Miss Frozen Yogurt's Picture
Miss Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

Statement Necklace

September 29th, 2009 @ 2:09 pm by Miss Frozen Yogurt

Statement necklaces are everywhere, and I love them. I even stopped a lady in the bathroom the other day to tell her that I loved her necklace. I don’t know if I’m brave enough to wear one with my wedding dress, but I saw that this bride did on Southern Weddings, and it looked great!

And then I started to think maybe I could get one for each of my bridesmaids to wear as one of their gifts.

Here are some that I love:

These are from Anthropologie:

These are from J.Crew:

I haven’t even begun to look on Etsy yet, but I’m sure there would be plenty there too. My one fear is that this is a big trend, and who knows if I’ll still love a statement necklace come April. Hmm…

Are you considering a statement necklace for your wedding day? What does it look like?

I never really thought of them as a trend either - think it’s more of a personal style thing. I inherited a ton of vintage fashion jewelry which included some statement necklaces. I’ve worn them constantly for the last.. six years? eep!

The necklaces you picked out are gorgeous. I’ve seen the last style on etsy in a multitude of colors too.

I love statement necklaces. I think they’re just the necklace equivalent of a big ol’ cocktail ring!!

I really have been town about wearing a statement necklace, ever since I saw this one: http://www.stylemepretty.com/2009/06/11/diy-project-pearl-necklace/

One of my friends said she’d make it for me, but now I’m worried it’ll overpower my dress… which I do NOT want–especially since with a birdcage veil it’s kind of a lot goin’ on up around my face! My fiance, his mom and a couple of other people have all said they think it’ll be too much. So we’ll see. :-) Maybe I’ll do a single strand of pearls. or one pearl, on a string. I think if your necklace choice goes well with your dress, go for it!

I wore a statement necklace on my wedding day! I’m not even a “necklace girl” but I’m so glad I did…..I got more compliments on it than anything else. I say go for it, girls!

That is my wedding dress! But I am planning on wearing an illusion pearl necklace like this:

Now I’m kind of having second thoughts, that girl has mad style.

@Brianalaura: I think that bride looks great too! But wear what you feel comfortable with, or hey, buy both and try them on with your dress and see what you think. :)

I think it’s a lovely look, as long as you keep the rest of your look simple. I especially love the first Anthro one.

I’m not brave enough to wear a necklace that makes a bold statement, although I LOVE them! Also, I have to give some love to the picture of the bride from Southern Weddings because that picture was taken at my venue!!

Just a little info: first off: I love this trend!!!! I actually own the third anthro necklace and the first j. crew… the anthro necklace that I own is more of a choker, this may or may not work for your ladies!!!

I’m having a statement necklace! It’s the Roberta Chiarella Charlotte’s Web necklace - I saw it in a magzine and KNEW it had to be mine!

I did this! My bridesmaids had turquoise statement necklaces (that I found at New York & Co, of all places!) and I loved how they ended up looking. You can see a picture (sort of) here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/19288206@N00/3918342701/in/set-72157622364860874/

I never knew the “statement necklace” was a trend. I have a tendency to wear bold jewelry. I love all of the above and yes on the bridesmaids. They can be awesome for in that statement but I have lean towards a classic look on a bride.

those are way too bulky and trendy for me. I’d stick with something classier. A single strand of pearls is always a good choice.

I love statement necklaces too! Just be careful if they’re heavy because sometimes they break easily. I’ve bought two from Antrho- one broke the first day I wore it (just walking) and the other after I’d worn it a couple times. It doesn’t keep me from going back :) But I just thought I’d let you know in case one breaks on one of the bridesmaids and then she doesn’t have one

I love bold jewelry!! I won’t be wearing any for the wedding, but I do wear statement pieces in my daily wardrobe. I’m a giant & I feel dainty pieces get lost w/ my proportions :)

This is such a great trend - I recently pick up a great piece from FloweringIvy Designs. Everything is custom and so well done (and look great in photos).

I would say buy one you love that you can wear again. That way if you decide not to wear it for the wedding you can still wear it for other occasions in the future and you won’t feel guilt about buying it!
