I am in the final stages of booking our florist and I couldn’t be more excited! Her name is Kristen and she’s with Haute Floral. I learned about her from my awesome photographer. Anyway, Kristen loves manzanita branches just like I do, which means that we will have them at the wedding!! AND, it won’t just be in one centerpiece, it will be in 5 (and the guestbook, but that’s for a later post)!
On these gorgeous branches we will put sevearal flowers including green orchids:
One year ago today, an unassuming e-mail from Mr. Dachshund happened to be signed with, “I’ve got a crazy question for you… want to be my girlfriend?” Mr. D and I met in an online video game that we both played, started “dating” before having met in person, and by the end of his first visit I knew that he the one.
Then he went home.
Three months went by before our next visit. Two months before the visit after that, then another two. It’s been a month and a half since I’ve seen him last, and although an end to this madness is in sight, the distance between us is sometimes unbearable.
We’ve only been “together” for 35 days of our first year together. Meeting and falling in love with Mr. Dachshund has made this past year the best of my life, but it’s been bittersweet. Our days together are amazing, but saying goodbye is always difficult. Missing him has led to more tears than all of my past failed relationships combined. There are days when I have a hard time going about my routine because I miss him so much—days when I wonder how it’s fair that our life together is put on hold because he lives in another country.
And then, on those nights when I’m lying in bed, having cried every last tear, longing for the comfort of Mr. Dachshund next to me, I can’t help but wish that I didn’t have to go through this—that “the one” lived here and not one-thousand miles away. Absence makes the heart ache, not grow fonder… old proverb my ass!

We didn’t have a venue until 2 months ago, but we sure did have a crapload of monograms! As if I had nothing better to do in the spring (hmm… like writing my thesis???), I cranked these bad boys out like they were going out of style. It was some productive procrastination, because I then had a slew of choices. I even slaved over each one to make them generic so I don’t get real life wedding crashers (not funny like the movie, but creepy like the paparazzi at Tom and Gisele’s wedding! – Actually, having paparazzi at our wedding would be fun and I probably wouldn’t mind them, but I digress).
1-4: These are all the same curly large monogram with slight variations as far as shape and layout.

The most exciting part about the two FULL days we spent in Montreal, (besides our free breakfast, and happy hour) was going to a museum I’d seen in our travel book. Pointe-à-Callière was just 3 blocks down the street from our hotel. It was nice not to need our car to get somewhere.
I promised recipes for the citrus shower going on this weekend, but the truth is that there aren’t many to report. My co-host is from out of town, and we’ll only have a few hours in the morning to really put everything together. So, rather than stress over cooking, I’m trying to do as much ahead of time, use frozen foods, and set aside tomorrow for only reheats and minor prep. Because a mini-foods theme is so easy (especially if you don’t have a lot of seating around your house!) and don’t require guests to use utensils of any kind, I wanted to share with you how the food is all coming together.
The menu:
Mini Cheeseburgers:
Because dinner rolls are a bit big for mini cheeseburgers, I’m using frozen bread dough and forming my own mini-buns.

MrsLammon is selling her gorgeous Maggie Sottero gown. The “Victoriana” gown is a size 12 and in light gold. She’s asking for $500.

Who needs TV when I have wedding blogs?
While channel-surfing through wedding sites a few months back, I came across some HUGE invitations. I love this idea! According to what I’ve seen so far, here are the makings of the perfect, ginormous wedding invitation:
Sounds doable! I’d love to have one displayed at our wedding for people to sign. Here’s a too-cute example from the hive:

Artwork and a guest book, from Mrs. Coconut!
The poster invitations below are unique and eye-catching:
Apparently everywhere. Is it something in the water? Global warming?
Mr. Ramen and I have entered the twilight zone in life when all of our friends and families are getting married/engaged. Last year, I attended a whopping 8 weddings. This year, we’ve collectively been invited to 7 weddings, not including ours… WHEW! (4 were in the month of August alone!)
In my extended family, one of my cousins has gotten married each year since ’06! (Ours will be the 2nd wedding in ‘09). On top of that, sister/MOH Ramen got engaged 4 months after me and will be getting married in the summer of 2010! (So that’s 2 weddings in my immediate family - in 6 months! yes, my parents are excited, haha.)
I had the extreme privilege of swapping places with my sister (remember, she hid and took pictures of my engagement from afar) and helping surprise her at her engagement back in April - and planned a surprise dessert celebration engagement party later that evening for her and her fiance.

Mr. Joey and I have been together for 5 years and so by now, we’ve met each other’s immediate family and actually are all quite close. We’re really fortunate that we each get along really, really well with our in-laws.
Because all of Mama Joey’s family live in Seattle, Mr. Joey has had the chance to meet and interact with them quite a bit. Unfortunately for us, Mr. Joey’s extended family lives in California, he doesn’t get to see them much. I had never met any of his aunts, uncles or cousins. Thankfully, some of Mr. Joey’s family decided to join us for the wedding, and his cousin Cate even agreed to read during the ceremony.
The rehearsal dinner was a great way for our families to meet each other. Mr. Joey’s immediate family had heard of nutty Sister Joey but had never met her. I had heard stories about Mr. Joey’s cousins, but never met them. Finally, everyone got to meet.

As many of you probably know, Jesi Haack is one of my favorite wedding planners to work with… her designs, personality, and professionalism make her a fabulous find in the wedding industry! I was so excited when she and I were able to work together on Jessica’s wedding! I had the pleasure of getting to know Jessica previously at events at The White Dress in Corona Del Mar. Jessica is a manager there and has had us come and sample our yummy treats for their clients on various occasions. This is a special store for me since it is where I got my fabulous wedding dress a couple years ago. So as you can tell, I was doubly excited to work on this wedding since it was for people I knew! Jesi did an amazing job with the design for the wedding and I thought I would share some words from her blog that described the event…
“When Jessica, manager of The White Dress in CDM, hired me to design and plan her wedding, I squealed at the opportunity! Besides the fact that Jess & Eric are BEAUTIFUL people, they have such a clean, classy, modern style. My favorite part was that Jess gave me FULL reign so my crazy mind was whirling! The only thing they insisted on was having a cocktail party style of event with lots of EATING, DRINKING, and DANCING! We were working with a tight budget, so it was so fun pushing through the challenge and thinking outside the box… and outside the box is my favorite place to be! My AMAZING team created 500+ paper flowers to flood this event with style and sass.”

I’m putting some of our “real wedding” projects on hold because Halloween is so soon, but I don’t want you to think that our actual wedding isn’t the main event!
I thought I’d give you a quick peek at how I’m imagining our wedding day, starting with our colors.
Despite my chronic indecisiveness, choosing the color story for our wedding was a pretty simple task. I knew I wanted colors that would carry through the airy, fun, almost whimsical feeling that I’d like our wedding day to possess. I wanted something modern, but not too “out there”.
I didn’t have to go far to find the inspiration for our color scheme:

In fact, I get to see our colors every day!
Sometimes, I’m a little self-conscious when I wear high heels. My Lambers loves me in heels, and thinks flats look a little like “grandma shoes”. I too love heels, but I also soar to 5’10″ or above when I slip them on. J-Ram? He rocks me hanging off his arm in my high heel glory like sane Tom Cruise used to rock the less Botoxed version of Nicole Kidman. Me, I avoid pictures standing on the same level and prefer taking pics when I’m standing a step below him. Yikes!
This has led to an interesting debate in my head. Should I boost my confidence and own my height by wearing heels? Or should I find a lovely pair of flats and be comfortable (mentally and physically)?
Here are some of the flat options that I have been scouring on the internet:
These babies will keep my tootsies toasty - but will not be good for walking outdoors. They’ll be comfortable for dancing, but maybe not as picturesque.

Okay, so if you know me at all, you know that I am obsessed with Sex and the City, and therefore am in love with Sarah Jessica Parker (or SJP, as I like to call her). Well, this love for has SJP had me lusting after some very gorgeous earrings she wore in the Lovely perfume ad:

I knew that I couldn’t afford those, but I also knew that I needed to have them.
