Scrapbooking Your Memories

September 25th, 2009 @ 5:12 pm by Mrs. Bee

Yesterday I attended Darcy Miller’s private showing of Family, a special exhibit showcasing her whimsical illustrations and passion for scrapbooking.  The pieces in the collection focused on her wedding, travels, and family, and ranged from shadowboxes, to scrapbooks, to journals to actual items from Darcy’s family life. You could see just how passionate and creative Darcy is when it comes to preserving memories, and I must say that it was truly inspiring!

Once upon a time I was an avid scrapbooker, but that was a hobby that fell to the wayside when the buzz of daily life intervened. I still have all my wedding keepsakes stored in a box because I hoped to scrapbook them all one day.  This exhibit renewed my desire to preserve my own family’s memories in similarly meaningful and beautiful ways, because you don’t necessarily have to be super crafty to replicate some of Darcy’s amazing ideas below!

Darcy creates the most incredible journal/scrapbooks for each of her travels, combining pictures, ticket stubs, and illustrations.. I can only imagine how much fun it must be to go through each of these journals and relive each trip!

Here is a closeup of two pages from a journal she created for her African safari trip.  Imagine a book like this for your honeymoon.  This is something I have to do for my next trip! :)

I’ve seen both these wedding scrapbooks up close and personal, and they are probably the best wedding scrapbooks I have ever seen in my entire life.  Check out close ups of them on a previous post I wrote here!

And because these ideas might inspire you on how to preserve your own memories, here are some of the ways Darcy has showcased her family’s memories.

How do you plan on preserving the memories from your new family life?

Ok I’m inspired now. I’ve had all my pictures and mementos from a trip to Paris 8 years ago stored in the garage. I’m ready to go now! Her scrapbooks are just amazing

Is there anything this woman does that isn’t amazing? These travel journals and shadowboxes are amazing and so inspiring! I’m always looking for ways to commemorate trips and life events. This is a beautiful idea!

Those are cute, but if I had those all over my house it would just start to look cluttered. Especially since all of them are pretty much shadowboxes.

Do a couple shadow boxes for one wall, then make the rest of your memories into actual scrapbooks that can be stored neatly away. That’s what I would do at least.

I wish I could say just like Darcy, but I don’t have the talent for that. It does give me some good ideas, though, so thanks so much for the eye candy!

Those are amazing!! I love to scrapbook and have gotten pretty good at doing flat, but I might need to branch out and shoot for some 3-d Shadow Box type action! Thanks for the inspiration!

I am seriously impressed. I wonder if all of those pieces are on display in her home or if she keeps many tucked away and rotates!

Those are really cool. I’m the worst about scrapbooking! Actually, my mom just volunteered to put together our wedding scrapbook and I decided to let her. If I leave it up to me, I’ll never do it!

Meanwhile us guys want to be Rik-Rok star missionaries caught up in Indiana Jones type adventures in jungle locations, fighting off slave traders and wild beasts, wondering if a cape and mask is proper jungle apparel. ,
