About Mrs. Cloud

Yeah, I’m STILL Talking About Cake

October 2nd, 2009 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Cloud

Yes, I realize this is starting to get a little bit ridiculous. I went over and over and over what I wanted it to look like, and finally settled on something I love. That should be it, right? Not so much. I blame the fabulous Mrs. Cupcake for this one.

Here I was all settled with my cake decisions, and then I got the flu. Not the swine flu, thankfully—just the regular old can’t-do-anything-but-eat-soup-and-sit-on-the-couch kind. (Ironically, every time I tell someone I had the flu last week, the first question is if it was h1n1, and the second question was if I licked any wedding envelopes. For the record, I didn’t do that, but that is not at all the point to my story.) So, I have the flu, and I’m super bored, chillin’ on my couch. What’s a girl to do other than read back on some of her favorite Weddingbee archives? Well, I have always been a huge fan of Mrs. Cupcake’s wedding and all of her glorious details. I’m not sure how I missed this one the first time, but I saw the following picture again recently and was officially obsessed.

It turns out I missed the whole cake flag revolution all together. Because now that I am actually looking for them, they are everywhere. Off I go to Weddingbee PRO to get more ideas for my perfect little flags, and I fall on to this:

Yeah, I’m STILL Talking About Cake : wedding cake 25 sweet and saucy shop

These are Melody’s from the Sweet and Saucy Shop, and were just what I was looking for! I went with red paper for mine, and wanted white ink (and any excuse to bust out the Gocco, of course). I punched them out with a 1 1/2” circle punch, ran them through the Xyron, and used toothpicks we already had in our pantry. Easy peezy, and the best part was that I had to make brownies to “test” them out in!

I did use Mrs. Cupcake’s “Love is Sweet” since it’s just too perfect, and I couldn’t think of anything better. I considered our monogram for the back, but just went simple with the wedding date. I’m in love, even if they will end up in the trashcan. Oh, and I do find peace in the fact that they match the raspberry filling of the cake, even if I will absolutely be the only one who notices. :)

Were there any DIY projects you fell in love with last minute and had to tack on?

So cute! And rest assured that the hive would have noticed your flag-to-filling match, even if you hadn’t said anything about it ;-)

Aww, that’s adorable! Love that you’re so obsessed with cake, Cloud. If there’s anything to be obsessed about, it’s dessert.

How cute! And I get the question about h1n1, but wow, the second question was “did you lick any envelopes?” Whatever happened to the good old “How are you feeling?” Haha… thank you swine flu for making us more germ-obsessed!

I’ve loved those little flags for a while now. I haven’t found a purpose for them, but you may have given me an idea. :)

so cute! I wish I had the time before the wedding to do something like this too, I was lusting after drink & dessert tags for quite some time!

Haha! People are swine flu obsessed. But it is supposed to be rampant this winter, so watch out, hive! I love your little flags. My theory is that the entire wedding is summed up in the details. People might not remember the exact flag in their dessert, but they will remember that you had so much beautiful attention to detail!

So cute! I love that idea! And so crazy about swine flu. Were you actually tested? I thought the only flu around now was swine. Either way, glad you are all better and back to planning!

Haha. This EXACT same project was my added-on DIY fun. :-) I scored some Martha Stewart flags already on sticks for 97 cents for a pack of 25 at Michaels (hello, clearance!). We stamped the same sentiment on our flags, which is funny to me b/c I hadn’t seen Mrs. Cupcake’s flags - only flags that said “enjoy!” and “bon appetit!” so I thought Love is Sweet was super inventive. Turns out….not. Haha.

I added all kinds of things to my DIY list after stumbling upon WB. The wrap around labels and these flags were the most recent additions…

Your flags turned out GREAT! I love that you took the pic in front of your cookbooks, I have my Weight Watchers cookbook right next to my Cupcake cookbooks too :)
