Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
About Mrs. Poodle

The Day is Getting Close

September 23rd, 2009 @ 1:35 pm by Mrs. Poodle

And I’m not talking about our wedding day, I’m talking about a day we have waited for for 9 months…

… we will finally be reunited!!

Yeah! In exactly 12 days from today I’ll have my visa interview, and hopefully a couple of weeks later I’ll be on a plane with baby Curly, on my way to go marry Mr. Poodle - YAY!! And even though I’m extremely excited about that, I’m not so happy about the packing, the amount of paperwork left that Curly and I need to travel, and the fact that I’m still struggling with the emotional aspects of this move.

The past couple of week were very busy, BUT the next couple are going to be CRAZY! That’s why you probably won’t hear a lot from me over the next few weeks, but I don’t want you guys to forget about me!

Before my move, I need to finish my wedding dress and as many of the “sewing machine involved” projects I still have left, since I still don’t know where to get a sewing machine in the States within my budget (Mr. Poodle, if your reading this… *hint hint* ). So it’s going to be massive sewing, massive packing, and some partying, since all of my friends want to hang out with me before I leave.

Now that I look back to on our visa journey we started 8 months a go, I feel like we are about to cross the first one of our finish lines.

I know this is not the most glamorous way to cross it, but I think it reflects the feeling of our journey, because unlike most of the other cases I’ve followed, ours has not been very smooth. That’s why being reunited was the light at the end of the tunnel a lot of times. We never had problems in our relationship caused by distance, but I did have breakdowns once or twice due to the frustration this whole process brought me, plus the fact that we were unable to travel to see each other during this 9 month wait.

So, my lovely ladies (and guys), all good vibes are very welcome for the day of my interview, and please don’t forget about me! I’ll come back renewed, and hopefully geographically closer to many of you!! (SoCal bee meet-ups *hint hint*)

Have you been apart from your SO for a significant period of time during your engagement? Why, and how did you handle it?

I can’t imagine how happy you’re going to feel when you can see eachother again! I’m so happy for you. My fiance was half way across the states for 6 months of our relationship and it was one the hardest things we’ve both dealt with. Distance does make the heart grow fonder though! Good luck with your interview, I hope everything goes smoothly!

Miss Poodle, I have been following your blog because of your incredible DIY talents (jealous!!). But I can also relate on many other levels, not the least of which is the fact that my partner is English and we know all too well how complex the immigration process can be. Skype is no substitute for cuddles! Also, he moved to be with me for logistical reasons (he had already quit his job whereas I was just accepted into grad school), but it was very difficult for him to leave his family and close-knit group of friends. It was hard at first, when I was so busy and before he could work, because it took awhile to make true friends and he was pretty lonely. But now, almost a year later, he doesn’t want to leave! He says that of all the places he’s ever lived, Seattle is the best. So hang in there, and remember that life is a long journey and the ups and downs won’t end when once you land in Cali - but that having someone to help push you up the hills makes it infinitely more enjoyable!

Mr Spin is on rotations and we see each other for a weekend every couple weeks or so. Which isn’t that bad, but between different stages of school and his rotations we’ve been going on like this for almost 3 years now. Last winter was the roughest for some reason, but the end is in sight. Thank god. Not seeing each other is getting really old and I can’t help but be jealous of all my friends who see their boyfriends/husbands whenever they want. ^_^

My fiance lives in Germany and I live in San Francisco… It is so hard to be apart and to make matters worse, we have not figured out if I am moving there or if he is moving here… It all depends on the job thing and with the economy, that has been up in the air as well. We have been waiting for some kind of sign, some kind of omen, some kind of anything to tell us “what to do”… But we have figured, Home is where ever WE are, as long as we’re together.
We have faith it will all work out and that all of this struggle and missing each other is well worth it in the long run because we will finally be married!

Good luck to you and Mr. Poodle with your interview… I could only imagine how nerve racking that is going to be ;o)

Yessss. Long distance sucks!! But I guess you do learn to make it work and hopefully the thought of FOREVER makes up for the 12 months apart!

So happy you are Curly are one step closer to being reunited with Mr. Poodle!!

I’m curious about the process to bring Curly to the US? For example does Curly have to do a holding or quarantine period when you arrive?

Congratulations on being so close Miss Poodle! My DH and I were separated for over a year–which was all of our engagement and a chunk of our dating relationship. it was really hard, but the moment you’re reunited for good–you hardly remember all the struggles of long-distance. I’m so excited for you.

ps. you can get decent sewing machines at JoAnns or Michael’s for$100-$200…Check when they have a sale when you get to the US!

Yay! Good vibes! Just focus on the end and you’ll get there!
Also, I don’t know what you budget is - but my FMIL has this machine and it’s very reasonably priced (and free shipping) and a great machine. (I have the 20-year-old version and it still works great.) http://www.amazon.com/Brother-CS6000I-60-Stitch-Computerized-Functions/dp/B000JQM1DE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1253731265&sr=8-1
Otherwise, check out Craigslist.
