Pretty Paper Possibilities

September 25th, 2009 @ 6:06 pm by Mrs. Parfait

As you can probably tell from my last few posts, I’m having trouble deciding what I want for my invitations. The paper part of our wedding is precious to me. You see, as a little girl, I collected stationery like it was my job. I used them up by writing to my friends and cousins, but I always saved at least one sheet and envelope of each kind to keep in my collection. Nowadays, I love perusing the pretty paper goods at Papyrus and Crane & Co. I sigh over the swooping embellishments, luxuriously thick cotton paper, and (of course) the soft grooves of letterpress.

With whatever format we choose, I would like them to have a certain elegance. I love beautiful cards. For example:

Gorgeous letterpress. I especially love the bottom right one.

I fell in love with the above invitations at Elum Designs. If we were having a winter wedding (or a New Year’s Eve wedding, like I kept suggesting from the start!), we could have invitations like these from Bella Figura:

I’d love to receive (or send!) these in the mail.

A close-up. It looks hand-carved!

Mr. Parfait and I are aiming for a playful, cheery, and bright wedding. I did some research on stationery along these lines and found some super-cute examples!

The adorable cones appeal to this ice cream fiend. ;)

I found the two above on Wedding Chicks and Subtle Glances, respectively. I love the clean white paper and the pop of colors. Wedding stationery usually seems so serious to me, but these are fresh, fabulous, and fun! They also give a glimpse of the theme and colors of their celebration. Ours would definitely need a bunny or two on them. Oh gosh, I still haven’t explained the bunnies yet. That’s coming soon, along with our proposal story!

Any other stationery-junkies out there? Where do you fall on the wedding invitation spectrum—are you near the serious and formal end, or are your invites intended to give your guests a giggle?

If you are looking for beautiful letterpress, you should check out Mimi Woo at mika78.com . I am in NJ and she is in Brooklyn and we did the whole process over e-mail. She sent me a ton of gorgeous color proofs and shipped the invitations to me.

She was just so accommodating and wonderful to work with that I promised myself I would recommend her whenever possible. All my guests were floored by the invitations. It was the perfect way to start this whole wedding thing off. Just a great experience.

You’re right; the bottom right one is gorgeous! Makes me think I should have done some blind pressing on mine. :)

Invitations are so hard to pin down. I wish I could have afforded letterpress. C’est la vie.

I loved looking at invites but the choices were overwhelming and sometimes super pricey. We’re doing a black tie wedding so yes, we went with formal but with flair. Ours are from Invitesite so they are eco friendly and they are a DIY kit. The customer service there couldn’t be better and the kits are great. We’re stillin the process of printing but so far, we’re really happy with the results.

Have you discovered scrapbooking yet??? I used to save stationary paper too! Now I have a hobby that lets me buy all the pretty paper I can afford! And you know that stationary collection… I can use it now to make my scrapbooks even more personalized!

A lesson learned: be sure your online vendor sends a physical sample (not pdf) of the exact ink and cardstock they will use. Otherwise you may have no recourse if the colors of the printed invites do not resemble at all the colors of the proofs as seen in your computer monitor.

We used The Aerialist Press for our letterpress and they were awesome. Super easy to work with and REALLY budget-friendly!

I am a total paper junkie. In fact, I will likely end up spending more on my invitations than I will on my dress.

I realize that will seem totally insane for most people, but I just think a fantastic invitation sets the tone for your party. Maybe because I have a marketing background, but your invitation brands your event and I believe it’s important for your personality to shine through.

So many invitations are kinda generic. Lovely, but generic. I want people to be excited about our wedding from the moment they open the save the date.

Love the font of the names on the ice cream ones. Anyone know what it is?

I love the sweet beginnings one! If nothing else because I love that kind of cute symbolism.
We designed our invites with some help from FSIL (who designed the format), we went for the minimalist with a pop of colour look - it’s a nice representation of us and we love it - but oh I’d kill to get me some letterpress!

I love the idea of bright colors popping off of clean, white paper–maybe cotton?

I can’t get enough stationary! I love the bright, fun, exciting colors as well - in my family the only wedding invitations are pretty basic and although they’re nice, they’re just not me! It’s so refreshing to see invites like these out there!

@jocelyn3476: Thank you for the recommendation!

@Miss Moonbeam: Your invites are so beautiful and unique, regardless.

@Miss bliss: I’ve bought a ton of scrapbooking supplies, just cuz they’re pretty, but haven’t actually scrapbooked yet! :P

@CokeInABottle: That’s who we’ve been in talks with! Such great prices and beautiful work.
