Pearls

October 2nd, 2009 @ 11:34 am by Mrs. Lamb

One of my first thoughts about wedding colors was to incorporate pearl and silver. While not colors per se, I wanted these finishes/metallics to round out the feel.

So far, pearls have been incorporated:

  1. On my dress - after swearing I didn’t want lots of beading, the outer layer of my dress sports little clumps of crystals and pearls.
  2. In the bouts - I found little pearl picks, pearlized flowers, and pearlesque buttons.
  3. On the bridesmaid pomanders - I’ve been attaching the fabric flowers with pearl tipped pins and adding pearlized buttons.

The list will increase as I find other little places to tuck them in.

The most obvious place I’m not incorporating pearls is on my neck.

You’ll see when I unveil my dress story why that is. It does not mean that I’m going to abandon pearl necklaces all together, though. I just bought my first real pearl necklace and earrings set with a portion of my raise. I got an amazing deal on them at Macy’s. We decided to set up our registry and to do that, we had to open a Macy’s card for the cash back option (more on that later). The day we set up the registry also happened to be the day of the Macy’s one day sale.

I’m so proud of my savings, I’ll give you the breakdown:
70% off all Pearl jewelry
+ an extra 10% off for the 1 day sale
+ an extra 20% off for buying with our new Macy’s card
= I paid a little over $100 for over $600 worth of pearls

Oh yeah! It was such a good deal that I almost felt bad about it. But people, it just goes to show that there are some amazing deals in this economy.

I had no idea how to care for my new lovelies. So I turned to my resident preppy homemaker goddess, Christine. Check out her awesome pearl care tips for me here.

All that to say, that I definitely want to wear my pearls, but they’ll probably be making their appearances at the rehearsal dinner or shower or whatnot.

Did you wear pearls on your wedding day? Did you get a deal on yours, or were they heirlooms?

I’m planning on wearing pearls on my wedding day. My “something borrowed” is going to be my mom’s pearl/diamond earrings and my something “new” is hopefully going to be a double or triple strand pearl necklace (much like the one pictured above!)

I never thought of going to Macy’s to get the necklace and now I am going to check it out :o)

Oooo, yes I wore pearls. I bought mine for an amazing deal from http://www.pearlsonly.com and can’t wait to wear them again — I know they’ll remind me of my wedding every time I break out the set. :-)

My fiance gave me his grandmother’s pearls a few years ago for Christmas, unfortunately I haven’t had them restrung yet. I am planning to wear them for our wedding. However, my mother wants me to wear her pearl braclet for my wedding day too…but I think that might be over-doing it. Hmm…

I’m planning on wearing pearls. Either the ones my parents gave me when I was 16 or the ones my deceased aunt gave me. I may go with the ones from my aunt because I believe they were given to her by my grandmother (mom & aunt’s mom). I was touched that she gave them to me, rather than her daughter (who’s 4 months younger than I).

I think, however, that the matching pearl bracelet from my parents came from Macy’s (and mom probably got a deal).

Yes, I want to wear pearls, but I want to have a shocking statement piece. I am thinking three strands with a brooch or something like that.

I also swore that I wouldn’t have beading on my dress… until I found THE DRESS and it was, well, heavily beaded. Oh well! :)

I am considering wearing pearls… not sure yet, though!

Who doesn’t love pearls!

I’m not sure if I’m going to be wearing pearls on my wedding day. The necklace and earrings I already got are pearl free but I’m thinking about wearing the Tiffany pearl bracelet FH got me for my birthday last year! We’ll see

I will probably be wearing pearls on my wedding day and I was thinking about making pearl necklaces and earrings for all my bridesmaids.
I am currently wearing my beautiful pearl earrings that were a gift from my MOH a few years ago. The bad thing is I haven’t taken them out of my ears for about 3-4 weeks. Shame on me! :( I’m going to take them out tonight.

Pearl is my birthstone (yay June!) and I love them so much — they feel so ladylike. My fiance’s first Christmas gift to me was a set of pearl and diamond earrings :) I’ll probably be wearing those unless he gets me another pair as my “something new” (not that I’ve been hinting or anything!). I don’t know about a necklace — the neckline of the gown is so pretty that I think I want it to speak for itself.

I’m not a pearl fan for myself, but I think they look beautiful on others. I do actually like black pearls - maybe I’ll search for some for my day.

I haven’t planned on buying them for myself-I have an eye on a necklace/earring set at Alfred Angelo that goes with my dress style, but me & my mom are thinking my grandma’s going to ask me to wear her pearl necklace from my grandpa that my mom wore on her wedding day.
