Mrs. Lamb's Picture
Mrs. Lamb, Norfolk Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student Engagement Date: January 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
About Mrs. Lamb

Soon to Be R

September 25th, 2009 @ 3:19 pm by Mrs. Lamb

We didn’t have a venue until 2 months ago, but we sure did have a crapload of monograms! As if I had nothing better to do in the spring (hmm… like writing my thesis???), I cranked these bad boys out like they were going out of style. It was some productive procrastination, because I then had a slew of choices. I even slaved over each one to make them generic so I don’t get real life wedding crashers (not funny like the movie, but creepy like the paparazzi at Tom and Gisele’s wedding! – Actually, having paparazzi at our  wedding would be fun and I probably wouldn’t mind them, but I digress).

1-4: These are all the same curly large monogram with slight variations as far as shape and layout.

Soon to Be R : wedding stationery Monogra

5-7: These are the same font “R” with different color schemes and layouts.

Soon to Be R : wedding stationery Mongram

8-11: These are the off-the-wall ones that I liked, but were different.

Soon to Be R : wedding stationery Mongram01

Now, 8 is the only one that doesn’t use the “R” initial. I’ve read several places that you’re not supposed to use your married initial until after the ceremony, so the 8 version is one we could actually use on invitations and during the ceremony.

But I really the love the R – partly because it joins my Lambie Love to myself in more ways than one. The obvious way is that it will start our last name (my new name!), and the less obvious is that my woolster and I will share the same initials. JMR and MJR forever!

Love one? Hate one? Which is your favorite? Did you break custom and use your married initial before the ceremony?

***Note: I made these using PowerPoint. To save them as a picture, I grouped the components, then right clicked to save as a picture. I had to change the file type a few times to figure out a file type that preserved my colors and layout - I ended up saving them as png files. Maybe there’s a better tutorial out there? Anyone?

Crickets.

Anyone? ***

I think 8’s my fave — but maybe that’s ’cause I didn’t change my name?

I really like #3 … it makes me happy to see the names in the curlycue of the R and then the circle really brings it together!

Love them. Wish I was that talented/creative.

My advice is not waiting until after the wedding to use them. The day is about you and therefore so is the monogram. My fiancee and I mostly paid for our wedding so I felt it was ok for us to send an invite with our monogram as it was coming from us. Monograms are so pretty especially that R. So I say dont worry about it and use it. Its not like the etiquette fairy is going to come down and smite you. Thats really a grey area so I say go for it.

All of them are soooo good! I, too, made them in powerpoint. Mine turned out fine. I think 8 & 10 are my least favorite, (they’re good-but not really what I like)

I have at least 10 monograms done already…and I don’t even have a date set…but it’s pretty much the only thing that won’t change, so I count it as progress.

We loved our monogram, but decided not to use it before the actual day of the wedding. So, it was on the Shuttle Bus, on our ceremony invites, on the coasters at the cocktail hour, and on the dance floor. I loved our invitations without a monogram, so I’m glad I didn’t use it there.

That script R is so fun though! Great Font!

3, 8 and 9 are my favorites! We thought of using the Mr’s last name initial, but then I felt like it excluded me and my family and I didn’t want to jinx anything. I can’t wait to use it after the wedding though! YAY! What fonts did you use?

I love #’s 3 and 8! Fabulous job.. I’ve been trying to convince FI to make us one (I have it pictured in my head and it’s perfect) since he’s an illustrator whiz supposedly, but he thinks he’ll mess it up. So Kudo’s to you for making some awesome monograms!

I just had to thank you sooo much for this post, because reading it made me realize that MY mr. and I will share the EXACT SAME initials as you and Mr. Lamma-ramma-ding-dong! I’m a soon-to-be JMR and he’s MJR!! :-D love it!

I like 3, 5, and 11. 3 is my favorite, because the circular outline echoes the curly-cues in the script and it’s very clean.

I might also like 9 and 10, with a little tweaking. For 9, I would square up the names and date. For 10, the first names are really uneven across the large letter. Overall those two seem very structured, so the uneven placement seems accidental and sloppy.
