Dressy Dreams

September 23rd, 2009 @ 2:07 pm by Mrs. Parfait

My future mother-in-law is shocked that I haven’t gone shopping for wedding dresses yet! I have several reasons for this:

  1. I am concerned that if I start now, I will have ten wedding dresses by April.
  2. I want to go with my mom, but she lives in Florida.
  3. I thought about wearing the dress I wore to prom. Is that crazy?

Late last night, I began an innocent search. I decided to save all the dresses that I immediately liked and try to narrow down my taste and style. I started at Jim Hjelm, because I fell in love with this dress a while ago:

Sweet, chic, simple

Before I knew it, I was saving dresses left and right! I should have known that once I started looking, I’d fall in love with a dozen wedding dresses! I just love things that are pretty, and wedding dresses are sooooo pretty. Here are the dresses I adore:

Dressy Dreams : wedding wedding dress 3 dress3 8864

Floaty, feminine, dramatic

Dressy Dreams : wedding wedding dress 4 dress4 8912_x11

Soft, unique, vintage-y

Dressy Dreams : wedding wedding dress 5 dress5 8750_x1

Modern, fitted, gorgeous

Dressy Dreams : wedding wedding dress 61 dress8 9751_x2

Old-world, detailed, romantic

Dressy Dreams : wedding wedding dress 7 dress7 8652

Princess-y, shimmery, pretty

Dressy Dreams : wedding wedding dress 8 dress6 86511

Pleated, modest, classy

Oh la la!  So much to choose from! I’m getting eager to start trying some on. ;)

When it came to wedding dresses, were you drawn to a bunch of different styles or did you know exactly what you wanted?

such pretty dresses! I really like the vintage-y one which is funny because I’m not feeling a vintage feel for us … hrm. There are WAY TOO MANY dresses to choose from!

I’m drawn to so many dresses. I have no idea how I’m going to manage my indecisiveness on the dress issue!

Parfait–you are stunning! totally model worthy in those photos…you’ve got the look for Jim Hjelm that’s for sure! My favorite is the first dress! (but I also love the off the shoulder with the ruffles.)

I LOVE JIM HJELM!! I tried on so many at a trunk show and I ended up buying 8950, its from the fall 2009 collection! You won’t be disappointed when you go, but like you said, maybe you’ll end up with 10 by April!

Oh yeah to answer the question…I originally wanted a Jim Hjelm all lace dress from all the pictures I saw, but I ended up with an all silk gown (no lace)!

I love the “Soft, unique, vintage-y” dress. It’s beautiful. I had a pretty set idea in my mind as to what kind of dress I wanted…lace, romantic, vintage. (thats probably why I like that dress the best!) I brought a few pictures with me to the salons but I was open to trying on all types of styles. I had no idea what would look good on me so I wanted to cover all the bases. Good luck in your search!

I knew exactly the silhouette I wanted, and lucky for me it worked and I got my dress my first shopping trip. I too was IN LOVE with Jim Helm - they did not flatter me one bit! I was a tad down, but Lazarro looked amazing and that is what I got. Lazarro and J.Helm are both in the same JLM Couture family at least.

PS - yes Prom dress would be crazy

Miss Parafait…The dress in the 2nd picture is almost exactly like the dress i am wearing in 2 weeks only the top is plain, no lace. It is a Justin Alexander. I went in thinking i wanted a lace one like the ones you have showed but i ended up with NO LACE. You have to just start looking and you will know which one it is when you try it on. Usually what you think you want is not what you end up getting. Good Luck!

What I thought I wanted and what I bought are very different!! That’s ok though, I’ve heard that’s usually how it goes!

My dress is the Jim Hjelm 8651 (the last one on your post) and I fell into the same trap as you. I, too, am getting married in April and bought my JH months ago. I am now starting to have dress envy and even considered buying another one “just in case”. It makes me happy to see you like the same dress, I think I’ll keep her! Best to you in your search, you cannot go wrong with any of the dresses you have saved!

I was pretty sure what I wanted, and I didn’t get it. I bought my dress WAY too early, and now I am regretting it. I’m considering shopping for a new dress. We’ll see….

To #3….you are not crazy. I also wanted to wear my prom dress on my wedding day. If it still fit, I really think I would! :) I agree that you should post the prom dress!
