Mrs. Frozen Yogurt's Picture
Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

The Honeymoon!

September 23rd, 2009 @ 4:04 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

Mr. Fro Yo is in charge of the honeymoon, and yes, he does know this. Has he done a lot of research on it yet? Not so much. I figured giving him fun things like honeymoon planning was the best way to go, because we all know boys and planning weddings typically do not mesh well together. I tried to assign him DJs, and so far he’s still thinking about which sites he wants to use to search for DJs, but hasn’t actually searched. Hmm…

Anyway, he did offer a suggestion for where we should go for our honeymoon: Puerto Rico! I was really excited about it, and hadn’t considered it previously. They use US currency, we don’t need a passport, and it has a gorgeous beach with lots of activities, should we decide we want to do more than lay around on the beach. Just look at some of the beach photos:

AND they have some luxury resorts that feature your very own swimming pool right outside your room.

OR you could skip the resort thing (which we will probably do, because let’s be honest, we aren’t resort people), and you can stay in an entire rented house!

And they even have a waterfall right down the way from the house. Plus you can go snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, there are rain forests. I mean, seriously this sounds amazing! The house, is called Villa Sevilla, and it looks like a high contender right now.

Would you prefer a private rented house or a resort for your honeymoon? Why?

Wow, I’ve NEVER thought of the idea of a rented house — but it’s a great one!

I highly recommend Puerto Rico, it is BEAUTIFUL, the people and the food there are wonderful and as you noted in your post — easy to travel to since it’s a US commonwealth.

Gosh…house vs. resort — do I have to choose???? I’ll take door #3, a two week honeymoon with a week at a resort and a week in a private house :D

It’s so beautiful there! I would do an all-inclusive resort, so we’d be responsibility-free. : ) But I’ve never rented a house–it could be a lot of fun!

Gorgeous water!! I would definitely go for a house. We stayed in Mexico for a week when I was in highschool and we rented a condo in a little village and it was so amazing!! It made it so easy to immerse ourselves in the culture and take advantage of all the little bars and restaurants.

I am totally a resort person! Mr. TB has never got to stay in a resort so we probably will - try everything once, right? :)

Private house or a combination of both for me! Puerto Rico is beautiful! If you’re looking for untouched secluded beaches, try Vieques and don’t miss the chance to swim in the bioluminecent bay at night!

if we would have gone to costa rica on our honeymoon we would have looked into renting a townhouse or condo. What a great idea and pretty place!

I L-O-V-E love Puerto Rico. I surprised my Mr. with a trip for Christmas several years ago. We had a blast!
I love the idea of being in a private house, but it is really convenient to be at a resort and have everything you need/want instantly available.
I’m hoping we can find a great all-inclusive for our honeymoon. I love paying before and not having to worry about anything else (especially since I’m a drinker).

Yeah, that’s the thing, my mister doesn’t drink at all, but he can eat, so I’m torn on whether or not we should go the all inclusive route. Hmm..something to think about.

I’d prefer the rented house, that way I could cook sometimes if we wanted too… and I know we would want to :)

Seconding lily_dsm’s recommendations re: Vieques. It’s a one hour ferry ride or you can take a private plane for $40 and be there in 15 min from San Juan. The bio-bay is amazing - it’s like swimming in little X-mas lights. And there are some very secluded beaches for romance. There are charming guesthouses available for rent and they are opening a W hotel at the end of the year.

We’ve started renting private homes/condos for our vacations, and we MUCH prefer it over resorts…

You should check out Vieques Island in Puerto Rico and the glow in the dark bay. It’s an incredible experience. So is hiking in El Yunque.

I would def do the rented house, if you do end up going to PR, then make sure you go to Senor Frogs by the ship port, they have the BEST melon ball I’ve ever had in my life!! We spent hours at Fort San Cristibal, and wandering around looking at the old houses and teeny tiny streets. Can’t wait to go back there in a month
