If you remember some time ago, I made these felt flowers to use on my girls’ gifts, and I actually changed my mind so many times about how to make what I’m about to show you!

Okay girls, the flower is all you’re allowed to see…
(If you’re one of my BMs DO NOT read on, Please!! Si eres una de mis damas NO LEAN este post, por favor!!)
I started this project about four months a go, but the main reason why I couldn’t finish was because I was questioning if they would like them or if they’d use them at all. I wanted to give them something they would not use at our wedding, because I’m already giving them the dresses as my gifts for the day.
So I though about handbags. I’ve made handbags before, but just for myself. Making something for someone else is totally different (in my head) because I know exactly how I want things, but even though I know my girls’ tastes, I have no idea what kinds of shapes they’ll each like for their own handbags.
SO I decided to play it safe with simple shapes, a soft gray color (with purple fabric on the inside that has some silver sparkles), a detachable pin (in case they don’t like it), and with a zipper and pockets. Who doesn’t love pockets and zippers, right?

{ Fabric close up }

{ Ironing the inner lining and the folds to make the sewing part easier }
I started cutting the squares for all the parts I already drew in my notebook with an approximate height and width,. Then I ironed all the pieces and shaped the holder straps and inner pockets, so that the sewing would go a little more smoothly.

{ Sewing the straps }

{ Attaching the straps to the main piece }

{ A little detail on the left, and pinning the inner fabric on the right }
Since I didn’t have labels or anything fancy to attach on the inside, I engraved my name on a big clear heart and attached it with purple ribbon so my BMs will remember that I love them!

{ Inner pocket }
And here is the final product!

For the other bags, I slightly changed the sizes of the bottoms so that they didn’t turn out as square.
Because I’m calling it a day in the sewing department, this is my work so far:

I just need to finish the details on the other 3 handbags, and I’m ready.
But now I wonder: will this be enough of a gift? Or do I need to buy something else for them, maybe something to fill the bags with?
Can you girls (and boys) help me? Do you feel this is a good-as-it-is gift? Or do I need to think of extra goodies to complete their presents?
