Hide and Seek: With Lights

October 5th, 2009 @ 11:07 am by Mrs. Parfait

Mr. Parfait and I are fans of the uplight. We’re such big fans that we’re thinking about buying, not renting, them for the wedding and reusing them for our future home! We’re gonna need a pretty classy home for these babies. ;) I tried to find examples of uplighting without fabric draping, so we can see how it looks against bare walls. These examples highlight beautiful architecture, but they also do the job we need them for: drawing attention away from the dark areas of the room.

Mr. Parfait and I chose a new color palette: pink, yellow, and orange! I tried to find examples in these shades. My least favorite, as I anticipated, is orange. No matter how pretty the place and decor, it still reminds me of Halloween. This might not be appropriate for April.

The above pictures are from Details Details. The picture below is from Love and Splendor. We already took blue out of our colors, but we both agree that it looks amazing in every example we’ve seen so far:

The blue room looks slick, but my favorite is the top picture. The soft pink isn’t overwhelming, and it looks the most romantic! I’ll have to ask Mr. Parfait to choose his favorite. What’s yours?

The pinks look awesome! I’m drawn to purple (which we used for part of our reception space) and (surprisingly…) orange, which we turned on as the sun was setting — and it looked beautiful in combination with mother nature’s own hues!

this is something i need to figure out too…i love uplighting.

i agree the pink is lovely. have you guys thought about having the uplighting color transition to other colors as the night progresses? the lighting company we are working with was talking to us about that.

I heart uplighting I am having it done for my wedding. So much drama (and I love drama!)

I love, love, love the pink uplighting (but I’m biased, because it’s my favorite color). So pretty!

Uplighting is so dramatic & takes your event to a whole new level. I would go with the first one- the soft pink! It looks so romantic :)

I prefer the pink or the orange–they’re both warm and inviting. The blues and purples are pretty, but they seem a bit cold.

Not going to lie, I love the uplighting in the pink with everyone else, but I also LOVE the dramatic purple one with the dangling crystals and candles. That’s absolutely stunning.

I love that blue room. It’s a little intense for wedding land, so it’d take a good set of huevos to pull it off. :p

@Mrs. Bruschetta & tea: Now you’ve got me thinking about a warm, sunset-like orange glow. Hmm…

@Bellini: That’s a great idea! I would love soft, warm colors at the beginning of the reception, and then dramatic uplights as the night goes on.

@KMSull: I totally agree–I would want to recreate that whole scene!
