We're young, driven and madly in love. Together we're pursuing our wildest dreams including our biggest undertaking yet, a vintage retrospective wedding filled to the brim with DIY madness. About Mrs. Lightning

When Lightning Strikes: Setting the Scene : wedding pictures recap Venue (Photo by lovely bridesmaid N… I’ll return to that little centerpiece in another post)

Before I share our wonderful portraits in all their vintage glory, I thought it best to start at the beginning…

On the morning of the wedding I was still making name cards. A lot had gone wrong during the days that lead up to the Saturday and so I was left with this last mammoth task on the morning of - even though I swore I wouldn’t let this happen (best laid plans, as they say). Anyways, by 9AM I had them done and we were off to the venue to place the paper goods and flowers on all the tables.

When Lightning Strikes: Setting the Scene : wedding pictures recap Bs 62 In the last week before the weekend, I found gray glass vases and candle holders at a huge housewares sale (candle holders were approximately $2.50 each and the vases - which were actually candle holders which I turned upside down to discover they could be used to hold flowers - were approximately $2 each).

I filled each vase with two dark black lilies and a sprig of beautifully fragrant freesias. To finish it off, I popped in a table number flag which I made with a dowel and paper a few days before.

With the tables so small we decided to keep things simple and use these throughout. I was sad to let some of the other centerpiece projects go, but this simpler option minimised the time I needed to spend at the venue to set up and didn’t overpower the small restaurant tables. The result, however, made me really happy, and was able to do the venue justice.

We finished the venue setup just before 12PM and raced home to meet the other bridesmaids, where it seems the madness had already begun…

Your centerpieces turned out really pretty. How different to use those dark lillies. I thought using my green ones were different.

I love your centerpieces, Lightning. Even if they weren’t as elaborate as you may have imagined them to be, it reminds us that simple is beautiful : ) And is that a teeny cake? So cute!

The black calas look great! I’ve always had such a hard time imagining them as a wedding flower, but they look really great in the gray vases with all of the white!
