Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader Engagement Date: March 19, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.

Extensions, Baby

October 5th, 2009 @ 1:20 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

No, not for my hair, but for my eyelashes!! I knew that I was going to do some sort of fake eyelashes for the wedding because I love long lashes and mascara. My natural eyelashes are pretty long, but I always appreciate a little help. I learned about these semi-permanent lashes salons put on that last about 2-3 weeks. Look at some of the befores and afters:

A friend of mine did this for her wedding, and the results were AMAZING. They looked so natural. She was just the girl you were envious of because her eyelashes were so long. She went to get her makeup done at MAC, and even the makeup girl thought they were real! No joke! Since they last 2-3 weeks, if I get them right before the wedding I can have them for our honeymoon, too. This means I can sit poolside and not feel naked without my mascara. I’m thinking about trying this in a couple months to make sure that I won’t have some crazy allergic reaction to them, but I can’t wait!

Has anyone tried this? What are some tips you have for me?

i haven’t done this before, but I’m considering it. The other thing that I’ve done that’s been great is getting my lashes tinted. I’ve done it a few times, and the results have been great.

My mom’s hair stylist has been treating her as a guinea pig for eyelash extensions these past few months. The first time, she had the whole eyelash strip an she hated it. The glue was a black, black goopy line that looked like she had on way too much eyeliner. They lasted for nearly a month when they started to peel up on the sides… she was scared they were going to rip her eyelashes out! They looked pretty ridic.

On her last trip to the salon, they gave her the individual eyelash extensions and they look great. They’re a little long for everyday wear, imo, but they would look great for a special occasion! They’ve lasted her about three weeks now… they’re still on, but they’re starting to go every-which-way.

They’ll look great on you! I was considering getting them put on this week for my upcoming engagement party, but I haven’t made up my mind yet : )

According to Mrs. SB, she says here not to do it: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/lash-extensions#post-121608

And here’s her story: http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/09/26/fakin-it-bambi-style/

I really wanted them too, but both my best friend who had them repeatedly for 6 months AND the awesome girl who waxes me (at the same salon where I would have gotten the extensions!) told me NOT to do it. They said that when the falsies eventually fall out, they take your real lashes with it! Also, wearing waterproof mascara is not allowed - you may want to consider that if you think you’ll get teary during the wedding …

I had eyelash extensions done last January - a a week or so before our engagement photo session. The application process takes a while and unfortunately I’m one of those suckers that paid $300+ for them. I loved how they loved the first night when I woke up the next morning my eyelids were red, itchy and starting to swell. It proceeded to get worse through the week leading up to our photo session. Thankfully, Benadril helped with the reaction a little bit so I was able to make it through the photos with half the eyelashes still on and minimal redness and swelling. Removed the remaining lashes immediately after we were finished shooting.
I’m probably the unusual case to have such a violent reaction. But, if you are going to try it, do it well before your wedding just in case.
I was so incredibly disappointed and frustrated. So it’s back to mascara for me (I’m also a blue eyed blond so you can see my lashes without enhancement).

I love the look of them, but please please please do a trial run using the exact glue and everything you would use for your wedding! An allergic reaction is the last thing you need!

mine were wonderful, and lookd totally natural! When they came off, they didnt take my natural lashes with them. some fell out with the natural lashes, but nothing more than what was typical. Id definitely try it in advance to be sure though.

One of my BMs is a Broadway actress. She gets the really heavy ones put on every 2 weeks during performances, and has never had an issue. Swears by them. I love them!

Allergies are always an individual thing; my cousin did these - they lasted forever and looked SOOOO good. I’m totally going to be getting some of these bad boys!

Thanks for all the advice!! I need to get my hair highlighted soon (it’s bad), and my hair girl has been talking about these eyelashes for ages, so now I’ll actually talk to the eyelash girl when I go. I’ll be sure to take plenty of before and after photos too!

I saw a post about this maybe a month ago and thought the idea was great! I want to look and see if there’s any place near me that will do it.

I don’t mean to sound like an infomercial, but I would recommend Latisse. It’s that prescription lash growing stuff that you put on everynight and it makes them grow longer and thicker. There are side effects, like if you have blue eyes, they might turn brown, but the benefits were awesome (I am asian and have straight lashes - they now curl by themselves). I saw a difference in a couple weeks! It is kind of pricey, at $100/month (1 bottle), but I have noticed that my bottle actually lasts me closer to 3 months.

My makeup artist does them (reasonable price too) and I haven’t decided yet. She said that if you sleep on your stomach they don’t last as long… I toss and turn… I love false lashes too and know that at the very least I’ll have some fasle ones added day of.

They do look a lot more natural than fake lashes… but I’m afraid it would bother my eyes. I like that I can just pull of my lashes at the end of the night…
