Mrs. Frozen Yogurt's Picture
Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

The Send Off

October 2nd, 2009 @ 4:40 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

I’ve been trying really hard to come up with a unique send off that people haven’t seen at weddings before, and I’ve been having a difficult time. I thought about doing dried flowers in a muslin sack, so people can shower us with some fragrant petals as we exit.

But at my cousin’s wedding, she had cutely wrapped birdseed, and people just chucked the whole thing at them rather than opening them up to sprinkle the birdseed. It looked a little painful, and I want to avoid a picture with a petal filled bag smacking my head.

And then I saw these ribbon wands from the Ribbon Wand shop on Etsy.

There’s no messy clean up, and it’s so cute!! I think they would make amazing pictures, too! And best of all, no painful smacks to the head.

What do you think, though? Will the guys actually partake in the send off if it involves wound up ribbon? Or should I not worry about it too much? (Because, let’s be honest—unless it’s fireworks, they probably won’t like it.) :)

If I were a guest, I think I’d swing it joyfully above my head…and then I wouldn’t know what to do with it. But could def. be worth it for the photos and the fun!

I had a friend who gave out kazoos — THAT was a fun send off, especially at the wedding of two music major recent college grads; before you knew it the crowd had formed four part harmony and was going through a repertoire of songs, led by one of the guys calling out cues.

I’m doing ribbon wands. They are cheaper at http://www.haloheaven.com/ someone on the boards recommended that site to me and the ribbons came really fast. I chose the “fall” colored ribbons!

To be honest, I probably wouldn’t know what to do unless a note was included but that is easy enough to include. I LOVE the fact that it’s unique, colourful and would be great for photos!!!

lemme tell ya…..rice hurts! (i know not supposed to use rice cuz the birds and all, but my mom insisted & it was part of our chinese ceremony…. i had no part in it) i got pelted….twice….in the face with the rice and it hurt….plus then it gets in your hair and you have to carefully pick it out….i had rice fallin out even when i undid my hair at the end of the night…..my vote is for something either light or like the ribbons you found

What if you made enough for about 1/2 the people, and who ever got to them first could use those, and everyone else could use bubbles?? You could have a mix of both.

I just love the pictures with some kind of confetti-ish substance. THey’re just classic. Maybe you could think of trying vellum confetti?

We used ribbon sticks at our wedding! Originally, they were just going to be for the kids to play with (we had a lot of young guests) so we decided that to do ribbon sticks in all colors and patterns, not just our wedding colors. We made them with various ribbons from my craft stash and cut dowels from the Home Depot.

But we made enough for everyone and everyone enjoyed them (kids and adults, guys and girls) and lined up to send us off without problem.

Very cute idea. The idea about attaching a note with a quick explanation is a great idea. I think most guys will play along, at least long enough to get some great photos.

the ribbon wands are an adorable idea!! Some boys might not want to do it, but enough other people will so the pictures will still look cute!!! I really really love this idea, I had never seen/heard of this being done before!!
