About Me: I’m your average computer geek marrying a gaming geek and trying to find a good balance of elegance and geek chic in our wedding. I adore The Sims, Nintendo, cosplay, (good) music, TiVo, theme parks, and our two crazy felines.
Previously: Paris
Early in the morning of Monday, June 8, our train arrived in Milan. From there, we caught another train to Como. In Como, we had to take a bus to Bellagio. I wasn’t sure where to buy bus tickets, so I tried the train ticket line. The woman at the window didn’t speak English, but, luckily, a woman next to me offered to translate, so that I wouldn’t have to dig out my phrase book. I learned that bus tickets are bought in tobacco shops. Of course.
Bus tickets in hand, we wait. About 45 minutes to an hour later, our bus finally arrives. We then endure an hour long bus ride on the narrowest streets that could ever exist. The bus had to honk around every curve to warn oncoming traffic that a giant bus would demolish them if they tried to continue driving. There were times when I had no idea how we didn’t scrape against another vehicle.
We finally arrived in the town of Bellagio. It is a cute little town with lots of cobblestone stairways and few real roads. It is located right on the lake, at the intersection of the three branches. (And for those of you who didn’t know, the wedding scene in Star Wars, Episode II was filmed somewhere on the lake [not Bellagio].)

Mrs. Ramen, Phoenix
Age and Occupation: 26, Optometry Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Industrial Designer
Engagement Date: January 3, 2009
Wedding Date: December 19, 2009
Venue: Phoenix Art Museum
About Me: I'm an SF-born, Seattle-raised girl, transplanted to Phoenix where I'll be getting married, and planning all the way from Orange County where I go to school (yes, it feels as crazy as it sounds). I loooooove Yogurtland, am slightly very obsessed with all things paper, am heavily addicted to wedding blogs, deeply desire a puppy, thoroughly enjoy cooking, cry when I watch (almost all) movies, thrive on solo car-karaoke, can't stop being sarcastic, am neurotic about taking pictures of almost everything I eat before I eat it, and aspire to travel the world. My super-talented fiance and I are attempting to DIY a majority of our massive (~350 guests) "clean & modern, yet romantic, but completely unexpected, with a teeny dash of vintage" wedding, stay within our not-so-massive budget, and somehow get a really luxe (but still fun!) look/feel at the same time. In music terms (since we're both really into music) think Coldplay meets Motown meets Kanye meets Sinatra.

Lately I’ve been finding myself SO caught up with wedding stuff, work (I work for a department office at my school), and school, that I never get around to working out.
Now, I’m not the kind of girl that will starve herself. For anything. Especially not a dress. My dress already fits me, but I’m also not the most naturally slim chick, either. I’ve always been athletic, and need to regularly exercise to stay toned (and sane).
So, instead of depriving myself of food, I’ve made a few lifestyle changes…

Engagement Date: May 20, 2009
Wedding Date: November 2009
Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church (LaCoste, TX) and Mary Gray Events Center (Castroville, TX)
About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, but after college I moved to Seattle for a couple of years and loved it. Then I followed my beau out here to LA and we're getting settled in. I've been making things since I can remember. I was raised by crafters. I love to sew, draw, paint, build, cook, bake (anything with a tangible end result is fair game). In that same spirit, I've been hosting since I was old enough to cook and set a fancy table. I kind of take after my grandmother, who believes that your morning OJ always tastes better out of the good crystal.

My neighbor cut my hair in exchange for some red velvet cupcakes and brownies. I’m a pretty decent baker, and she’s a beauty maven. Fair trade, right? So to jazz up my head at the wedding, I’m looking into birdcage veils.
These first two are from Etsy seller brendasbridalveils.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student

Wedding Date: January 2010
Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House
About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
When I first started reading Weddingbee, I saw a post about palettes. I had been trying to convince myself that a certain palette was the way to go and was about to take an outing to Home Depot to bring some paint chips together. But COLOURlovers saved me the trip. COLOURlovers’ website allows you to customize palettes and patterns. Even if you’re done planning a wedding, it’s great for decorating and for fashion.
I found it a bit difficult to navigate at first. You have to have the most recent version of Internet Explorer (available here) and you have to register in order to save your palette. After the initial set up, the fun began. The palettes and patterns that other users have created are all visible - which is great for inspiration. Check out these lovelies!

Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas
Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader
Engagement Date: March 19, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2010
Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas
About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.
Obviously I’ve posted a lot about what I want and what I’m going to do, and not a whole lot about my better half. I decided to change it up and make sure that both parties are represented here. OK, well, at least for this post. No promises about the future.
I found these amazing rings from Etsy seller Zoe and Doyle, and I asked Mr. Fro Yo which ones he liked, and here are some that he chose:

Wedding Date: January 2010
Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch
About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.

Okay, maybe not this kind of sexy! But I do think feathers are HOT!
Recently I started thinking about two things: what to wear for the boudoir pictures I plan to take for Mr. Poodle, and what to wear for our after party. Since I don’t have those kinds of sexy clothes in my closet, I started to search for ideas.
( This is one of those posts YOU CANNOT read if your name is Mr. Poodle! Muchas gracias amor! )

About Me: I love melty cheese and diet coke almost as much as I love my man. I'm from Chicago, he's from NYC, and we both miss public transit and great pizza. We have an adorable muppet dog called Paco. I'm part hippie with a healthy dash of hip hop superstar, have excessive empathy for animals, and have not one, but two bionic eyes (long story). We're broke and it ain't no joke. It can't stop us from planning the bold and whimsical wedding of our dreams, but we've had to get pretty creative to make it work, yo!
(Psst - if you’re new here, read part 1 and part 2 of the surname saga and then come on back for the conclusion!)
Thank you all so much for your support and amazing feedback about this situation. I’ve loved hearing your thoughts and speculations about our decision, and you’ve been wearing your patient pants, so now it’s time for the big reveal!
In the end, we decided compromise was the best solution. Mr. M still felt it was crucial to honor my name, despite us also honoring his parents’ wishes. He wanted to make a grand gesture to both show me that he was becoming as much a part of my family as I am of his, and to make better the disappointment we had been through before. I am so proud of him for standing up for what he believes in, as well as for doing right by his family (even if I still disagree with their opinion). He wins my heart over and over every day we’re together, delighting me with his thoughtful, loving nature and generous spirit.
So, today I write to you as:

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Engineer and Photographer
Engagement Date: March 2, 2008
Wedding Date: September 2009
Venue: The 19th Century Club
About Me: My fiance and I love living in the city of Chicago with our cats Basil and Linus, and vow to never move to the suburbs if we can possibly avoid it! We’ve poured ourselves into planning a wedding that reflects our personal style - modern and high contrast with a vintage twist. Blogging keeps me creative, baking keeps me happy, and grande nonfat no foam sugar free vanilla lattes keep me sane.
Like the many Bees who have gone before me (think Mrs. D’orsay and Mrs. Spring Roll), I have opted to make tissue paper pomanders to decorate our ceremony site!
I had been searching high and low for options that would look great, be non-fussy, and affordable. I started seeing these pomanders pop up on Weddingbee and on other sites, so when I came across these instructions and saw how simple it looked, I picked up the supplies to make a couple of pomanders (I waited to buy all of the styrofoam balls until I was sure I wanted to make a lot of these).
I opted for 4-inch Styrofoam balls, and would guess that it took anywhere from 15-20 flowers for each pomander. And, better yet, Mr. S got in on the flower making action and helped me make some!

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Computer Programmer
Engagement Date: November 15, 2008
Wedding Date: April 2010
Venue: A farm outside of Houston
About Me: Mr. Chick and I met almost ten years ago at Baker Blues, a college jazz party. He was attracted to my intensity, and I was mesmerized by his trivia pursuit skills and his dorm furniture adorned with his initials. We've grown more sophisticated through the years, with our love of wine, owning a house together, and parenthood (of a cat), but we have not lost our silliness or childish sense of humor!
Thanks to awesome readers from this post, Mr. Chick and I had more of an idea of what kind of suit and which designers he could try. We went to Brooks Brothers to try on the Black Fleece line, Burberry, and Saks 5th Avenue. Just to try things on, of course! I’m (mostly) a smart shopper, so I want to wait for sales/coupons. Maybe around Christmas time we can go out and purchase something…
First, we went to Brooks Brothers, of course.
Mr. Chick tried on a light gray suit:

About Me: I am a North Carolina girl with a New York City spirit. I love crafting, blogging, laughing and dreaming. I know every word to the Anne of Green Gables and Little Women movies. I own every single Martha Stewart Wedding Magazine and have been dreaming of weddings since I was little. I believe life is about doing what makes you happy. If you aren't happy re-evaluate what you are doing. You should never look back on your life and not be proud of what you are doing. If you want to travel - travel. If you want to sing - sing. If you want to start a company - start a company. If you want to blog – blog!
Once we picked the girls’ dresses, I knew that I wanted them to have headpieces. I battled with the headpieces, finding SOOO many that I loved on Etsy and online. I was willing to spend the money to buy them. I thought the time it would take me to make them would be too much to handle.
But then I made the mistake of going to the trim shop (living in NYC is a luxury for this reason… there are amazing trim shops all around). I walked into the trim store and found these gorgeous ribbon flowers. And they even had the exact navy that our bridesmaids’ dresses are. I thought that all navy would be too much, so I looked to see what else I could find. I found a really nice gray and decided to get that, too. And then I got to work on these DIY headbands.

I loosely followed instructions I found on The Knot. I used a $5 bouquet of mums from Trader Joe’s… I really wish we had those in Texas.
Mums have a lot of leaves and small flowers down at the bottom, so you’ve got to start by stripping all of that away. But keep the little flowers handy.
