Mrs. Dachshund's Picture
Mrs. Dachshund, Fresno, CA Age and Occupation: 24, Legal Office Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Computer Technician Engagement Date: April 18, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Victorian Gardens of Two Sisters About Me: I’m a 24-year-old Californian bride-to-be who found love in the most unlikely of places - an online video game! I’m a farmer’s daughter living in rural Central California, but will always have a special place in my heart for the city. My future husband is a 27-year-old extraordinarily tall, exceptionally cute, and undoubtedly Canadian boy who was able to sweep me off my feet and take me for his bride. I love color, folksy songs that make me smile, interior design, kettle corn, my one-year-old puppy, Juno, and my fiance, of course! We’re planning a DIY garden wedding with a laundry-list of projects, all while dealing with the bureaucracy that is American Immigration!
About Mrs. Dachshund

I didn’t have a traditional proposal. I wasn’t surprised with a ring and Mr. Dachshund never went down on one knee. Really, our engagement began with the decision to finally start our fiance visa paperwork.

To be honest, I’m alright with that. In fact, because we did it that way, I was able to choose my own engagement ring. I love Mr. D with all of my heart and I’m sure he would have chosen a lovely ring, but I am quite particular when it comes to the jewelry that I wear. So, a few weeks after Mr. Doxie and I made it official, I chose my engagement ring online. It was shipped directly to me, and I had it for about a month before Mr. D saw it in person. It is absolutely my dream ring and it was well within our (very small) budget. It’s been on my finger for a little over two months now and I still can’t help but stare at it.

A few days ago I finally tried to take a few pictures of it that weren’t blurry and out of focus. Eventually I’d like to get a DSLR, but for now I’m stuck with a little Casio point-and-shoot. I think the pictures came out pretty decently, though!

When imagining my engagement ring, I always dreamed that it would have timeless, vintage details. The carving on the side of the ring was what won me over!

Of course, the side-stones and beading added to my attraction!

I am absolutely in love with my engagement ring! Even now, after it has been on my finger for six months, I still catch myself sneaking peeks at it throughout the day! Even though I picked it out, it still reminds me of Mr. Dachshund.

For the record, Mr. D did eventually propose. One night during his last visit, he and I were sitting on the porch steps while my puppy (Mini D) was taking her time searching for the perfect spot to potty. We were ready for bed, tired from our day full of activities and impatiently waiting for Juno to poop. She takes forever! Mr. D was wearing only his boxers as he recited his cute little spiel that he had practiced. I laughed, and I think I told him I wanted a do-over when he was fully dressed and when there wasn’t fresh puppy poop a few feet away. :) I joked, but I really wouldn’t have had it any other way. Sure, I already had the ring on my finger, but his proposal was very endearing and very us.

So, what about all of you? What came first, the proposal or the ring? Did your guy choose your ring, or did you get to pick out your own?

I love the orange flower against your ring! What a beautiful setting :) I have to admit my future hubby’s proposal wasn’t a surprise either. Like you, I picked out my ring and he asked me one evening at home next to our little doxie!

@RL33: We actually used Moissaniteco.com

I did a lot of research before we decided to go with a moissanite, but I’m glad we did… I love my ring : )

We picked out the ring together and got it sized but I didn’t know when I would get it. he proposed with all his family around on a Sunday. We had just cleared the table from dinner and I looked over and he was on one knee! LOL…His mom took pictures and the only thing wrong was the butter stick from dinner in front of me! LOL..

I love your ring, and it does have that vintage look with all the etching (it actually looks a bit like my vintage setting). And I think the fact that he’d practiced his speech is too sweet!

So pretty! I love the detailed band!

I picked out a handful of e-rings & he chose the one he liked best. And then he made me wait what seemed like an eternity before he gave it to me.

Well, neither for us. I’ll get a ring and he’ll propose, but we just kind of started talking about it one day and decided it’s what we wanted to do. We haven’t been together a year, yet, so we’re going to wait a few more months before we get engaged for real to appease our parents!

He has kind of proposed already but we didn’t have a ring yet we shopped for it last week and will pick it up on Saturday. I still want a proposal with the ring so I don’t plan to wear it until he give it to me.

Pretty! My guy picked out my ring a few weeks before & he had it in hand when he proposed! None of my pictures turned out as good as yours did though!

I absolutely love your ring. Just enough bling with wonderful details. Also, I have had mine for 10 months and I still stare at it all the time! I am not sure that ever goes away.

You did a FANTASTIC job with the pics! Love the orange flowers and love the carvings on the side. It’s beautiful! (And I don’t throw that word around easily) Cute story. :)

The mister picked out the ring and proposed, all as a surprise! (Though we’ve had “the future” talks before… so it wasn’t TOTALLY out of the blue but I had no idea when or where.) :)
