Mrs. Green Tea's Picture
Mrs. Green Tea, Sacramento Age and Occupation: 30, Tea Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Coffee Critic Engagement Date: November 17, 2006 Wedding Date: August 23, 2008 Blogging Since: June 10, 2008 Venue: Vineyard on the Delta About Me: I'm just your average obsessive compulsive, arts & crafts loving, funky-on-the-inside/boring-on-the-outside girl, who dares to say 'Hey! I can make that!' Nerdy professional by day, goofy won-ton by night. The won-ton sometimes comes out during the day when I'm fed the dollar breakfast at Ikea. Since our engagement, wedding planning has put me on high alert for bargains and I've been pushing my nimble fingers through callous building experiments!
About Mrs. Green Tea

I am throwing a bridal shower for MOH-Ho and it is freaking me out! I did accomplish one thing, though not without huge assembly help from MOH-Ho and her momma - the shower invites:

1

MOH-Ho is a big time baker (she’s the mastermind behind our wedding cupcakes) so she’s getting a ’Sugar Spice Nice’ themed dessert shower. The 3-page invite includes the basic invite on the front (sugar), details & RSVP info in the middle (spice), and a blank recipe card on the last for guests to share their favorite recipe with the bride (nice).

The linen texture strips of increasing lengths are aligned on the left side and sewn together with matching thread…

to give this staggering effect on the right:

The envelope is folded from pastel pink vellum and sewn shut. The invite info is covered by a matching address label.

I originally wanted the seal to be done with an off white linen ribbon matching the paper texture, but I wasn’t sure it would hold up in the mail. Sewing it shut was a practical alternative, and it turns out to have a cleaner feel, which I like.

The finished product:

Like MOH-Ho’s wedding invitations, this set is also printed on a single piece of cardstock. Included are the 3 strips, address label, plus a couple extra matching small labels/tags:

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THIS TEMPLATE

Also like MOH-Ho’s wedding invitations, matching thank-yous will follow. :)

NOTES:

  1. Cut 10″ x 7″ piece of vellum
  2. Score and fold in at solid red lines (the 2 shorter folds first, then the middle)
  3. Insert invite
  4. Sew shut at dotted line right above top edge of invite

Planning this sweet shindig has been difficult for me for a lot of reasons. I’ve never attended a bridal shower before, I’m doing this long distance, and my summer field assignment has kept me super busy and exhausted, Plus I’m nervous that it won’t be good enough for her friends and family (I’m not around women much!). Fortunately, MOH-Ho has been very supportive and forgiving about my shortcomings. While I feel bad that she has to work on her own shower, I really couldn’t do it without her!

Would you mind helping with your own shower?

oh yet another inspiration to use my sewing machine!!! the invites look really really pretty! congrats on the project. and YES, i would help out with my own shower, although my sister has a mind of her own and would like to take on the entire challenge. she feels as though it would be weird to ask. i would not mind in a heartbeat if she asked otherwise.

Please DO NOT EVER feel like these are not up to par. These are by far the coolest, most complex bridal shower invites I have ever seen. I mean, you sewed the envelopes shut for crying out loud! You deserve a badge or something…

These are amazing and I looove the envelope!!

Would you mind sharing with us the text that is on the spice page?? I know that you’re obviously doing a sugar, spice, nice theme, but are you asking them to only bring kitchen items, how did you ask them to fill in the recipe card, etc.

Thanks!!

@fiftyfootbride: home printed with borrowed color laser printer.
@Miss Designer: i actually have very little love for pink, but MOH-Ho’s fav colors are purple and pink and purple was already her wedding color.
@tenmylove: well… i DESIGNED the ’sewing seal’, it was really MOH-Ho’s momma who did the real work of implementation. my sorry behind was too busy.
@kmattso2: it reads:
“(almost) endless desserts will be served at the shower, so bring your sweet tooth.

a pampered chef® rep will join us and MOH-Ho will get to pick out all the bake/cookware she has ever dreamed of for us to shower her with.

we’d love to see you come celebrate with us in pink!”

at the bottom i added my contact info for rsvp.

and next to the recipe card i put in:
“bring your favorite recipe for MOH-Ho to keep!”

and thanks fo’ da luv, everybody!

These are presh! I’m throwing a shower for my MOH and its going to be an older, church lady crowd. I wanted to have a fun theme, but couldn’t think of something that would be fun for the oldies…this is perfect! Mind if I steal your idea?! What kind of favors are you thinking?

Did I mention that these are awesome?! I am in awe of how cute these are!

@ktbabe: i’m always delighted to see my ideas used (hence the template). i’m DIY-ing vanilla extract and vanilla sugar for the shower to carry out the theme. i’ll be doing a post on that later.
@Miss Pinot Grigio: i don’t remember the name and i can’t look it up (i’m working away from home). sorry!
@CrstnBeach: the word doc i did for the purple invite template was cumbersome and i don’t think efficient at all, so i didn’t do another. but if that’s the route you wanna take, you can still download the old one and use it, just move the text boxes around (which you had to do with the purple invites anyway to line them up) hth!
