I’ve seen so many wedding maps that are so adorable!! I don’t know if I could include them with the invitations or if I would need to put them on our wedding website, but I love them and really want one of our very own. How cute would it be to see a Dallas map with places that have meaning for us and are all right around the ceremony and reception site? I would love it. We’ll see if I can make one. I’ve bookmarked a few tutorials, so I’m crossing my fingers. Here are several that I love.

Wow, that was stupid.
Mr. Bear Cub and I were out on our weekly super-long Saturday marathon training run (you don’t want to know how many miles), and Mr. Sunshine (not to be confused with Mr. Sunbeam!) decided to peek his little head out of the clouds.
Ladies, we have two weeks until our wedding. I now look like a raccoon.

Sorry to have been a little less active around the hive for the past week or so! Mr. Star and I have been moving apartments and it has taken quite the toll on us, especially with just over a month until the wedding! I definitely lifted some things on moving day that I shouldn’t have (like one end of the air conditioner and some large IKEA pieces) and totally pulled something in my back, too!
We had intended to move in the spring of next year, once wedding fever had died down and things were less crazy, but we have been having a dispute with our landlord over some serious maintenance issues (don’t get me started on how long we’ve been forced to sleep on the couch because of it) and we got him to agree to let us out of the lease before things escalated.
Lucky for us, we got a seriously spiffy new place! We’ve moved from a fourth-floor walkup with a view of the alley, to this:

So, I’m a 2-wedding bride. We had our first ceremony July 25th of this year at Point Dume in Malibu. We’ve lived (or at least have been on leases) together for the past 2 years and always knew we’d get married, just not when. However, upon moving to Los Angeles and being unable to find a job with the same kind of benefits I had in Seattle, or even being accepted for private insurance, it became kind of necessary to get married. (Don’t ask me why a 26 year old female who has run a marathon, rarely drinks and doesn’t smoke can get rejected. Sorry that’s a bit off topic.)
Now, to answer some of the questions that came up after my previous post.
Being legally married before a Catholic ceremony is probably frowned upon in general, but I think there’s a good chance that a reasonable priest will be open to this, and from what I understand, all discretion is left to the priest. I kind of lucked out in this department, because our priest has been a friend of my family since well before I was born and is known to be more ’inclusive’ than some priests. His thoughts on the matter are that it’s good to have people marry in the Church and being overly prohibitive isn’t going to really help anyone. He knows that the two of us aren’t as religious as we could be, but we were both raised in Catholic families and this felt right for us. Being raised Catholic, I had mostly been to Catholic weddings and they always felt like they had more ’weight’ to them. Once we decided to get married, I knew Fr. Paul would be involved.

Way back at the beginning of June, I dropped off my dress for alterations. This weekend, I went back in to visit my dress, check things out, and identify any other changes that might need to be made over the next two weeks.
They had sent it out for cleaning, taken up the hem just a bit, did the bustle, but had held off on adjusting the bust (which was ginormous!) and replacing the defunct zipper (since it was a sample dress). Waiting until the last minute to replace the zipper means that if I gain or lose any weight, when she replaces the zipper she can make adjustments to the fit all in one fell swoop.
Thank goodness for that, because despite all the working out that I’ve been doing, a couple of pounds have decided to plant themselves right on my torso! The dress I could zip myself in to 3 months ago required me to seek assistance this time around. Eek!
It may look like it fits, but I definitely could not fill my lungs. Let’s just say, if I needed to yawn, I would have bust a seam! The seamstress encouraged me to work out between now and then. I shared that I DO work out plenty, but we’re past that point… just let it out a little and we’ll all sleep easier at night!

When I first started planning our wedding, I knew one thing for sure: I was going to make/wrap the bouquet myself. Then somewhere along the line, I changed my mind. I received the name of a local florist who can ’work with any budget’, and started to daydream about how nice it would be to have a professional bouquet ready-made (with no effort from me). But after speaking with the florist, I realized that their version of ’any budget’ was different from mine. To the tune of $50 for five flowers (calla or roses).
So that pretty much made up my mind: I am making my own bouquet!
I have never, ever done any kind of flower arranging before. I’m also kind of a black-thumb, and not very delicate sometimes. Because of this, I decided I ought to give it a preliminary try to make sure it was doable (though at this late date, it is probably pretty much my only option).
I did a little research in Weddingbee’s DIY section, taking advice from the posts of Mrs. Quiche and Mrs. Champagne (great video link!). Then I set out to get my supplies.

This was definitely one of the thousands of things I learn by stalking Weddingbee. Since I’ve attended only two weddings in my life and both of them had someone guiding me to my seat, I had absolutely no idea what a seating chart was until a few months ago.
Now that I’ve been drawn into the wedding waters, I’ve found so many cool/fun seating ideas that I had to share my favorites.
This first one was one of the ones I liked the most, because we wanted to give our guests a tiny bottle of Pisco as a our wedding favors. That way we could share with them a traditional liquor from Chile. But since we want to offer the Pisco Sour at the reception, giving them more Pisco might be too much. I love the idea of mixing the favor with the card, though.

As a slightly neurotic Type A bride, I planned pretty much every minute of our wedding… except for our grand entrance into the reception. Whoops!

Hola hive! Mr. Penguin and I are recovering from the 9 (count ’em) batter dipped, French fried, stick pierced, cinnamon sugar-covered foods we ate at the Minnesota State Fair yesterday, and will be enjoying a wonderful Labor Day in the Midwestern sunshine.

Combined with the lemonade and milkshake we drank, that’s 7 bee characters (past, present, and future) we consumed! Can you spot them?
Posting will be light today, but if you’re around, there are some great posts lined up today! We hope you enjoy the last day of your long weekend!
Thanks to my maid of honor, who swooped in two days ago and came to the rescue, the program fans are now pretty much done! This was an incredibly time consuming process, so I suggest starting it way head of time if you plan on making these.
These are the supplies you will need:

Ladies and gentlemen, I have an announcement to make regarding those coveted blue shoes. But let me start from the beginning.
These Manolo Blahnik shoes are known as something blue, as in, you have to wear them for your wedding, or at least that’s how I took it. I went to the store, saw them in person, and I officially fell in love. Well, I am signed up to receive sales and other announcements from Neiman’s. So a few weeks ago, I got one that made my heart skip a beat: the first mark sale, one day only. It promised savings of at least 30% off nearly everything! I immediately rushed over to their website to see if my blue shoes were a marked down item. They were! But the size? 12.
NO!! I’m a size 6…

I did not intend on partaking in the popular post wedding chop.
I have pretty much always had long hair*, so I wasn’t even trying to grow it out for the wedding. I never considered taking a lot of length off! Not for one minute… until a very bad “trim” lead me to the chop. Let me explain.
I didn’t have time to get a trim after the after the big event, and by August the length was starting to get ridiculous! Here’s a picture of my hair a few weeks before the wedding… you can only imagine the length after three more months!
