“Nailing” Down A Simple Task

September 23rd, 2009 @ 1:09 pm by Mrs. Labrador

This weekend I inadvertently completed a minor wedding task while preparing for another wedding-related event: my bachelorette party! I can’t write about the party until I get photos back from my girls, but I can sure tell you about that minor task in the meantime! :)

*Cue overly-dramatic drum roll for said minor task!*

I finally picked out my wedding day nail polish color!

Since getting engaged, every time I needed a manicure I’d use it as an excuse (aka “research”) to try a new shade of nail polish for the wedding. I’d run around for a few weeks imagining it with my wedding ensemble until it had finally chipped away to the point of no return. Then I’d wait until I could come up with a good enough reason to shell out $15-25 for another manicure (usually for a wedding shower/party/etc.). I had just about given up finding the perfect shade (nearly opting to go with the good ol’ french mani standby) when I stumbled upon this absolutely gorgeous line of OPI nail colors fit for any bride with a romantic, fairytale-style wedding in mind!

And just like *that*, I had my wedding day nail polish! It ties in perfectly with my skin tone and the muted pinks in our wedding color palette.

Isn’t it purdy?!?

But there’s a slight problem. Apparently I had picked a popular shade. The name of the shade had been worn away beyond recognition on the bottle. So now I have a perfect nail color with no name! My nails will certainly need to be touched up again before the wedding so that means I only have one of two options: 1.) Make sure I go back to the exact same salon and hope and pray they still have that same color or 2.) Find the color on my own, buy it, and take it to whatever salon I use for the wedding.

Thankfully, OPI’s website has this handy (hah, get it, “hand”-y?!) little feature called “Try It On” where you can get an idea of what a particular shade will look like on you. I’m hoping I may have found my mysterious wedding color:

I’m really sad that I fell in love with a nameless color. I just hope I can channel my inner Nancy Drew and solve this case before it’s time for my final pre-wedding mani!

What shade is your wedding day nail polish?

Why don’t you go to purchase it before it wears off, so you have something to compare it to? Even better, try taking off the color from one of your nails so that you can test the potential colors on that, I think you can get OPI in a few different places.

i love the shade and i love opi! in my experience the online tool isn’t that great at matching the shade in real life. i would go to another salon or better yet to an ULTA or Sephora store and show them your hand and try to match it. good luck!

Ok - the hand thing is a bit creepy but SO GREAT!!! I REALLY wish I had knownw about this before my wedding. hmmm - i am getting a mani/pedi next week so maybe i’ll put it to use now! :) I love your choice!! its soft and romantic but not pushover pink.

I love the OPI feature on their website, but agree that the hand is creepy looking!

I think I’m going with my favorite standby: OPI Privacy Please. It’s a very soft pink. I’m not a big fan of the French Manicures, so this is perfect.

OMG I am so glad to hear I am not the only person obsessing over this element of the wedding! I have been doing the same thing with the manicures! I would visit OPI.com and write down possible shades and then try them out. I decided on “At First Sight.” a pale nude shimmer. :D

I’m going with my everyday color: OPI Bubble Bath
butI’m getting an OPI Axxium gel polish mani before the wedding - guaranteed 2 weeks without chipping!

I opted for the classic French manicure, because I don’t usually polish my nails, and wanted something that looked very neutral and natural. Good luck identifying the color!

I think I’m also going to go with a really neutral/ nude OPI shade. I forgot about that OPI shade picker thing! Now I’m off to play with that website. :p

I feel like whenever I get a French manicure it shows the chipping so easily, and I’m hella hard on my hands!! I went with a pale pink shade with a little shimmer. It went along with my plan for the day to look like myself, only more polished!

Thats a really cute color, I hope you find it!! If you go back and take a look at the bottle, maybe there’s an item number or something else that would identify it??

I wore “Kiss on the Chic” for my wedding and looooved it! Perfect color and it photographed really well. So, I (obviously) don’t know if that’s the color you found in the nail shop but it would be a good choice for your wedding day! KOTC is now my go to color for everyday wear and I get tons of compliments on it. I highly recommend it, Ms. Lab! Good choice!

I picked up a bottle of “Otherwise Engaged” at Trade Secret, and they seemed to have all the current OPI colors. Check and see if you have one in your area. When you’re in the store and trying to find the match, put a little dot of the nail polish on some scotch tape, and then put it on the top of your hand. I’ll give you a mess free idea of how it’ll look.

I would try comparing in person. I think Target carries the OPI line now. I would definitely want to have a bottle just to take with me on the day of, especially considering how popular it appparently is!

I used OPIs “Bubble Bath” which is the same color that Giada DeLaurentis wears on her Food Network show. It is very natural looking. Love OPI and the cool try it on hand gadget!
