About Mrs. French Bulldog

Caution: One of these photos may not be suitable for work.

The most exciting part about the two FULL days we spent in Montreal, (besides our free breakfast, and happy hour) was going to a museum I’d seen in our travel book. Pointe-à-Callière was just 3 blocks down the street from our hotel. It was nice not to need our car to get somewhere.

Yes, they had a Pirate exhibit, and we made it there too, but our favorite exhibit was the Archaeological site below the museum. The exhibit was amazing. Mr Frenchie kept thanking me for thinking of coming to this museum. There is something incredible about learning the history of the very spot you are standing on. If you ever find yourself in Montreal, I cannot recommend this exhibit highly enough.

The next day when we were off exploring again, the museum had set up an old farmer’s market.

It was fun seeing how they had tied it in to the exhibit we’d seen the day before.

I was even excited in the rain! I’m horrible with history, so I was probably more exited because the whole market made sense to me.

The while in Montreal, we finally found Mr Frenchie’s Starbucks.

We realized when he was going to order that his standard coffee with an inch of cold soy wouldn’t work with their metric system. He felt really silly saying it in centimeters.

We saw some interesting shops…

Yes, those are what you think they are.

Um… yeah, this Christmas store wasn’t as cool as we thought it would be. But, it was good for a laugh.

Sadly, because of our day of rain, we didn’t make it to a few places we wanted to see. Mount Royal, the Biodome,

Olympic Stadium,

and Pixel City.

But, as you can see, we did get to see them from afar. (Pixel City was my favorite. It was across the river from our hotel.)

Did weather keep you from any activities you wanted to do or places you wanted to go to on your honeymoon?

Up Next: Ottawa, and why we cut our trip in Canada short.

Montreal is a fabulous city! And I hate to be a total architard, but “Pixel City” is actually Habitat ‘67 - built by a Canadian architect Moshe Safdi, and was designed as his master’s thesis project! It was part of Expo ‘67 back in the day.

I’m glad you enjoyed your trip!

Hi Frenchie. That dome you point to is actually not the Biodome, which is located right next to Olympic Stadium. It’s the Biosphere, originally designed for the Montreal Expo 67 by Buckminster Fuller, of Epcot Center fame. The names are crazy similar. Glad you liked the archeological museum–some friends of mine loved it when they went.

I think I must qualify as an ‘architard’ too, in the words of Littl Miss

You can still say “inch” or “mile” or whatever in Canada btw, the metric system is still relatively new and I know my parents were raised with inches and miles, not centimetres and kilometres.

@Littl Miss: Thank you! We learned about it in my Ecology class last semester and just called it Pixel City. I appreciate knowing what is is really referred to as.
@mariavvisa: Ooops :-/ Thank you!

Ahh, you have GOT to tell me the name of the Christmas store with the entire wall of mer-Christmas tree decorations!!! I am so ashamed to admit it, but I have been mer-person crazy since I was a little girl, and that photo just made me squeal. haha!

Canadians totally know how to measure an inch! I can’t speak for everyone but I’m probably more likely measure in inches than centimetres! (<- and yes, that’s the Canadian spelling too! ;))

: @Jess1054: I believe it is called Noel Eternal Here is a pic of the outside of the store :)

@Sam: I totally didn’t mean to imply that Canadians didn’t know what an inch was! We just didn’t want to hang a huge “We’re From The States” neon sign over our head ;-)

Why… are those toys shaped like eels? o.O

LMAO I actually would love a hot pink, sparkly mermaid ornament on my tree! But I delight in very tacky decorations. For our first Christmas, we received an ornament shaped like our state, covered in sparkles, complete with a cow on one side. I love the damn thing, but I can see how it’s definitely not for everyone’s tastes.

Frenchie I can totally understand not wanting to have the “American” sign over your head! Sometimes I am even surprised how much many fellow Canadians do not like Americans. I don’t think they know very many personally, because I like almost all of the ones I know. :-)

Hahaha, I would probably be more confused if you busted out the centimetres! It kind of depends what region you’re in, but normally most of us over 20 use imperial measurements in everyday conversation, or switch back and forth. Some days I might say there was 30 cm of snow, other days I’ll say it was a foot.

I didn’t really notice how much my FI used metric though until we went to Hawaii and I had to translate for him. Haha.
