A New Twist on the “First Look”

October 1st, 2009 @ 11:54 am by Mrs. Avocado

Want to spend a few minutes with your beloved before the ceremony breathing in each others’ excitement, but do you also want the first time he sees you to be the moment you walk down the aisle?

Consider doing what this couple did and use blindfolds! I don’t know this couple, so this might not be the situation I think it is, but doesn’t it look like they decided to spend some time together before the ceremony without actually seeing each other?

This photo makes me want to cry a bit, it’s so touching!

If you had described something like this to me I would have pictured something really cheesy, but this is fabulous! I just stumbled on Clayton Austin’s work and I’m loving it. Check out this bridal session on his blog; it’s so original! I kind of want to link to all of his sessions, but I won’t. There’s so much inspiration to be found!

I’m always looking for new photographers to inspire me. Have you stumbled on anyone whose work you think the hive might enjoy browsing?

I love this idea! We won’t be doing a first look but I still love the idea of having pictures done before hand. However, me in a blindfold means I’d trip, fall and tear my dress and the blindfold would totally smear makeup all over my face. Those pictures are so beautiful though!!

Wow, that’s a unique idea!

And to answer your question…I gotta give a shout out to a creative photography/videography collective in the Philly area: http://philadelphiatrash.blogspot.com/

I am soooo glad you posted this!! I didn’t want to do the first “look” but I did want to be able to talk to him and spend just a little time with him before walking down the aisle. I think we’re both set on seeing each other for the first time in church. This is an awesome idea!

Beautiful photos! I’d be worried about my eye makeup, but I still think it’s a sweet idea. :)

Hi! Thank you so much for blogging about my work. For the record that was exactly what I had in mind for the couple. The “hands around the door” has been over and over so I really wanted to give them this great experience in a unique way. Honestly, they were some of my favorite shots of the day!

That’s a cute idea! I’d only be interested in doing a first look for the photo opps though (sans blindfolds!) so I wouldn’t do this, but I’d think it were super cute if others did :)

Okay…I might actually be able to convince my FI to do this (he doesn’t want to see me until the aisle). This would be cool. Thanks so much for the idea…that I will now deem the “faux first look” :)

What a unique idea! I love it! I’d even consider just blindfolding my FI while he waits for me to appear, and then take it off of him to unveil the wedding dress glory!
