Why Mr. Ramen Rocks : wedding diy save the dates Sept09

Aside from being a general really-awesome-totally-adorable-just-want-to-kiss-him-super-sweet kind of guy (at least in my eyes), Mr. Ramen has been my design slave (I think I’ve mentioned this before… but it’s definitely worth mentioning again). Don’t worry - I treat him well; he is paid in neck/back rubs, homemade dinners, extra cuddling with me while watching heroes (I’m totally missing this new season, boooo), or SYTYCD (again… missing this season).

Why Mr. Ramen Rocks : wedding diy save the dates Sept0901 Our labor of love… what most of time together looks like; Mr. Ramen re-working our invite design, while I am probably reading WB.

So I have all of these great ideas in my head, but I guess I have a hard time communicating them… and even when I draw them out, let’s just say that my drawing skills are pretty much non-existent. Mr. Ramen is just amused by my very disproportionate drawings. I actually tried to learn how to use Photoshop (or was it Illustrator?). I dunno, but it’s a long process, I dislike it very much, and pretty much am inept when it comes to that program. So, Mr. Ramen got to be the one to bring my designs to life.

After showing him a million different pictures of things that I liked (but that weren’t necessarily similar to each other at all…) we decided to go with something a little more cutesy and fun than what I had originally envisioned.

So I present to you our Save The Date design! To save a little $$, we made it into a postcard, printed it with coupon codes from OvernightPrints.com (we went with the glossy coat on both sides), and handed out as many as we could in person.

After receiving our STDs (I totally know this is juvenile, but using the acronym “STD” sounds so inappropriate sometimes, it cracks me up. HAH!), lots of relatives were contacting us or our parents saying, “It looks JUST like Mr./Miss Ramen! How did they find something that looks like them?” Why yes, Mr. uber-talented Ramen made them. Yeahhhhhhhh. I’m marrying him.

Anyways - whether we look like our cartoons, I’ll let you be the judge of that. I think for sure Mr. Ramen looks like himself… but me? I dunno…

Why Mr. Ramen Rocks : wedding diy save the dates Engagem01 Where life imitates art. This is a picture from one of our engagement shoots. Picture by my sister.

Here’s the back of the postcard - to make it look a little more nontraditional, we decided to switch up the direction of the words. The heart was placed where the stamp would go, since we knew we would be passing out a lot of them, and wanted them to still have the look of a postcard. The ampersands worked out perfectly to help me center the names; we used clear printer labels to address the STDs. I really wanted to balance out our sans serif font (GeoSansLight) with a pretty script - so I searched on myfonts.com FOREVER and found Luxus Brut. The rest is history…

So there you have it, our STDs! I’m so proud of Mr. Ramen’s skeeeeelz (along with his bow hunting skills, nunchuk skills, and computer hacking skills). We’ve taken this design concept and incorporated it into our wedding website, which he ALSO designed, in Flash! I don’t even really know what that means, except that I can’t hit the “back” button on the site. Sigh. My hero.

Our next major paper project was working on our wedding invitations! We FINALLY finished the design for them and sent them off to be letterpressed by Kristin of Twin Ravens! I love her too…. And since we won’t be sending them out until sometime in October, you’ll just have to wait till then to see them! (I know, what a tease…)

What have you and your fiance collaborated on?

Awwww, your STD is soooo cute — love the unconventional back, as well as the super cute versions of the two of you on the front!

Eeeek! Your STDs (Mr. D always giggles at that too) are sooo cute!

Mr. D isn’t really an artsy or crafty guy. I’m doing most of the imagining and designing of our things… I think Mr. D will be good at cutting and assembling, though : )

Can I just say that I adore the illustration of you too! It’s absolutely adorable! We collaborated on our Save the Dates too. We plan on assembling them together and I’ll be doing the design. (I might end up doing the assembly with the help of my girls though, my fiance isn’t the craftiest man. :P)

It’s funny. You’re STD looks a lot like mine. I used mine and my mister’s avatars from the xBox360 (they look a lot like us) and made it in to a postcard! Your’s is absolutely adorable!

Cute, cute!

Our initials are the same and I made a rubber stamp with two interlocking circles with the A in one and the J in the other. We used the same Century Gothic font that you did! It reminds me very much of your STD.

I love them! And yes, Mr Moo and I giggle at “STD’s” as well - actually when I first told him about them he giggled so much we decided we couldn’t actually do them and give them out with a straight face ;)

question! how far in advance did you send out your save-the-dates? we’re getting married in december too (next year, of course :P) and are debating on when to send them out since it’s so close to the holidays (or actually, it’s on a holiday (sort of) - we’re getting married new year’s eve of 2010). we were thinking of sending them out around january/february of 2010 - is that too soon? maybe wait ’til march/april?? later?? ack!

those are so cute! and you guys sound like me and my guy, the computer pirate. he does all this cool stuff [he designed my personal blog and set up the planning side too though we're still working on a design] with computers and asks for my input and all i can come up with, “i want something cute. but not girly.” sigh. how he gets anything done for me is beyond me!

Stealing your fiance and hiding him in my closet for all my design related projects, thanks! Seriously though - your man is SO talented! Mine husbands talents involve the corner rounder (an equally helpful task, he assures me)

@mechiebaby: i KNOW; we could make money off of his skilllz. but he’s pretty much told me “no more weddings after ours”. haha, poor guy.

@future.mrs.v: our wedding is in dec and we sent/passed them out in late June/early July - so roughly 6 months. I think they recommend 6-8m, especially if your wedding is during the holidays. I’d say any more than that and ppl will forget.
