Miss Dachshund's Picture
Miss Dachshund, Fresno, CA Age and Occupation: 24, Legal Office Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Computer Technician Engagement Date: April 18, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Victorian Gardens of Two Sisters About Me: I’m a 24-year-old Californian bride-to-be who found love in the most unlikely of places - an online video game! I’m a farmer’s daughter living in rural Central California, but will always have a special place in my heart for the city. My future husband is a 27-year-old extraordinarily tall, exceptionally cute, and undoubtedly Canadian boy who was able to sweep me off my feet and take me for his bride. I love color, folksy songs that make me smile, interior design, kettle corn, my one-year-old puppy, Juno, and my fiance, of course! We’re planning a DIY garden wedding with a laundry-list of projects, all while dealing with the bureaucracy that is American Immigration!

Dressing Our Party: The Guys

October 1st, 2009 @ 2:06 pm by Miss Dachshund

A few weeks ago, reader Mrsv2bee posted a link to her photographer’s blog on the boards, which led to absolutely gorgeous pictures of her wedding. Though they were all amazing, one photo of her hubby and his perfectly styled groomsmen caught my eye:

1

Don’t they all look so handsome and modern in their light-colored suits and mismatched sneakers?

I’ve known all along that I don’t want our guys to wear traditional tuxes. I’ve always pictured light gray suits, stylish ties and classic Vans or Converse. Fortunately, Mr. Dachshund is on board with this vision.

Until recently, I hadn’t really put any effort into searching for our ideal groomsman ensemble. I had browsed  Men’s Warehouse’s website, but that was about it. So, in search for inspiration, I turned to Rock ’n Roll Bride, the internet’s mecca for modern (and slightly edgy) bridal parties.

Boy, was I inspired!

(all photos found browsing Rock ’n Roll Bride’s “groom style” tag)

2

I don’t think I want our groomsmen to wear black, but I love the modern fit of these suits.

3

Mr. Doxie doesn’t really like khaki suits, but I love how these are styled. (That’s a pretty impressive beard, don’t you think?)

4

Love, love the vests and colorful skinny ties. I think I’d have added cute socks, though!

5

More skinny ties. Plus, there’s just something about a man in suspenders!

6

LOVE the vintage style suspender clips, shoes… everything, actually. I wonder if they wore jackets at all?

7

How adorable is this groom? I really like these suits. The unique pocket-squares make the look, don’t you think?

8

Aren’t those ties fun? Shutter shades are great for photo-ops, too. :)

9

And last, but certainly not least: V-neck sweaters. I’m not really a bow-tie kinda girl, but I’m really digging the look of the sweaters over dress shirts and gray slacks. I haven’t really seen this combination before in a bridal party, but it’d definitely be more pocket friendly than having each GM buy a suit (they all have to purchase plane tickets, too).

I love that non-traditional styles are so widely accepted now in the wedding world.

What are the men in your bridal party going to wear? Are you going to dress your guys up in suits or go with more traditional tuxedos? Where did you find your inspiration?

I am completely in love with the light colored tuxes - unfortunately my honey isn’t. He’s dead set on wearing a black tux - black vest/tie ensemble. Sigh. I am actually having to rework our whole scheme around them. I LOVE the first picture….

It looks like those pocket squares are actually flowers. What a cool idea! I love the idea of brightly colored ties and socks - so much fun!!

We did light colored suit for my husband and he wore boat shoes. The boys wore white shirts with tan shorts and sandals.

those are some great inspiration pics. guys look great in khaki in the summer… we’ve narrowed our choices to navy, khaki or seersucker suits! Good luck finding the perfect outfit for your fellas!

We just requested that our groomsmen wear a black suit they already owned–one even borrowed a black suit from the Dude! We provided skinny black ties for all. So the groomsmen didn’t have to spend a dime, and they looked great!

FI and I are currently debating this topic. We’re having a beach wedding, so tuxes are out, but he doesn’t even want to wear a jacket. Color is also up for debate as I’d like them to wear tan/khaki and he doesn’t want to. I’m heading over to Rock ‘n Roll Bride now for some inspiration!

Those suspenders are hot. I’d love to see my fiance in that getup. :p

I really liked the idea of gray suits with yellow ties for the guys, but Mr. Spin was dead set against it. Sigh. Oh well.
His good friend is getting married 2 weeks before us and Mr Spin will be wearing a gray suit as a groomsman at that wedding so I suppose it’s all for the best. :) Gray is still unusual enough for nice weddings here in Nebraska that people would have been noting the fact. :P

@Mrs. Mouse: I wonder if we should just tell the GM to wear any gray suit? I don’t think any of them have a suit, to be honest.

My honey and the guys are wearing these bad boys: http://weddings.theknot.com/Wedding-Tuxedos/39187/detailview.aspx?id=39187&type=29&TM=29. Bonus: you can rent them at Men’s Warehouse. It was a great compromise between my FI and I - he wanted a tux and I wanted light suits. These are a bit of both!

My FI and I really wanted to put his guys in suits rather than tuxes, Unfortunately, we were unable to find a locale that rented suits and he didn’t feel comfortable making his groomsmen purchase suits. (some have suits-some don’t) At this point, we wil rent tuxes (probably at Men’s Warehouse) that are more “suit like”. I was informed that they hav those..we shall see.

Showing post to fiance, pronto! He’s a jeans and t-shirt kinda guy … and though I can’t wait to see him in a suit - I just want it to look “natural” if that makes sense … Some of these looks are pretty close to that feel for me!

Our guys are going to be wearing suits. Not all the same, but in the same color family. My girls aren’t matching, why should the guys have to?

I LOVE your inspiration :)
I like gray and brown suits so much! So does the Mr. - so yayyy!! I love suspenders but he said we need to see how they look on him, for the guys I’m 80% sure they don’t own a tux or suit, so I guess if they can’t borrow one I’ll have to do the homework and research for the best prices and hand them the information, yeah they are not into shopping, hehe

My men wore their suit jackets for photos, but just ties and suspenders for the ceremony and most of the photos. I loved the suspender look!

I love guys in suits, I briefly considered sweaters as well but the MIL was way averse to that.
