiful! Didn’t Ms. Bunny have her reception in a barn?

We are incorporating a lot of those rustic elements - chalkboards, mason jars, etc. - into our outdoor wedding!

Oh and I’m also determined to find a way to incorporate chalkboards into our wedding…

We had lots of those elements in our wedding too: wine barrels, chalkboards, fairy lights, hanging vases and votives, mason jars. It was gorgeous. I had wanted a barn but couldn’t find one; had to settle for a winery instead.

My alternative wedding would be in a chic, urban space. Soaring ceilings, exposed brick, perhaps some industrial fixtures and everyone would have to wear black tie. :)

barn weddings look so awesome! I would love to work in chalkboards to my wedding, but I’m not really sure how to. I think my secret alternative would be an outdoor wedding at the gazebo where we got engaged. Although, it may not be a big secret :)

Thankfully I learned to use some of the elements I really loved from the barn wedding in our own wedding, so I like to think they’ll be some “barn” representation. :)

@alvina: people type messages to you that they would normally write, using the vintage typewriter. :)

And you’ve just posted my dream wedding-I stalk those kinds of pictures like it’s going out of style. The mr. loves those kinds of venues as well, which was pretty suprising.

But we are prob going to have to settle for a church/winery or a church/botanical garden wedding.

There has been a strong trend lately having weddings in vineyards, it’s a safe bet that soon enough the trend will turn to farms with big red barns. The pictures would truly be remarkable…the smell, not too sure about.

My what if is “what if I had a lot of money and a giant budget?”
I would definitely have our reception at a swanky swanky downtown art museum. It would be amazing

I got some puzzled looks from my future pops-in-law when I said we wanted a farm/barn wedding! He came around when I showed him some inspirational photos similar to the ones in this post! Hooray!

My secret dream wedding is a huge, swanky, self-indulgent ballroom reception. With up-lighting. And lots of things that sparkle.

But that is SO NOT my fiance - and I guess it’s not really me either. So laid back, small-town winery it is :)

@Little Lulu: I’m going to use chalkboards to write out what cocktails people can have. I had to have them!!

I would have done a picnic under a free form tent in a beautiful garden setting… I still see it now in my head…. the baskets, colors, blankets and homeliness of it all. I think barn weddings tap right into that too!

If we could have had our wedding anywhere else it would have been a barn… but looking back at our wedding it was very barnesque :)

Great pics! I really love that typewriter!
My ideal location would be the camp I grew up at (my grandfather used to be the ranger) for the ceremony … not sure for the reception as they don’t allow alcohol there, and, um I’m not sure we could have a dry reception … it’s just not us. Haha.
The problem with that location? It’s pretty far for most of our guests, there’s nowhere to stay near there or a reception site near there that we’d like … and my aunt and uncle got married in that exact same spot almost 20 years ago … which would be fine if I got along with said aunt but I don’t really! Ah, to dream!

Mine would be a barn, too! But with 400 guests and the need for an open flame for our Hindu ceremony, it was pretty much out of the question. We are getting married at a winery, so I hope to “barn it up” as much as possible.

My wedding is in a barn! Dark wood and candlelight is an amazing combination. My alternative would probably be outside in one of those amazing tents that they decorate to the max so it doesn’t even look like a tent anymore.

We were married at a game lodge (I’m from South Africa) but if we lived closer to the ocean, I’d definitely have a seaside wedding!

Barns are perfect for weddings! I guess my Plan B (or C, actually) would’ve been getting married in our backyard.
