Mrs. Lamb, Norfolk Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student Engagement Date: January 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
About Mrs. Lamb

Going to the Chapel

October 1st, 2009 @ 11:30 am by Mrs. Lamb

Though I firmly believe that God is present everywhere, and I was quite happy with my thoughts on a small intimate wedding ceremony on the beach, planning our ceremony at our church has quickly becomes one of my favorite aspects of our wedding.

I am one of those poor pathetic girls who has visited churches since I started dating my Ramma-Lamma, and would think to myself, ‘This would be a lovely backdrop for wedding pictures.’ Hello! This is a house of the Lord! Not a prop for my wedding!

I’m glad to say that this church means a lot more to me than my previous shallow thoughts. This church is the church that Mr. L and I first visited together. This church is the church that we decided to go to together. This church is the church where we became members together, had our pre-engagement counseling done, have served in the nursery, and have prepared food for the congregation. This church is full of the “my people” that Ruth talks about in her pledge: “Your people will be my people, and your God, my God.”

I wasn’t able to find many pictures of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Norfolk - the building that houses “my people” :) - but the brick exterior and the ivory columns are indeed going to provide for lovely architectural details in the pictures.

But more so, I’m glad that it’s going to provide us with the spiritual love and support and that we’ll need as the Lambsters become one.

Hehehehehe, become one. That’s another whole post!

Was the ceremony location important to you? Was it for religious reasons? Sentimental reasons? Other?

Oh, definitely! Mr. Bruschetta and I both felt such a connection to the St. Thomas of Villanova Church, since he would come up to visit me almost every week, and we’d often attend the student-led masses there together. Your church is beautiful — but it’s even more important that both you and Mr. Lamb have a special relationship to it. :-)

And, um, here’s a post-script: Those front doors would look lovely with some wreath or other decoration. But it feels wrong to think/write that after reading your post. (Sorry!)

Beautiful! We’re getting married in the (Methodist) church that I was baptized in, confirmed in, my parents were married in, and my parents were 25th-anniversary re-wedded in. I love that we’re being married in a church too! :)

Ours is definitely important. It’s the church my fiance has been going to since he moved to town in 5th grade. It’s such a small little country church, and such a closeknit congregation. We started going together when we first started dating and he says it’s one of his favorite things to do with me. It doesn’t hurt that it’s over 100 years old and absolutely gorgeous!!

it’s a mix of both for me. if we get married here, i’m hoping it’ll be at the church i presently attend. i’ve been a member since 4th grade and have literally grown up among the people there. i honestly can’t imagine NOT getting married there.

I wish I could have that kind of history with the church we’re getting married in! So awesome; and good for you for remembering that the church isn’t just merely a wedding prop. Sadly, I think I kinda went that route in my search… but it all worked out in the end. God always perfectly provides, right?

We’re getting married in a historical chapel. Actually we decided that we wanted to get married there after 5 months of dating (we got engaged after a year and half) because everytime we went to the park where it’s at there was a wedding taking place (one time there were three in one day!) so it kind of does have special meaning to us!

We’re both Catholic but were members at a different churches just miles apart. Since day one we have attended Mass together and we have split our time between the church where he is a member and where i am a member. Ultimately, the strong connection that I have with my Priest was the deciding factor as to where our ceremony would be (not aesthetics). The Priest who is marrying us was very supporting and pastorial when I was having a difficult time years ago and it means so much to have him marry us.

My church is my second home. I can’t imagine my wedding being anywhere else.. I planned my theme and colors around the church (which is a converted, beautiful barn). It is the perfect place for such a holy ceremony… two becoming one.

Trinity is a beautiful church. We did the same thing and chose Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (my Mr. is Catholic) and the second I walked in, I thought, “This is the church we’ll be married in.” It wasn’t my parents’ church, or his parents’ church…it was the church we chose to go to together and found on our own. I love it, and Father Joe is one one of my favorite people :) Congratulations on finding your church home! I hope you feel as lucky as I do

Aww, I wish my church was as beautiful as yours. While I love my church, it’s not a pretty building for a wedding. I think I can keep the sacredness in the ceremony by inviting our pastor and friends to participate and attend, but I dream of having the ceremony outdoors!

I love that you have a place for your wedding that has so much meaning.
Our ceremony will be held in the church where I was baptized, made my 1st communion, got confirmed, attended as a student at the parish school, attended every weekend my whole life (until moving away) and where so many of my memories are founded. It is the bricks & mortar home of my Faith and I am so excited for us to be married there. Since I live so far away now I am really looking forward to making this church a part of the life and shared history FI and I will have together. It is chosen by lots of people in the area for weddings because of its beauty but for me it is about the significant role it has played in my life and my Faith.

I always wanted to be married outdoors, and being able to have the man who was like my “second father” marry us beside the woods was an amazing experience!
