About Mrs. Parfait

An Unconventional Day

October 1st, 2009 @ 11:05 am by Mrs. Parfait

I have so many ideas for our wedding. Many of them are outlandish. I don’t care. :P

I mentioned Mr. Parfait’s and my ideas for our wedding, but they were pretty accommodating to our families, friends, and, well, reality. If we wanted to go completely nutso crazy, fly everyone from place to place, and purchase apparently fictitious clothing; I would have all of this:

  1. Ceremony on a beach with all 200+ guests. The softest white sand beneath our feet, delicate strands of tropical flowers hanging from the trees, his eyes as blue as the rolling waves.
  2. Reception at Disney World! Dinner and dancing in the castle; Mr. Parfait and I leading a boisterous parade; and all our loved ones together on a carousel! In lieu of cake, we’d eat Mickey Mouse-shaped ice cream bars… I love those chocolate-y ears!
  3. Post-party bonfire. Preferably on a beach or in someone’s huge backyard. We’d have a table with a glorious display of marshmallows, graham crackers, and a million types of chocolate bars. I’d make s’mores all night long for everyone.
  4. I would wear this one white dress that I’ve always wanted, searched for, and compared all other dresses to… since I was 13 years old:

Ahh yes, let’s talk more about the dress. From the moment I saw it onscreen in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet, I loved everything about this dress. It’s so simple, innocent, and cotton-y. More than a decade later, I still love it and think about it whenever I’m shopping for dresses. I own at least five white summer dresses, all purchased because of their similarity to this one. It also doesn’t hurt that the dress caught the eye of this guy:

Aha, the love of my 13-year-old heart. That is, until he made movies that were not Romeo and Juliet, and I was wholeheartedly disappointed that he was not Romeo all the time. Anyway, I also love the halo-like hairstyle and wings she wore with the dress… but to work that, we’d probably need to switch our date to October 31st. :)

Alas, I haven’t found it yet. Mr. Parfait isn’t a fan of the dress (I blame it on the fact that he didn’t see Romeo + Juliet when he was 13), but I might still beg my mother to make it for me. I would definitely wear it to one of our wedding-related events. Perhaps it would work for my bridal shower or post-wedding brunch… or I could use it for my getaway dress!

What crazy daydreams do you have about your wedding?

Ahhhh, the Tuscan DW: Renting a villa and enjoying a long stay there with family and friends, followed by a ceremony (guess for us now it’d have to be a vow renewal!), and then a lengthy Italian vacation with the hubs. :-) Um, yeah, we talked about this dream WHILE we were in Italy! ;-)

That dress is absolutely beautiful and timeless. I mean, 13 years later and it’d still be in style! I think you should definitely talk your mom into making it!

I think all of my daydreams are pretty crazy! I remember my family’s expressions when I mentioned wanting a carnival wedding : )

One of my friends had a barn wedding with a fire pit outside, complete with s’mores. SO. Jealous. We just wandered in and out of the dance party to stand around the fire and toast marshmallows, then went back inside to party it up again. Mr. Spin thought that was the most awesome thing ever.

I wonder if the country club could be persuaded to light a fire for our wedding? ^_^

I love the Leo version of Romeo & Juliet. I had never thought of that dress as a wedding gown - but even if you don’t wear it for the big day it would be great for the rehearsal or honeymoon! My crazy wedding day dreams involve lots and lots of pretty silky flowers all over the ceremony and reception sites. Sigh…

HAha! This post had me cracking up! I was in love with that movie, too. Eh, who am I kidding? I was more in love with Leo than the movie. I hope you find the dress! Maybe someone can make it for you??

I love that you’ve spent the last several years in search of that dress - cute!

Sometimes I dream about what kinds of weddings I would have if I had like, an unlimited budget, no parent guestlists, or if no one cared - I think I could probably come up with like… at least 3 completely different events than the one I’m actually having!
