Sparkling in the Spotlight

September 30th, 2009 @ 6:08 pm by Mrs. Star

Like many other brides before me, I just love the look of a sparkler send-off. I love the drama (of course!), and it makes for such a perfect end to a classy, city light-filled wedding.

So I bought some sparklers off of eBay. But they looked pretty drab, in all their gray loveliness, so I made cutesy little tags to accompany them:

And then I tied the darling little tags on with purple ribbon left over from another project:

And took a yellow metal bin that I had been storing toys for my sisters in, threw the toys in a drawer, and painted it black.

The end result was this:

This is just another quick DIY project that I’ve been busy whipping up in the final days before our wedding! Don’t worry, there are plenty of lighters tucked in the back of the bin. ;)

What are your send-off plans?

Awesome DIY…and it seems so doable!

I LOVE the sparkler send off idea…sadly, with our daytime wedding, sparklers just won’t have the same impact. We’re thinking maybe ribbon wands…in our colors of orange & green. Hopefully that will stand out against a (God willing) clear blue sky.

we did sparklers - the LONG ones … but the photographer really did a bad job taking the pictures :(

So cute!! I wish we could do sparklers, but my parents are convinced that everyone will set themselves on fire in a drunken haze. Oh ye of little faith.

Make sure the people stand far enough apart! My guests didn’t exactly get the memo that it wasn’t supposed to be in the outdoor hallway, and the pictures look like everything is on fire! People got burnt… oops.

I love your little tags!! We’re having a daytime wedding, so this wouldn’t be as successful- but I’d love to do this! :)

I love this idea, but I can’t help but wonder if sparklers don’t come with tags of any kind as a fire prevention… I’d be a little nervous about a spark cathing the tags! Sorry!

@CEO528: I’m hoping our guests know to take the tags off before they light the sparklers — especially since the ribbon is holding two sparklers together!

Love this great little DIY project. I’m trying to see if we can do sparklers but my guess is not at our venue and I doubt they would want it outdoors as well. they do look so darn pretty.

cute idea, but i could just see my venue saying absolutely not. its a historical inn.

ps. are these safe with the tags?

Ditto what JohnsBride09 said. We had these as our exit at my first wedding and unfortunately people didn’t stand far enough apart so a few guests got little burn holes in their outfits as a result of sparklers held by the people next to them. Pretty but dangerous!

i tied red/white/blue ribbons on ours and placed them in a brown kraft paper carrier with a subtle stars & stripes design for our 4th of July wedding

yours are cute! no polka dots? ;)

I definitely want to do this for our send off, i was thinking of putting them in wrappers which served as place cards. But I have long while to go yet, things could change!

So pretty - but our venue wouldn’t let us have them. We didn’t really do anything else to replace it though.

Our venue doesn’t allow the sparklers… so sad. We’re thinking of maybe doing the ribbon wavers…

Your send off was beautiful!!!

No sparklers for us either…my mom is also concerned about people setting each other on fire (a couple of groomsmen in particular :-/ )

It’ll look great! Love the tags.

That’s awesome! It turned out great!! I love sparklers, but I’m not sure if I’d trust some guests haha. I love the streamers though. That’s what I want to do

I LOVE the sparkler look and want it BUT I’ve had a slew of people, from photographers to dress shops tell me that it’s a really bad idea to use them because they make small pin holes in your dress thay may not be discovered until later. Don’t know the truth, but just an FYI- I’ve heard it from multiple bridal sources.

Sparklers always look great in photos! I haven’t been to a wedding yet where they used them, but they’ll be awesome. At our wedding, we were some of the last people to leave, so we didn’t really have a grand exit!

You might want to check to see if it’s legal to set off sparklers in NYC. I thought that all fireworks were illegal in NYC. I wouldn’t want you to get a ticket on your wedding day naybe they have special permits?
