As you can see from my last post, we spent a lot of time on boats our first couple of days in Newport; however, Newport has other places to experience that don’t require a life vest or cause seasickness. I’ll show you a few that the Mr. and I had a chance to see.
One thing that I failed to mention before was that SIL and BIL Swan were kind enough to give us a little basket of minimoon cheer for our time in Newport. In addition to the sailboat trip we had (and other cute gift basket items), they also gave us a gift certificate for a tour and tasting at Newport Vineyards. Yes, that’s right. While it’s not Napa, Rhody has got its own little wine making area right next to Newport in neighboring Middletown and Portsmouth, Rhode Island. In addition to Newport Vineyards, Greenvale Vineyards is just a short drive from the heart of downtown Newport.
Family photos… we love them. I grew up with 2 parents who were passionate about photography, and who in turn, passed their love onto me. Mr. Espresso has since become enthralled as well—and so we knew we wanted tons of photos on our wedding day… especially with our new families.
Here we are with Mr. Espresso’s family. All family portraits were taken in front of the bed & breakfast.

Do you see what I see?
I see a book I would LOVE to make, but may not have the memory (and patience) to create.
This is a guestbook from a wedding over at Snippet and Ink. The couple saved receipts, ticket stubs, and other memorabilia from their years-long relationship. They used the artifacts to create a lovely book, made even more special with the notes and signatures of their wedding guests!

In my introduction post, I mentioned that Mr. Dachshund and I will have to be legally married before his visa expires, which is about three months from the time he’ll arrive in the US. That left us with two options: making it legal beforehand, or planning our wedding around our immigration time-line. The latter would have been doable if our timing had been better. However, FFIL is working for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver and he’ll be unable to make a trip to California until after April. April is not even close to our three month deadline. We’re stuck with option one.
I’ll admit that I was a little bummed we’d have to be married months before our actual wedding. What would people think if they found out that we had already been married for six months!? Would they assume we were just soliciting gifts? While I knew that couldn’t be further from the truth, I wasn’t sure our guests would understand. Above all, I worried that a civil ceremony would make our wedding less special.
Despite my initial misgivings, I’m a firm supporter of turning life’s lemons into lemonade.
Because there was no way out of it, Mr. D and I thought we’d make the best of our situation and use the opportunity to turn our civil ceremony into something off-the-wall and fun.

Aside from being a general really-awesome-totally-adorable-just-want-to-kiss-him-super-sweet kind of guy (at least in my eyes), Mr. Ramen has been my design slave (I think I’ve mentioned this before… but it’s definitely worth mentioning again). Don’t worry - I treat him well; he is paid in neck/back rubs, homemade dinners, extra cuddling with me while watching heroes (I’m totally missing this new season, boooo), or SYTYCD (again… missing this season).

Like Miss Beagle, I have a really hard time letting people help me out. I guess I think it makes me look weak or like I’m failing to accomplish everything that I had set out to do. Logically, I know it’s silly to feel this way, but I struggle with being able to delegate in actuality.
Well, folks, we’re headed into the home stretch over here at the Star household, and some of my intended craft projects were starting to fall by the wayside. That is, until people started generously stepping up and helping out without me even asking!
At first, I was hesitant because I’m such a control freak. But my options were either 1. don’t have things like rehearsal dinner invites because they’re not necessary and I’m running out of time, or 2. let my fabulous MOH handle them herself, since she so graciously offered.
I am so glad she did, because she did a fabulous job!

I only recently heard about brides and grooms having a private moment together for a last dance while all their guests are waiting to send them off, but I think it sounds so sweet!

I already have my dress. It’s a loooooooooooooooong story, which is most certainly forthcoming. It’s a tear jerker (sad and funny tears all at once!) for sure, and I can’t wait for it hit the prime time, but for now you’ll just have to settle for these dreamy dresses.
If I were ambitious enough to sew my own dress (a la Miss Poodle!), I would promptly buy this pattern:
NanasSewingBasket.Etsy.com is chock full of vintage patterns. Can you imagine this dress in a champagne brocade for a Jackie O inspired cocktail reception? Come to momma, vintage dress!

We were both REALLY REALLY excited for the rehearsal dinner. We had sampled the food beforehand (delicious), checked out the dinner site (stunning) and couldn’t wait to actually talk to all the people taking part in our big day. The week before the wedding was big blur, and we never got time to just talk to all our friends and family who flew in.

Mr. Joey entertaining the crowd.

It’s been almost exactly 2 years since we’ve been married… eek! Back when I was planning my wedding, I knew I wanted to invest in a wedding video, but it was just not in our budget. If I wanted it done, I wanted it done WELL, and professionally! I’ve heard of so many brides regretting not having a videographer because they were so busy that day. Luckily, I had a very generous friend/videographer who offered to film our wedding as long as it didn’t have to be edited. (Editing is the most difficult and the lengthiest part!) I figured I’d get somebody to edit it in a few years since I didn’t need it ASAP. So after our wedding, he gave us a few tapes of our wedding and we let it collect dust for the past 1.5 years…
Until now! I was sincerely hoping there was somebody who would be willing to take up a side project. This is how I found Confetti Films— a company in Canada that I have been emailing and calling back & forth for the past couple months. They were actually referred to me by Still Motion, who I ABSOLUTELY LOVE! They were so sweet in willing to do my project! So here I present to you… the belated Caramel recap wedding video!!
A beautiful day:) from Confetti Films on Vimeo.

If you do a Google search for “Courthouse Wedding”, you’ll come up with links like this and this. The first one has statements like “More than 4 out of 5 marriages that start at the courthouse will end at the courthouse. The courthouse is where you go for a divorce, not a marriage.” That other one paints a really vivid picture: an arguing couple on their way to divorce court, metal detectors, and prisoners in shackles. Both of them are written by ceremony officiants for hire. Surprise, surprise.
You know already that our courthouse wedding vision got off to a rocky start. Namely, it was hard to find a courthouse that would actually marry us on the date we wanted! And a lot of the courthouse-type-people I spoke with on the phone were kinda rude. And Grand Forks County’s weddings are done at the jail. That’s a little too close to the “prisoners” image, which the author admitted was a worst case scenario.
You’ll hear about our ceremony and everything surrounding it soon, but I just wanted to say this:
I would not change anything about it. It was perfect. A perfect, beautiful venue (oh mah gawd, wait till you see the photos!). A wonderful day. A friendly deputy clerk. Our closest loved ones.
My point is that you can (to some extent) control the circumstances under which you get married, even if it’s at a courthouse.

A while back, Mr. Parfait and I met with an amazing photographer from Nashville named hannahelaine. She was kind, talented, and an answer to many hopes and prayers! I wanted (yearned and ached for) engagement pictures but was having trouble convincing Mr. Parfait that it’s perfectly normal, and actually quite common, to take these shots. I wanted a fabulous photographer, but had no idea how to find one. Either divine providence or my addiction to Weddingbee led me to find her name in the ‘bee Classifieds!
We have a zillion pictures together, so I wanted our e-pix to be extraordinary! And thanks to hannahelaine, I believe they were.

It started out as a Monday like any other. Before lunch, the highlight of my day had been the homemade orange-and-almond biscotti that a coworker brought in. But, by the time lunch was over, this Monday had turned out to be the best I can remember! I was slowly working my way through the never-ending mountain of paperwork on my desk (working through lunch; we had a lot to catch up on), when I decided to check my email.
By no means did I expect that email from Pengy to be sitting there in my inbox. But there it was… I crossed my fingers, opened it, and then squealed with delight! A Bee? Me!? I was so, so excited that I told EVERYONE around me (and wished that they knew what a privilege being able to blog for Weddingbee really was).
I tried to get back to work, I really did! But, needless to say, I was so excited that I didn’t get much done for the rest of the day!
Allow me to introduce myself: I’m Miss Dachshund and I’m absolutely thrilled and honored to be here blogging for all of you!
