Mrs. Dachshund, Fresno, CA Age and Occupation: 24, Legal Office Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Computer Technician Engagement Date: April 18, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Victorian Gardens of Two Sisters About Me: I’m a 24-year-old Californian bride-to-be who found love in the most unlikely of places - an online video game! I’m a farmer’s daughter living in rural Central California, but will always have a special place in my heart for the city. My future husband is a 27-year-old extraordinarily tall, exceptionally cute, and undoubtedly Canadian boy who was able to sweep me off my feet and take me for his bride. I love color, folksy songs that make me smile, interior design, kettle corn, my one-year-old puppy, Juno, and my fiance, of course! We’re planning a DIY garden wedding with a laundry-list of projects, all while dealing with the bureaucracy that is American Immigration!

Like a Kid on Christmas Morning!

September 28th, 2009 @ 11:30 am by Mrs. Dachshund

I am now the proud owner of…

Like a Kid on Christmas Morning! : wedding crafts diy save the dates 1 1

A Cricut Expression complete with the Sure Cuts A Lot program!!

I bought it the other night on a whim with no project in particular in mind. While it may not have been the wisest purchase, (especially when I have to pay a $260 dollar speeding ticket next month), I was SO EXCITED to get it home and start cutting. I’d only heard great things about the Cricut, and I was sold.

On my drive home I tried to come up with a worthy first Cricut project and I decided it would be the perfect tool to make our Save The Dates. After all, I had seen some pretty adorable STDs made using a Cricut!

Finding inspiration in Mrs. Cupcake’s cut-out invitations, I came up with a design for our save the dates that I really ended up liking!

Like a Kid on Christmas Morning! : wedding crafts diy save the dates 223 2
(Tutorial coming soon!)

This is four pieces of paper all together. The design itself is cut from the top sheet with scrapbook paper behind the date and regular ol’ inkjet paper behind the cute little window. I ran it all through my handy-dandy Xyron and sandwiched it all together with a solid piece of cardstock on the back (that I also cut with the Cricut… it’s great for accuracy!).

The top portion is intentionally left empty for an extra addition that’s in the works. I can’t wait to show them to you once they’re finished; they’ll be so adorable you’ll proooobably explode!

When they’re all ready to be shipped off, they’ll be placed in these super cute envelopes from PaperSource:

Like a Kid on Christmas Morning! : wedding crafts diy save the dates 33 Envelope

With an equally cute, but yet-to-be-designed, address label.

I’m pretty excited about them. They’ll be the first wedding idea that I’ve come up with that I’m not changing! I can’t wait to see what they’ll look like fully assembled and to get them sent off to our guests, hopefully by mid-late October.

So, what about all of you? Were any of your wedding projects inspired by a fancy-schmancy-crafty gadget?

I must be so pathetic. I bought a cuttlebug and a cricuit when I first got engaged. I even bought accessories. I’ve played with the cuttlebug, but alas, the cricuit is still sitting in its unopened box in the living room.

Has anyone had any experience with the non-Provo Craft program to create more complex designs? I think it uses vector graphics from illustrator.

@iswimibikeirun: You can use any program that saves as an .SVG (scalable vector graphic) file. I’ll be posting a tutorial on how I used Illustrator in conjunction with SCAL soon!

Yuppers… we used the wedding to justify a cricut as well - being inspired by all the bees.

I use a program called Inkscape (free download) to create the SVG files used by Sure Cuts A Lot. Learning a bit about inkscape really helped.. I used it to create our own maps. The tutorials you can find for illustrator will work almost the same for inkscape - both programs have similar commands.

@Mrs. Espresso: Think about everything you can use it for in the future! Christmas cards, birthday cards and invitations, personalized stationery… baby announcements : ) In the long run, it’ll save you money!
