Aren’t my cousins pretty and handsome? They are so cool and I’m so glad they get along with Mr. Joey. We’re all pretty close.
It’s no secret that dahlias are my favorite flower. Last month, Mr Pretzel IMed me this link. I just about jumped out of my seat! The Snohomish County (where I live) Dahlia Society was hosting the National Show. You might as well have said that Williams Sonoma was having a 99 cent clearance sale.
Needless to say, Mr Pretzel and I went to the show. I… was… in… heaven! I took lots of photos, got some tips from the members on growing my Dahlias and even got a website of a place that sells cut Dahlias. Apparently, the Snohomish County Society was celebrating 100 years of Dahlia shows—the longest running show in the country.
I plan to carry a Dahlia bouquet and use Dahlias at the reception. I emailed the local grower and was sad to find out he isn’t selling cut Dahlias anymore. Apparently selling Dahlia tubers online is more lucrative than selling the flowers. Boo! Still, I have high hopes of finding a local grower to contract with for my blooms.
Mr Pretzel did good. The trip to the show was amazing and I was inspired. Dahlia, Dahlia, Dahlia… je t’adore

The celebration begins. Cheers and applause serenade legallybride and her husband after the ceremony.

Did I ever say that we LOVE Jay-Z? I secretly think Mr. Joey lived in Brooklyn near the Marcy St. subway station because he lived near there once. I have seen Jay-Z worked into his US History lesson plans, too. Hmm…
Anyway, like the song says, after the show it’s the after party, and an after party it was! It wasn’t crazy, but it was the perfect mix of friends and chillaxing we needed.

How do your birth orders affect your relationship? Do you tend to date people of a specific birth order?
Mrs. Hydrangea - Our birth order totally affects us. Mr. H is the middle child and I’m the baby (by FAR, my brothers are 15 and 17 years older then me).
While he’s the middle child, Mr. H took on the more of the eldest child’s role as the family caretaker from a young age. Since his parents sometimes have difficulties with translation, he usually goes with them to the bank, doctor, etc. when it’s something super important. He has always held a good job and done the responsible thing which, at times, held him back from really experiencing life.
I, on the other hand, was just the opposite. My parents helped me with a lot and, if I am in need of advice, I turn to them first. Always. This has been hard for Mr. H as he is not used to relying on his parents for any kind of support, except emotional. I am also spoiled (surprise!) and it’s hard for me to hear “no” sometimes when I’ve pretty much always gotten my way.
All in all, Mr. H has been pretty patient with me, and I’ve learned to adjust to splitting up more of my time when he is helping his family. Again, it’s a balancing act that we are figuring out along the way.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Eh. That was my last attempt at a funny title. So this post will be about the Ramen engagement shoot numero uno. That’s right, we’ve had more than 1. Let me explain.
Remember our photographers? The globe-trotting ones who are insanely busy? Well, since we had this whole long-distance relationship with them, we decided to opt for a day-after shoot instead of an engagement session. This works out perfectly - I’ve always dreamed of a sexy desert-scenery photo shoot with my soon-to-be husband. I think. Eh.
At any rate, I desperately wanted to have a photo book guestbook filled with cute shots of my beloved and me. Why? I dunno. It sort of makes a nice use of your e-pics, right? Call it Wedding-Trend-Syndrome. I have that, bad.
So, Mr. Ramen and I decided to just ask 2 of our good friends to take some shots of us around Phoenix. Then later on, we would have Sister Ramen take some shots in and around SF. All of them armed with fancy-schmancy digital SLRs.
So we chose an altogether too-hot of a day in August to shoot around some places in Mesa and Tempe Town Lake.

These past few weeks have been stressing me out. Everything is going great planning-wise, but it’s this crazy NYC weather! Way back when, we scheduled our engagement shoot - we chose October because usually the weather is crisp and cool, and the days are (mostly) sunny. The mans and I almost had our outfits picked out.
There was just one teeny, tiny problem - the extreme cold and rain we’ve been experiencing here. I tried to outsmart Mother Nature, to limited success. Witness:

Those tabs are Weddingbee, weather.com, accuweather, NY1 Local Forecast, blogger, and Facebook. As you can see it’s rain, rain, all the days this week, on the NY1 site.

This is my little blue book - full of wedding vendors, to do lists, and inspiration. It has been my constant companion, even through my seasonal purse change.
My dear Aunt sent it to me shortly after my engagement and inscribed the first page with a note and a verse from the Bible.
I am so SO excited about this post! I’ve been thinking about bridesmaid’s dresses for longer than my own wedding dress! I’m not sure why, but there’s something about bridesmaid’s dresses that just tickle my fancy. I’ve decided on J.Crew dresses in the color “light pewter”, aka, light gray. They will also have pink flower or bow accents (either a brooch or belt). I’m also letting my BMs choose the style of the dress. Now the problem is that I’m not sure whether I should decide on one fabric or let it be a free-for-all type of deal. Here are the dresses categorized by material:

As we’re in the midst of picking a caterer and all the madness that comes along with designing a menu within our budget, I wanted to share my idea for dessert. Mr Trail Mix and I decided almost immediately that a big, fancy wedding cake was just not in the cards for us. I love wedding cakes; many of them could be pieces of art, in my mind. BUT… it just didn’t feel like a big ol’ cake fit with our country wedding theme.
And I had another idea turning over in my head. June in upstate New York is strawberry season! Not only that, but strawberry is one of Mr Trail Mix’s all-time favorite flavor. Score!
So we started thinking about cake with strawberries on it, or even strawberry shortcake. Something along the lines of this:

As a wedding present, Mr. HC composed the music for both the wedding party’s processional and the bride’s processional. Try as I might, I just can’t figure out a way to do justice to the music; in fact, I’ve been putting off this post for a very long time because I can’t come up with the words to describe that moment when I heard the first notes from the strings.
Instead of words, then, I present you with this short slideshow. May it bring a bit of joy to your Friday!

Sure, e–photos are pretty and fun, but what about using them to try out vendors/your skills before the wedding? Mr P and I call this “getting the most bang for our buck”. Sure, we were “trying out” our photographer, but we were also trying out an Etsy dress maker, my DIY skills for a hair flower (more on this in an upcoming post!), a makeup artist, and our skills (or lack of) in front of the camera.

E-photos gave me the perfect excuse to order a 1950’s party dress from the Etsy dress maker who is at the top of my list for a custom wedding dress.

Seeking out wedding vendors is a tough, time-consuming task. I looked at ads in local wedding magazines, received referrals from venues, and asked newly married friends. After swimming through a sea of unfamiliar names, I had a bright idea: I’d ask my mom! She always knows what to do!

Mommy and me <3
She thought of some friends and relatives off the top of her head, and I hesitated. “Is it okay to ask them? Won’t they want to relax and enjoy the wedding as normal guests?” She shooed away my concerns, assuring me that they would only say yes if they wanted to.
