My First Etsy Purchase

September 28th, 2009 @ 11:06 am by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

Yay! I took the plunge and bought something from Etsy! So far everything has been great. Here’s how it all went down:

I was stalking my blue shoes on eBay, and counting down the minutes until the sale ended, but they went for $710, and that was WAY out of my budget. However, I was feeling the need to make some sort of purchase, albeit one with a much lower price tag. I headed over to Etsy to dig through the hundreds and hundreds of invitations they had, and came across one I loved! What’s funny is that the seller is actually in Texas, too! She’s a mom with an adorable daughter, and she makes some extra money by creating and selling things on Etsy (I learned all this from her blog; she and I didn’t have a heart to heart convo). Anyway, her prices are so reasonable, and she is willing to change any colors, fonts, etc. to match your wedding. So, I purchased a sample invitation with the hopes of then purchasing the rest from her. She said she would even make the sample with all my info so I could really see what it would look like. Great!! So, who you ask, is this great seller? Well, I don’t know her name, but her store is everydaygrace and here are the lovely invites (they still need to be changed to match our colors):

Gorgeous, right?

Are you working with an independant stationer? Who are they and are you pleased with your experience?

Those invites are so pretty! Can’t wait to see them in your colors.

I’ll be making my own stationery, but I did recently make my first Etsy purchase! I’ll admit that I was a little excited about it :D

PLEASE, PLEASE make sure you get a sample IN YOUR COLORS, and not just a PDF to approve.
My daughter is dealing with invites that came out TOTALLY different than what she expected (purple, instead of blue) and the vendor will not send out color samples, even IF we pay for the reprint.

So totally disappointing, since we already DIY’d the map and bought cardstock based on her (primarily) blue color scheme.

Super cute! We worked with a family friend who is a printer, which was good and bad. Sometimes Friendors are so hard, I always felt like I was hurting his feelings since I changed my mind about the invites about 1000000 times!

I used Etsy for my invitations as well. LOVE them! Everyone thought they were ridiculously cute. (They even customated the cartoon couple to look like us!) This isn’t our customized invite, but the one that is on etsy.

My “independent” stationer is my MOH who is a graphic designer. Sometimes I get nervous about mixing business with pleasure, but I like the designs she’s already done, plus she’s willing to give me her expertise at cost. I had a “trial run” with her by asking her to do invites for a surprise birthday party for my Mom - they turned out great and I/she got tons of compliments! So hopefully it will all go well :)

Great find though, especially considering how many options there are to sift through
